Customer Review: Why no air vent?

I really want to love these cups: the graphics are cute, the colored straw doesn't stain easily, they feel smooth and solid in the hand yet aren't too heavy in a bag, and they are thinner and nicer for my 27 month old to hold than the Playtex straw cup. To get the straw in easily, just take the flip-top piece out, thread the straw in, and then gently snap the flipper back in.
My complaint is that there seems to be no air vent, so when my son drinks there is a constant slurping/wheezing/gurgling sound as the air tries to get in. Silly, and avoidable. I have to loosen the top so much that I'm pretty sure the non-spill feature is mostly negated. But my son is not a thrower of cups any longer, and he's so in love with his Dora cups (which he WOULD NOT leave Babies R Us without last week) that we will keep using them.
Another gripe not particular to this product: since when did Dora become only for girls? My two older sons (now 11 and 12) loved Dora in the pre-Diego era, and neither they nor my youngest boy ever had any real interest in Diego. Why, why, why does everything with Dora on it have to be covered in pink and tutus and princess hats? She is a plucky girl who gets s*** done, pardon my french, and there's just no reason in this day and age to consign her to a life of purple sparkles. We were lucky enough to find some jungle/ocean themed cups that are a little flowery but not a total mermaid-ballerina-palooza. I don't care about the gender issue, but the princess-themed stuff just isn't interesting to my son. Munchkin and others, if you're listening: how about some Dora products with unisex themes, maybe even Rojo the fire truck and Azul the train? Thanks.
