Baby Products Reviews of Munchkin Mozart Magic CubeCustomer Review: good toy Summary: 4 Stars
My daughter got this toy before she could crawl. She liked the colored lights and to watch us make it play music. Eventually she learned to turn it on by kicking her feet. Later she banged on it and was fascinated when she could make it play. Now she has mastered it and likes to push it around the floor. You are going to be disappointed if you are expecting your child to learn anything about music from this toy, but it has been great to watch how her play with this toy progressed as our baby's motor and cognitive skills develop.
It's been very sturdy. At first it made some weird sounds, but that went away. The music is OK, but we didn't get the toy for our enjoyment. It's fine for baby. The only negative -we had the same trouble other reviews have mentioned with getting that crazy wire out of the toy. It took lots of tugging with pliers!
Customer Review: Yes, there IS a design flaw - the kids LOVE the toy though Summary: 5 Stars
Aha! It wasn't just us! It was interesting to see that we weren't the only ones who had the battery cover break - it's weak right there where the batteries are pushing against it. We got a replacement battery cover for free, too, but guess what - It's breaking again!! I'm upset about that because the kids really love it a lot but I need to call for a replacement piece again...here's some advice, if you get the toy, call Munchkin right away and request a couple (or more) covers, because chances are extremely good that it will break there, and more than once! I tried superglue but that doesn't work. I do agree with the reviewer who said the violin sounds flat, but I don't think it's that bad. All 3 of my boys (ages 1, 3, & 8) enjoy it a lot, but it's put away right now because when that cover breaks, it's sharp - be careful!!
Customer Review: My sons favorite toy Summary: 5 Stars
I bought this for my 8 month old son. From 8 months to 18 months, this was by far his favorite toy. He would spend hours playing with it and was one of the few toys he didn't get bored of. He would press the buttons, hug the cube and yes, occaisonally he would throw it down the steps, because it makes noise when bouncing from step to step. When he finally managed to destroy the first one I quickly purchased a second to replace it.
One of the best toy purchase I have made for him. The music is not the greatest and does have a tinny ring to it. This is not something that I would listen to or enjoy, but then again the toy is for my son and not for me. If you need concert quality sound then an iPod stuck to 4 Bose speakers may be the way to go for you. If you want a toy which keeps your kid happy, this toy will be hard to beat.
Customer Review: gotta have his tunes Summary: 5 Stars
My year-old son received this as a shower gift and started playing with it seriously at about 7 months. I immediately loved it because it played "real" music, not just rinky-dinky, artificial-sounding nursery tunes. Now, at a year, he keeps it close by while he looks at his picture books. He hits a button, "reads" while the music plays, and then, without looking, reaches out and hits the cube whenever the music stops. If I turn its switch to "off," he lets me know about it! He hasn't yet experimented with the combinations of instruments, but he's so attached to the toy, I'm sure it will be of interest to him for a long time to come. After 5 months of daily play, the original battery is going strong, and he often stands on it with no ill effects. An almost perfect toy. Give one to every baby you know!
Customer Review: Disappointed Summary: 3 Stars
The reviews certainly led me to expect a better quality sound than what I got with this toy. The box the Magic Cube comes in says, "Orchestral Quality Sound", but the sound is nothing like orchestral quality. It sounds like it was made with a cheap synthesizer. Why couldn't they record real instruments? The violin is terribly flat, the french horn is off-key at times, and the piano hits a couple of sour notes in one of the pieces. The flute sounds just like a cheap toy organ - not much like a flute. When the instruments play together, the sound is not pretty. To top it all off, the volume is set too high and can't be changed. After buying this, I discovered that kbtoys.com sells this toy at a considerably lower price than Amazon.com. I felt like I had wasted my money, so I returned the toy.
