Baby Products Reviews of Munchkin Deluxe Potty Seat, Colors May VaryCustomer Review: Find something else for boys Summary: 1 Stars
As mentioned in other reviews this seat is not at all suitable for little boys to use. I had bought this (in green) for my daughter when she was around 3.5 years old (now 5) and it worked fine. Then my son came to potty training age and it's absolutely not well built for little boys. The hole is just barely big enough for when he has to go poo and/or pee - if he sits straight and center. There's been quite a few times when he didn't tuck himself all the way down and we ended up with a pool/waterfall of pee. And a very unhappy little boy. Although he made it to the potty in time he went away feeling a little like he failed I think. Now he insists on help every single time so there's no sense of him feeling truly confident in himself to go by himself. Along with that the cleaning up of the collected pee in the pieces that hold the seat in place is no fun, and the pee tracks from where it's stored standing on it's little "feet" next to the toilet. Just too many places for pee to collect. Not at all sanitary. My one and only guest bathroom, which is also the kids' bathroom, now reeks and I'm currently waiting for a replacement toilet seat that incorporates a kids potty seat along with the adult seat. Kohler has a great one, however they only have it in elongated size. So I'm now waiting for one (different brand) in standard that'll be just as good, or at least MUCH better than the potty seat he's now using. The whole family can't wait to toss this potty seat.
Customer Review: I wouldn't change a thing Summary: 5 Stars
This seat is amazing. I have a boy, none of the issues other reviewers have mentioned. The lack of a pee guard means he can sit on the edge and scoot back, which is necessary since he's a small 2 year old, otherwise I'd have to put him on the seat every time.
I have a padded toilet seat, so the opening is small and this potty seat seemed at first like it didn't fit. My husband figured out that if you push down well, it "clicks" in and won't budge, so it's super secure with no movement at all. As long as the adults remember to put the seat on after they flush every time, I don't have to get up to help my son in the bathroom. I'm 8 and a half months pregnant, so this is a big plus for me.
The pegs on the back that are supposed to let the seat stand up are a little useless, it will stand on them if you do it just right, but leaning it against the wall is easier and less likely to fall over. It's not a function I care about, so I won't dock points for it.
Normally I won't buy items that have a majority of poor Amazon reviews, but luckily I wanted to buy in-store and didn't check reviews on every seat. I had no idea this was rated so badly, and I'm really glad I didn't know!
Customer Review: Pretty good, but leaks Summary: 2 Stars
I must admit, this is the first potty seat that my son can sit on where the pee doesn't fly over the top the seat. I was really happy with the seat up until I picked it up...
The seat, unfortunately, catches all the pee on the underside, causing the toilet seat to be pee covered, the potty seat underside to be pee covered, and the seat to leak out pee once you pick the thing up. While I'm happy that the seat works - I hate it because I still need to clean things up when my kid gets off the seat.
In comparison to the other seats I've purchased, this seat is the best because less pee gets on the floor - I might just have to try putting silicon around the base to keep it from filling with pee though...
UPDATE: I sealed all the edges of the seat with some silicon caulking (got it from Lowes for $3) and now the pee goes where it's supposed to go - into the toilet! Just because of that, I would actually raise it a star for use, but it's a DIY star. If you're willing to go that extra mile, this seat works great.
Customer Review: A Comfortable Seat For Little Girls! Summary: 5 Stars
I have to agree with isismommy - this is a wonderful seat for little girls. I hate to see all the bad reviews too - since this seat help my daughter to enjoy pottying again. I originally had the PRIMO Ducka seat, which is too cute with wonderful ratings, but didn't work at all for my petite daughter and actually rubbed the inside of her thighs RAW! Well, I found this seat at Target and she took to it right away! It fit my toilet almost perfectly with very little movement. The adjustable handles are a cool feature too! It's very comfortable and there are no awkward pieces to rub against her legs. I can see how this seat wouldn't be good for both girls AND boys. If I had a little boy, I'd search for a seat with a pee guard!
After a little searching on Amazon, I found this cute Princess seat by Munchkin: Munchkin Super Star Potty Seat - Princess
Customer Review: Maybe okay for a girl...but not a boy! Summary: 2 Stars
Seems like a good idea for a seat. I liked the handles for them to hold on to (more sanitary) and it sits okay on a big adult seat. But the opening is just too small. It is not the lack of a deflector. I have another brand with a bigger opening for our other bathroom and my son does fine on that one. This one the pee gets all over his legs, the seat, the stool and the floor each and every time. This is a big hassle, unsanitary and a pain to clean up each time he tries to go potty. Maybe it would be okay for a petite girl but not for a boy. We are shopping for a replacement now. I don't want a deflector type because the doctors warn that they can scrape a little boys private area and cause them to not want to sit on the potty because it might hurt. We just teach him to point "it" down and on a potty with a bigger opening that works just fine.
