Anyone familiar with the book and/or DVD "The Happiest Baby on the Block" knows the value of white noise or womb sounds for an infant. Well, we learned quickly that one of the best ways to calm our little one was with the vacuum cleaner. Since we couldn't afford the electric bill if we used it every single time she was fussy and wouldn't go down, I looked into purchasing a white noise machine. This was very affordable, and I liked the sound-activation and light features with this.
We use it as soon as we put her down in her crib every night, whether she's fast asleep or half-asleep. It works very nicely. Of course, we have to do some of the other techniques described in "Happiest Baby" first, like swaddling and swinging to calm her down enough to respond to the crib light and sounds. During the night, it's great on voice-activation to calm her so we don't have to get out of bed if she wakes herself up and doesn't need to be changed or fed. After feedings, though, it's great to put her down to and she's usually asleep within minutes. There's enough light so I don't have to turn on the lights in the nursery to put her down.
One of the reasons I got it was we have musical toys that also put her to sleep, but since we have a child monitor, I got really sick of hearing the same songs over and over again as my husband and I were going to sleep. At least hearing the white noise over the monitor is easy enough to tune out, and also doesn't drown out her crying when she needs us.

I don't use that description loosely here, this crib light has rescued our sleep and sanity a few times a week since we bought it. Each time our daughter (10 months old) wakes up and is put back down by the crib light, we breathe a sigh of relief and say "sooo worth the money!".
It is a simple product, with switches that you can easily find even fumbling in the dark with a baby in your arm. It is safe - it attaches firmly to the side of the crib. The lights are soft and soothing, but just bright enough to see the baby. The sound is just like the sound of mom's heartbeat that you hear in an ultrasound. That sounded gimmicky to us at first, but it really works. The sound stops after about 10 minutes - plenty of time for her to drift back off to sleep.
The only con I can think of with this crib light is that, by design, it stays on while in voice activation mode and drains batteries a little. It isn't "idiot proof". You have to remember to turn it off when not being used. We kept forgetting to turn it off and it drained the batteries in about a month. If you remember to turn it off, they will last much longer.
Overall, I highly recommend this product for any new parent trying to help their baby sleep through the night.

I bought this product despite several reviews that said it did not work well. I have twin boys that are 4 months old who loves lights and sounds. I thought this product would be a great addition to several other crib toys I have for them. Since we do have twins, I am quite picky on what I buy for them. I choose toys that I think both boys will enjoy as buying two of everything can get expensive. I had this product added to my wish list for a long time in the hopes of one day purchasing it. When I finally got around to ordering the product, I could not wait to receive it and see if my twins enjoyed it. Once it arrived my husband and I put brand new batteries in the product and to our suprise it did not work at all!!! We tried other batteries thinking it just may be the batteries and it still did not work. We even went as far as having family members trying to get it to worth thinking maybe we were simply overly tired parents. I wish I could say better things about this product as the description was exactly what I was looking for in a crib toy. Not only didn't it work well, but in our case it didn't work at all!!! I will be returning the product in the hopes of having my money refunded.Customer Review: Great idea, so-so execution

This would be more helpful if it was a bit more sensitive to sound. By the time it would go off, my daughter would be in a full-on roar, far past the point of calming her down.
It did however help her to fall asleep sometimes.
By the time she was 3 months old it had outlived its usefulness though, so the window in which you have to use it is dreadfully short.
Not a horrible purchase, but not extremely useful either. I would probably pass on this if I had known what I know now.
EDIT: I now have a 5 day old son who responds to this much better than my daughter did. I think that using it right away after they are born may help them to become receptive to it. It calms him down much better than it did for my daughter, who didn't start using this until she was around 3 weeks old. Perhaps that was too long of a period out of the womb for this to have the intended affect.
I've raised my original rating from 2 stars to 3, as it seems possible to me that the success of this product may be somewhat dependent on how quickly you acclimatize your newborn to it.

I ordered this light for my cousin's baby shower and put batteries in it as soon as I received it and it exceeds my expectations completely! The light changes one color to the next, going through the whole rainbow of colors. The sound is awesome and I am sure it will make her baby feel at home when he is born. The straps will attach really securely to the crib and not allow for it to be knocked off by accident (which was a worry) and it is extremely light. It only takes 4 AA's. The best thing though is that it ignores background noise, which is awesome because my cousin has twelve dogs ;c). I cannot wait to give it to my cousin Sunday, I know she will absolutely love it and I know that she'll let me borrow it when I finally get around to getting pregnant. lol. It really is awesome and I highly recommend it, especially for the price! Great gift for new mommies!
