Baby Products Reviews of Munchkin Mozart Magic CubeCustomer Review: My kids love it Summary: 5 Stars
The cube contains six classic Mozart tunes that can be heard via 5 individual, or combination of, instruments including a concert mode which plays them all. Your child can manipulate the ensemble while the music is playing. My 18 month boy loves it and is always fiddling with the different types of musical play. Somehow (despite such a young age)he was able to intuitivly master the cube use rendering my first impression (that this toy is more appropraite for older children) wrong.
When the music is playing to his desire he spontaneously starts waving and clapping his hands. I have no proof but based on my observation I feel this toy enhances his appreciation of music as well as his ability to understand basic music composition.
My four year old loves it too so the biggest challenge is getting them to share it.
What is best about the cube is that it is designed for the toddlers. Like any child my son loves to throw the cube too, fortunately it is designed with soft rubber corners/edges so no damage is done as the cube is flung across our hardwood floor.
In short great gift to stimiulate musical interest and appreciation in the little ones.
Customer Review: My daughter's favorite toy!!! Summary: 5 Stars
We received this gift as a hand-me-down from another family. I am now buying it for my 8 month old nephew for Christmas because my daughter (turning 1 next week) loves it so much. My daughter has been enjoying it and playing with it since about 8 or 9 months. She loves hitting the buttons. She gets a big smile on her face and looks at either Mommy or Daddy to share in her excitement (she doesn't do this with any of her other toys). Her expression says, "Look, Mommy, I'm creating music!" We definitely want to encourage musical interest in her and I think this cube is the perfect first "instrument." One nice thing about this toy is that it doesn't require a lot of coordination to get the music going. She will often accidentally hit a button when she is playing with something else or just turning the cube over. Consequently, I disagree with the writer below that said the gift was only appropriate starting at 1 year. She has really been enjoying it since 9 months. Because the cube plays different tunes and the instruments sound different, the cube holds her attention for a while. I highly recommend this toy!
Customer Review: Bate and switch Summary: 1 Stars
I ordered a "Mozart Magic Cube Ages 6 months + 1 ea" from this site, but what I received is a "Mozart Magic Cube". The former is rated at the weight 1.9 lbs the latter is at 1.6. Price I paid for is $29.99 the one I got is sold at this site at $16.99. I know Embryonics morphed into Munchkin, and the new company had been marketing an inferior imitation, before I placed the order. If you look at carefully the pictures of the Magic Cube advertised by [...], the color scheme is different from the inferior regular Munchkin item: not only the color scheme is different, but also the product spec. of the two items, one with "6 months + 1 ea" and without, they are different in the weight spec. as well. I got caught by the ruse, and placed order for the higher priced item even though there sat the cheaper one with different color scheme next to it.
It is not easy to lodge a complaint to this store for the switch. There is an intermediary who promises to leave a message to the proper party.
My advise to the fellow shoppers is to avoid my mistake.
Customer Review: I like it, the baby likes it, it serves it's purpose! Summary: 5 Stars
I have read through some of the ridiculous low-star reviews and can't believe how anal people are. This is a baby's toy for $20. It's not a minature version of the New York Symphony stuffed into a $600 Bose music player, like some people are expecting.
Since this is a child's toy, I think it's serves it's purpose well. The music is clear. The lights flash when the music plays. I think it's neat that you can add or subtract musical instruments during the song that's playing so your baby can hear what each individual instrument sounds like.
My daughter loves the toy. It keeps her occupied for long periods of time and she's learning the names of each instrument and how they each sound both together in an orchestra and individually.
The people who are expecting this to be something more than it is need to understand that the toy wasn't designed for their enjoyment. The toy was designed for children. And, in my opinion, it's an exceptional toy that will keep most children entertained which, in and of itself, is a blessing.
Customer Review: Do You Need A New Book End? Summary: 1 Stars
This is horrible. After spending most of my life studying music I am sad to say that this will ruin any child's ear for music if they have one. I thought it was just ours that always sounds out of tune and like a dying cow, but it isn't. The movie preview isn't much better than the one in our home. It has a bit more rhythm.
After having this toy for over a year I am ready to throw it away if it weren't such a great book end. It is somewhat heavy and has rubber stoppers great for your child's book shelf.
Feel free to replace and buy new batteries the results will always be the same. The directions state that if that happens you should turn it off wait a few seconds and turn it back on again. This never once fixed the problem. Since this problem is noted in the instruction manual the company won't do anything about it unless you are the original purchaser with the receipt. Ours was a gift.
Good luck with this toy. I have moved on to find ones worth my time that won't disable my child's musical talent.
