Baby Products Reviews of My Brest Friend Deluxe Pillow, Light GreenCustomer Review: Wonderful nursing pillow -- invaluable! Summary: 5 Stars
I am so glad I found out about My Brest Friend via navigating through Amazon.com. I got the Boppy first, and it is too soft to support my baby for nursing; it also constantly slips away from me, and my baby tends to slip between me and the Boppy. For these reasons, my back felt strained when I used the Boppy for nursing. Then, I bought "My Brest Friend" and it worked great -- all the problems that I just mentioned were solved -- it's firm and supportive, and it also "locks" around my waist so it won't slip. It wasn't perfect though; I still needed to use a small pillow or stuff a blanket between the MBF and my arm when my baby was less than 1 month old, but it was alot better than the Boppy. Now that my baby is more than 2 months old, I don't really need to use this pillow anymore for nursing, but i still use it to support his weight when I carry him around the house since he is quite heavy for my arm and back. The Boppy is NOT the ideal pillow for nursing, but it is good for letting my baby lie on to rest/sleep and as a support pillow for burping my baby in a sitting position, so I still recommend having a Boppy.
Customer Review: Very comfortable, but cumbersome to put on Summary: 4 Stars
I used this for my baby's first month or so, while we were still getting the hang of breastfeeding. It was very comfortable and gave great support. I then stopped using it because I found it too awkward and time-consuming to put on and take off, especially while trying to hold the baby in one hand while he is wriggling and screaming for a meal. At those times, I wished I had a Boppy that I could just shove around my waist in a hurry.
My 7-year old daughter uses it to help her support the baby when she wants to hold him. It works GREAT for that, she can hold him without having to support all his weight with her arms.
PROS: It is very comfortable to wear and supported both me and the baby very well. This is a quality product, very sturdy and well-made. The cover zips off for washing.
CONS: It can be difficult to get the pillow around you and fastened when you are holding a baby in one hand. When your baby starts learning to sit up and you want something to support him on the floor, the Boppy works, but My Brest Friend doesn't.
Customer Review: A luxury item Summary: 4 Stars
In general I'm glad that I own this product, but I am sure that I would be fine without it; it's a luxury item.
I bought the Brest Friend for breastfeeding my first baby. After trying it out on the first day home from the hospital, I thought I'd surely not use it because it was very awkward to use it while sitting in my glider and very difficult to use with any other hold but the cradling hold; the "football" hold was the easiest for me when I first trying to breastfeed and this hold was so clumsy using the Brest Friend that I just used my own bed pillows.
After 3 weeks of breastfeeding, though, I gave the Brest Friend another try and it turned out to be very convenient! I could now type at a keyboard, use a mouse, operate a remote control, even eat a sandwich while breastfeeding with the Brest Friend! It is, however, still awkward to get clipped on when holding a hungry, fussy baby :-/
If you have the $ for such a luxury item, it's nice to have around, but pillows work nearly as well ;-)
Customer Review: Not good post- Csection, but useful later for daytime nursing Summary: 3 Stars
Based on the stellar reviews this product had, and because I'm tall, I purchased the Brest Friend instead of a Boppy. However, after my (unplanned) C-section I found this pillow impossible to use. It was too firm and pushed uncomfortably on my sore abdomen, and with my limited mobility it was difficult to get the strap around me (and painful to clasp). A few days post-partum, I had the opportunity to try a Boppy, and then rushed out and bought my own, and used that exclusively until I healed up.
Once I was more mobile, I found the Brest Friend useful for daytime nursing-- I liked that I could sit more upright than with the Boppy, which saved my back. However, in the middle of the night, I went back to the boppy because it was just way easier to wrangle in the dark. Also, the Boppy was handy later on for tummy time and when she was learning to sit up.
So, I found both nursing pillows had their uses, and don't regret having both. But to be honest, if I had to choose only 1, I'd go with the Boppy.
Customer Review: 10X Better than Boppy, easy to clean, use it standing up! Summary: 5 Stars
The removable cover (zipper) makes this easy to clean (just make sure the velcro is stuck to itself when you wash it or it will stick to all your nice socks.)
My wife tried a boppy for the first month then got this, which she used continually for the next year. She has used it for all 3 of our children. The Boppy my sister loaned us was pretty flat after she used it for only one child.
You can even use it standing up or when you move around since the strap goes around your back. The strap also provides back & lumbar support. The pocket is a nice touch (you put your Lansinoh, cell phone, baby nail clippers, etc in it) The only possible downside is it isn't that easy to put on with one hand (for example, if you are already cradling the baby)
If you're price sensitive look around, there are often significant discounts for older colors.
