Customer Review: Doesn't stay on toilet rim

Inside this package they give you spacers to fit the product to the toilet. Three spacers is too loose on the rim and four spacers is too tight. (The clamp won't fit over the top of the rim without snapping in half. The spacers fall off anyway.)
It says in the directions that it'll work when slightly loose. Well, when it's slightly loose, it slightly POPS OFF the toilet. Isn't very useful when it won't even attach to the toilet.
I refuse to spend extra money and time fitting adhesive or rubber onto the inside of this gadget. It's going back. I'll just close the bathroom door. It's free and guaranteed to work!
Our toilet is a brand new American Standard--nothing out of the ordinary. Don't waste your time or money with this thing.

This product is easy to use and install although I usually had to use 2 hands to open it. This did not seem to be a big deal and it makes me think that a toddler would be unable to open it- my 18 month old certainly couldn't figure it out. My only major complaint is that the inner latch that secures it to the bowl did not extend far enough for my toilet. I used the larger extender and it would not even lock into the first "click." This resulted in that portion falling into the toilet and accidently getting flushed away. It would have been helpful if the information on then latch would have included measurements so that I would have known that it wouldn't fit my "deep toilet." This product worked much better than one other toilet lock which uses a suction cup which did not work at all. With this type of toilet lock, it hooks onto the bowl part of the toilet then has an "arm" part that swings up to hold the seat and lid down.
Pros:
1. It is definately effective at keeping the toilet lid down.
2. No tools necessary to install.
3. It's a good product for the price.
4. Has an easy release for adults to open.
Cons:
1. The product itself seems "flimsy" and not extremely strong that an older child might be able to break it.
2. When the "arm" part hangs down when lid is open, it might be broken by an older child.

It is effective, but it can be more difficult to use than some other options.
Its use isn't intuitive - we had some workmen in our place for a few days and they just muscled the toilet lid up, breaking the adhesive (but not the device or the toilet). I know, they shouldn't have done this, but desperate times called for desperate measures...
My wife also thinks its location on the rim near the front edge is "icky"
Safety First has a model that mounts in the rear center top of the toilet lid and pushed against the tank - that one is much better.

I tried two other toilet locks and neither worked. The one that suctions onto the back of the toilet was the worst. This lock, however, really works! You do have to work a little to get it adjusted the first time. It also seems to work better when placed toward the front of the bowl. Consequently, it is a little in the way when you use the toilet. However, it's small, inexpensive, simple to unlock with one hand, and so far toddler-proof! I plan on buying a second one for the other bathroom. I was waiting to be sure I liked this one and didn't throw more money down the toilet.
