Baby Products Reviews of My Brest Friend Pillow, Sunburst

Customer Review: Take to the hospital with you!!
Summary: 5 Stars

This pillow provides great support for breastfeeding an infant/newborn.

Take it to the Hospital:
If you plan on breastfeeding, get this and take it to the hospital with you because it will help hold your child at close to the right level so you can work on getting you little one to latch correctly and letting down without killing your back and arms. Its easy to take a break and lay them down on the pillow and then try nursing again.

Durability:
This is our second "breast-friend" (kinda silly name), we just call it a nursing pillow. The first one made it through our first child, and was loaned out to another mother, and we used it for our second. However, our toddler broke it!! We ordered another one, and I was able to fix the old one with some coat hangers (shaped and pushed into the foam) and duct tape. Now our toddler uses it to nurse her animals!!!

Boppy: We also have a boppy, but it really does a completely different thing and we have not found it very useful for breastfeeding, tho its very useful for other things (sitting the baby in).

Breastfeeding: Its hard, but you can do it...its all confidence so get your husband/partner involved for mental support!

Customer Review: Helpful to position your baby if you're willing to take other health risks...
Summary: 2 Stars

I'll give this 2 stars because it helped to position the baby, but propping up a couple of big pillows does the same. My main concern was that this pillow had a really strong odor when I opened the contents and immediately I realized I made a mistake in my purchase after getting just about everything else made out of organic materials. Polyurethane Foam and in China. I'm taking it outside to see if it ever airs out, but sadly it will probably end up in a landfill where it will never decompose. So much for trying to be all natural and organic.

"Some of the health hazards listed on manufacturer material safety data sheets (MSDS) for polyurethane foam include: possible cardiac arrhythmias, breathlessness, chest discomfort, irritation of mucous membranes, headache, coughing, asthma-like allergic reaction, dizziness, weakness, fatigue, nausea, blurred vision, and reduced pulmonary function.

The EPA has identified several chemicals used in the fabrication of polyurethane foam as hazardous air pollutants (hydrochloric acid, 2,4-toluene diisocyanate, and hydrogen cyanide)."

Customer Review: Hate the name, love the product!
Summary: 5 Stars

I really, really hate puns, so I resisted buying My Brest Friend... But I have to admit, it's a GREAT product. It's definitely much better than the Boppy. A few advantages:
- You can strap it on and then get your baby. With the Boppy, trying to get the baby comfy and get the pillow in a useful position really takes two people.
- You can leave it on and just let your baby sleep once he/she is done nursing.
- You can multi-task, and even walk around with the thing (keeping at least one hand on your baby!)
- The pocket on the end is actually quite useful. I keep a burp cloth and sometimes my phone or tv remote there.
I've found it especially nice while traveling. It makes breastfeeding in the car or out and about much, much easier. One note, though: there are two types of covers, one with velcro, one without. Personally, I prefer the one without. The one with the velcro sometimes scratches my side with the velcro part.

Customer Review: Very useful, kind of big when it comes to storage
Summary: 5 Stars

It was very useful during the first few months of breastfeeding. Very comfortable both for me and for my baby. It helped to relieve a lot of stress from the back. You CAN buckle the pillow on with one hand, just have to sit down first on a chair (baby in the other arm), swing the back of the pillow behind your back, then use that same arm to buckle it on your right side. Takes a bit of effort but it is possible.

Now I am going back to work so I pumped most of the time and am not using the pillow as often as before. When it comes to storage it is pretty big. But one of the reason why the Brest Friend is better than boppy is because of it's bigger size and the more solid filling, so I'm not complaining. Just make sure you don't throw away the plastic bag/cover that comes with it coz you will need it again when you come to storing it. Otherwise I can't say anything bad about this product. Buy it!

Customer Review: Better than Boppy, easy to clean, use it standing up!
Summary: 5 Stars

The removable cover (zipper) makes this easy to clean (just make sure the velcro is stuck to itself when you wash it or it will stick to all your nice socks.

My wife tried a boppy for the first month then got this, which she used continually for the next year.

You can even use it standing up or when you move around since the strap goes around your back. The strap also provides back & lumbar support. The pocket is a nice touch (you put your Lansinoh, cell phone, baby nail clippers, etc in it) The only possible downside is it isn't that easy to put on with one hand (for example, if you are already cradling the baby)

If you're price sensitive look around, there are often significant discounts for older colors.
