Baby Products Reviews of Munchkin Mozart Magic CubeCustomer Review: Great toy...but a couple of drawbacks Summary: 4 Stars
This is a great musical toy that my son loves to play with. It is very robustly made and has a good on/off switch (easy for parents to operate but hard for kids), as well as being very colourful. I would have given the product 5 starts but for a couple of issues:
- The quality of some of the music is very poor - some of the instrumenst sound very realistic (they could even be recordings of the real thing) whereas others are very tinny and artificial which is a shame
- The cube is quite heavy (not sure why?) which makes it difficult for small children to lift, and also means if they drop it on their feet it will hurt!
Otherwise a great toy...and be aware that the price changes a lot on Amazon, so if you have the time watch it for a while before buying.
Customer Review: Wonderful Toy for a growing baby Summary: 4 Stars
I ordered this product for my daughter to give her more toy variance, and I also ordered this because I am a big advocate for Mozart for Children. My daughter, who is nine months old, loves playing with this cube. The colors, texture, and sound are wonderful. The size is just right for her to manipulate with her hands. The only small drawback I have noticed is that the buttons are a little hard to depress for a nine month old, but I imagine in a month that won't be an issue.
Pros:
Great size
Good music quality and variance
Novel concept of orchestration
Enough permutations to keep from getting stale
Cons:
Buttons seem a little stiff for baby (though, this could change as she gets older and be a good thing)
Customer Review: DON'T BUY THIS! Summary: 1 Stars
I really wish I had heard the Mozart Magic Cube prior to buying it for my daughter. The intonation and distortion are just nasty, and no one of any age should have to be subjected to it. It's really too bad, because conceptually the toy is a good idea. But the violin is really flat, and sounds particularly awful when played along with the flute. I also think it's sad that a music teacher mentioned in one of the other reviews gave this as a gift. It illustrates the state of music education in America. If you want to buy your child something good, buy CDs of Mozart and real instruments to play along with it -- maracas, drums, whatever. Even if an electronic instrument is in tune, it's much more passive than something physical, natural, and acoustic.
Customer Review: Perfect toy for infants and toddlers Summary: 5 Stars
The Mozart Magic Cube was given to my infant daughter as a Christmas gift--she loves it! Perfect for little hands as they are learning coordination and motor skills. It is fun to listen to the songs and isolate the different instruments or add them back in, one by one. The rubber sides are durable, especially if dropped. Nice, also, to have no sharp edges on it, so it is very safe. My 11 month old niece was over to play and she discovered the cube and was enchanted by it. I will be giving her one for her very own for her upcoming birthday! As for the loudness level, I don't find it terribly loud; however, I recognize it needs to be at a certain level in order for babies to focus in on it (if it were softer, they might not pay attention to it).
Customer Review: Too loud, not interesting Summary: 2 Stars
Based on the mostly positive feedback, I purchased this cube as a birthday present for my son's first birthday. He's not even slightly interested in the sound; my 4-year old pushed the buttons a few times, but complains that it's much too loud - unfortunately you can't control the volume. It really is too loud. The 1-year old pushed the buttons twice, and got very close in order to look at the blinking light, but that's it. The sound quality is also not the greatest, but it is a children's toy, so I didn't really expect it to be any better. So, neither one of my children plays with it or is actually interested in it, and the biggest drawback is the lack of volume control, since the toy is way too loud. I'm seriously considering returning it.
