Baby Products Reviews of My Brest Friend Deluxe Pillow, Light Green

Customer Review: Definitely my BREST friend!!
Summary: 5 Stars

My DS is now almost 6 months old and I can tell you, I could not live without this thing the first 4 months of his life!! I took it everywhere - to my parents', my in-laws, I even took it to friends' homes if I was visiting. It puts the baby in the perfect position and is very comfortable to wear. It is adjustable, so from the moment I brought DS home to 4 months later when my body had gotten progressively smaller, the fit was never a problem.

It has a small pouch pocket in the front, in which I kept a small tube of nipple cream and a small washcloth for dribbles. Once DS got bigger, he started to outgrow it (weight-wise), but even now I still use it for night feedings. He falls asleep on and if I didn't move around so much, he would sleep there all night long!

The cover is removable and can be washed, which it does fine, as long as you make sure the velcro doesn't get caught on any other laundry and tear stitching or something else. I suggest washing it on its own.

It is a bit more cumbersome than the Boppy since you really need to clasp it together for it to stay in position. When you have a hungry baby, sometimes that short amount of time to do the clasp can seem like an eternity! But that is a small inconvenience. I actually have one of each - the Boppy for one room and the MBF for the nursery.

I highly recommend this anyway. I love it!!

Customer Review: The best breastfeeding pillow!!!
Summary: 5 Stars

I did not purchase this on Amazon, because I needed it the same day, however I wanted to share my thoughts...

This is the best breastfeeding pillow ever. I am not sure why boppy is still in business, but it seems they are the name you think of when you talking about breastfeeding. If you already have a boppy put it away until you baby has some head control and use it as a chair. Now immediately purchase this pillow. Why I LOVE this pillow:

- It clips on, so you have a tray. You can flip it to the back to go and change a diaper.
- It is firm. It is hard enough to maneuver a floppy baby, you don't want to try and position them on floppy squishy pillows.
- It has bumps about even with your breast for the baby to rest their head on.
- The pocket in the front is nice to put a remote in or anything you may want once sitting down to feed.
- The cover is nice and soft (although I wish we could buy the vinyl cover, because it does tend to get dirty quickly with spit ups and diaper blow outs. Only Lactation consultants can buy the vinyl cover)

Believe it or not, this pillow kept me from giving up on breastfeeding. Fighting with floppy pillows and mid feeding diaper changes with no sleep was enough to test anyone's patience.

Customer Review: Nice concept but some design flaws
Summary: 3 Stars

I asked and received this as an item from my baby registry. My newborn is now just over 2 weeks old and while I'm able to use the pillow and it's working OK, there are some major design flaws with it.

1)For a postpartum belly this has to be on one of the more open settings. This means the back support becomes more of a left arm support and is not as secure. All the models on the website for this product show very thin and trim (ie not recently pregnant) people so I don't know quite what they were thinking here.

2) The strip of Velcro that is used to adjust the pillow is right up against either your clothes or skin and it's the "hook" side (ie the scratchy/rough side). I have to throw a cloth diaper over it to keep from irritating my skin and snagging my clothes.

3)This works much, much better for the left side than the right. The right side has the closure and Velcro adjuster on it and thereby missing needed support on that side. Especially when using this on a more open setting (for a larger waist in general or postpartum) there is no right arm support. I have to twist the pillow to the right to get enough support to feed on the right side and this is somewhat awkward and not as comfortable as it should be.

Customer Review: Excellent product for Breastfeeding moms
Summary: 5 Stars

I have both Boppy and My Breast Friend, and I love both for different reasons. Boppy of course is great for tummy time and reclining the baby (she can't sit up yet, only 9 weeks old). I keep the Boppy in her room and I use it to feed her when I'm sitting in her rocking chair, because the arms of the chair hold the Boppy perfectly in place for me. My Breast Friend is great exclusively for feeding, but I have more freedom with it than with Boppy. MBF is large enough to hold baby in place even when I walk around the house (I still have to hold the bottom of the pillow of course to support her weight and for safety). So I can use it in living room, get up and walk to the bedroom, sit in front of computer, etc. The relief on my back was wonderful after the first week of horrible neck and back pain. Pocket is great for cell phone, and I love that it's adjustable to any waist size, and doesn't lose its shape like the Boppy can. Snapping it on can be a little cumbersome, you do need two hands. Usually if I'm holding the baby, my husband will hook it on for me, he laughs because he thinks it's funny-looking but agrees it is the MOST comfortable thing to wear while holding baby, because it practically holds her for you!

Customer Review: Don't believe the hype
Summary: 1 Stars

I, too, bought this at the recommendation of the lactation consultant I met during my hospital tour, and it was essentially worthless to me. It was too painful to use after my unplanned c-section, and once I started using the Boppy pillow to nurse, I never was able to get excited about the My Brest Friend- to many moving part to get situation for nursing. I read one review that said that the Boppy was "not made for nursing." Come on! From the way some "experts" talk about the importance of proper positioning babies for nursing, you might wonder how poor women in third world countries manage to nurse their babies- the pillows are not necessary, but they are nice to have, and selling them as more than that is really disingenuous. I think lactation consultants can be great, but there are a disappointing number of them that I and my friends have run across who create more stress for new mothers than they solve by having so many rigid rules- if it works, and the baby is getting milk, and you're both comfortable, isn't that enough? For the money, comfort, and convenience, I'd say take the Boppy over the MBF any day- and don't let the nursing snobs out there talk you into something you don't want.
