I purchased Mighty Grip Flip a couple months ago for my 14 month-old boy. He didn't like the idea of not having a bottle. He didn't reject the straw cups but instead played with it and sipped water only to spit it out. I let it go but kept the clean cups in his view. Today he finally wanted the cup and asked for it to be filled with milk.
As a first time mom, my perspective on the product was that it seemed hard to suck, having washed it and use it, the straws give a little and it's a lot better now. We have no problems with leaks. My son carries it around the house, shakes it and nothing comes out. I like that it is hard to flip open (my son can't do this himself either) so there are no accidents in my bag.
When I fill it completely, it does seem heavy and is a turn-off for my son, so I just half fill it for now. What I do like about this cup is the easy grip shape, size and smoothness. Don't worry about my son falling on it. I'm giving it five stars for product quality and Amazon's price. The only thing I wish is that we could select colors because I have a boy, I don't want pink on my second order. I like pink but I don't want strangers wondering why my son is using pink.

I will admit that the directions were a bit confusing the first time I had to take apart then re-assemble the cup but once I'd done one, no problem. About the suction - instructions clearly say to squeeze the valve. Before first use, I used a fork just to make sure I could see the vents in the suction part open. You can also tell if they open when you pinch the valve as instructions suggest. Neither I nor my 12-month old has any difficulty with suction when using the cup. Some other reviewers comment about getting flip top off. If you sort of twist sideways it pops right off. No problem at all putting the straw back in if you do it BEFORE you clip the flip top back on. Again, it truly SOUNDS more complicated than it is.
We love this cup!! Total transition from bottle to sippy in one weekend. As other reviewers have said, leaking is mininal. The added bonus is that the cup helped my child learn to drink well from a "regular" straw now. No need to pack sippy cups for travel, just flex straws in the diaper bag now.

I bought these straw cups because my 14-month-old daughter was having difficulty tipping back her other sippy cups. The first time I gave her one of these cups, it didn't work so well. She got frustrated because the valve was so strong, it prevented her from being able to drink her milk. But after using a straw cleaner to clean inside the valve a few times, it's gotten much better. I've also sucked on it a few times myself to help loosen the valve a bit. Now it works pretty well.
I like how she can hold it well, pick it up easily, drink from it without having to tilt it back, and how it comes apart easily for washing (though this did take me a minute to figure out the first time).
It does leak a little, but it's not too bad, and as I said the valve was a little too strong at first, but overall, I think this is a great sippy cup.
My one recommendation would be to buy a straw cleaner if you get these cups. I can't imagine how anyone could possibly clean those straws without one.
Customer Review: bad design, collects molds in areas you can't clean

The cup looks really cute but the design is awful. I can't figure who for the life of me why they would go with such a complicated design. It looks simple for the outside. The inside (top lid) is as complicated as it gets.
The straw is really hard to put back. My son pulled out the straw from one of the cups. It took me 15 mins to put the straw back in (the straw is bended, not straight and the inside is hollow) You have to match up the straw with the opening exactly. Good luck with that!
The cup started to collect mold around the straw area. Cleaning the straw is a nightmare. You have to take the straw out and it's very difficult to have the pipe cleaner bend like the straw. In addition, the inside of the lid is hollow which collects a lot of mold and it's virtually impossible to clean.
These bottles also leak. I had one in my purse (not diaper bag) and it leaked all over my phone, wallet, keys, everything!!! Needless to say, my bag was ruined.

I'm surprised to hear from the one reviewer that this cup doesn't leak when closed and turned upside down. I have two of these cups and both of them leak when turned upside down or even when they're just turned on their side and shaken a little. I believe I'm the third person (at the time of this review) to experience this problem, so I find it hard to believe we all just got defective cups. Then again, I haven't contacted Munchkin and perhaps there was a bad batch of cups.
Despite the leaking, I'm pretty happy with this cup. It's easy to assemble and wash (unlike the Nuby straw cup with flip top that has 3 straw pieces and is a major pain to put together), and I appreciate that it's BPA free. My son (17 mo) does not usually turn the cup upside down, so the leaking isn't a big problem. When the cup is in my diaper bag, standing vertically, it doesn't leak, and that's all I care about with respect to leaking. I just want to be able to transport the thing without making a mess.
