Baby Products Reviews of Mommy's Helper Toilet Seat Lid-LokCustomer Review: Flimsy and didn't fit Summary: 2 Stars
I don't know if I have a strange-shaped toilet bowl and seat cover or what, but I could not get this to fit so that it would keep the lid shut. I placed it according to the directions, used all the plates to get a snug fit, and had the thing snapped to the bowl sturdily (ew, by the way; not so keen on a design that requires me to stick my hands under the rim of the bowl no matter how recently it was scrubbed), but when I closed the lock over the toilet lid, there was more than enough free space to open the lid a good 3 inches or so - more than enough room for him to stick his hand in or shove something through. Not to mention the fact that I know my 17 month old is strong enough to break this thing in no time flat, even if he doesn't figure out how to unlock it first. I took it off and until I find a better replacement product I'm just going to have to close the bathroom door and use a knob cover.
Honesly, I'm disappointed in all the baby-proofing products we got from this brand (gifts, not our own purchases) as they are all a similar flimsy material and don't fit on our appliances. :(
Customer Review: It works great . . . sorta Summary: 4 Stars
This is the first time I've written a review and I'm only doing it because I was intrigued by one especially negative review in light of all the positive reviews. I bought the product anyway and quickly discovered that it doesn't work on my toilets. Too easy to pull up the lid and seat and completely rip the lock off the toilet rim - no matter how well attached. At first I thought the product was entirely useless. But I'm happy to report that the problem was easily solved. I bought shelf liner made out of rubber and cut a strip to fit on the rim where I planned to install the lock. I installed the lock over the rubber strip and secured it according to the instructions. Voila! The lock fits snugly on the rim and secures the toilet seat and lid very well. I'm surprised the company doesn't include a rubber fitting with the product, as it certainly works and would probably eliminate any complaints.
Customer Review: Easily contaminated toilet lock Summary: 3 Stars
The Mommy's Helper Toilet Seat Lid-Lok resides in the toilet bowl. Installation requires measurement of the height of the internal toilet bowl rim, and then choosing the snap-in plastic adapter for the approximate height of the toilet rim. Installation then requires placement of the lock in the toilet, loosely attached to and under the toilet rim. The part of the toilet lock outside of the toilet is also somewhat loose, giving the whole apparatus a flimsy feel (although the toilet seat cannot be opened more than an inch or so). While this toilet lock functions as described, cleaning the toilet bowl requires moving the toilet lock to clean the area under the toilet lock, and the toilet lock seems somewhat unsanitary. External toilet locks exist that are easy to install and more sanitary (see Safety 1st).
Customer Review: Perfect for a Basic Toilet Summary: 5 Stars
I bought one of these to try out, then bought 2 more for other toilets in the home. It was incredibly easy to install, just attach a plate to adjust fit and slide it on. It closes nicely and quickly over the lid and fits securely. It is a little tricky to open, and can be done one handed with a little effort. Once you know how to do it it is fine, but you will have to explain how to do it to everyone jnew using the toilet. Just use 2 fingers to press up on the two small tabs and flip the latch off to the side. It can be slid around and the toilet lid lifted up anyways, but it would take a lot of strength for a baby to do it! ( MY husband did it when he had to go bad and couldn't figure out how to open it! Overall a good buy for the price if you don't have a tricky toilet, but it should fit most.
Customer Review: Does it's job Summary: 4 Stars
Works well and installation was easy. My only beef is that the directions say it works best when places at the angles of "8 o'clock" or "4 o'clock" on the seat, but the child can easily push it to any other position while the seat is closed. Even while doing that though, he's still not able to get it open, which is all I care about.
Update: About 9 months after purchasing this product, it finally broke. My son definitely abused it. He snapped it off a few times and it landed in the toilet, after which I ran it through the dishwasher because it grossed me out to touch. So after 9 months it broke. For the price, I'd say I got my money's worth. I would be purchasing another, but hopefully my son will be potty training within the next few months (crossing my fingers!)
