Customer Review: My 11-month old broke it easily, and hard to clean

I had this installed for a while for the adults to get used to it, and only recently has my son been old enough to pull up. Within a month of him interacting with it, it was broken beyond repair. Here is what is wrong with this product:
- The only thing holding it on the toilet is an L-shaped piece of plastic that's about 1/8" thick. My 11-month old son yanked on it a few times and it broke, sending part of it down the toilet into our septic system, and making this whole thing useless.
- The system of spacers they have to make it fit a variety of toilets also make it stick out pretty far and not lock as securely if you have a thinner walled toilet.
- There are a LOT of little crevices and ribs on this product, which means it gets gross fast and is hard to clean. You basically can't clean it without taking it off and submerging/rinsing the whole thing. And to take it off the toilet you have to try to pry open a little plastic lever *inside the bowl* where it is grossest. Also, the ratchet piece goes in once and then can't be completely removed, and so there is no way to completely sanitize it. There was black stuff growing in there that I tried everything to clean, but since you can't take it apart and the pieces fit closely together, it's a smelly mildew haven.
The only pros: before it broke it did prevent the lid from coming up (and stymied a few adults who were visiting). A three-year-old figured it out immediately, however.
I'm not going to order a replacement. I'm going to try a different product, as the design flaws are significant.

Every time I would turn my back my two-year-old twins would get into the toilet. It was disgusting, messy and made my life a complete hassle. I would have to stop cooking dinner, clean up the mess, bathe the kids and hope they'd stay out of the bathroom. There is no way to lock the door to our guest bathroom, and I was actually going to have to run out and purchase yet another child gate to keep the kids out of there.
I figured the price of this lock is cheaper than a new gate, so I bought one to see if it would work.
It works! It took all four spacers to make the lock fit our somewhat oddly shaped German toilet, but now that it's in the kids can't budge it a bit. The toilet is a large oval, so I had to put the lock directly in the front to keep the lid down tightly.
It's been a while now and they can't get around it, even if they pull on the lock or try to force the toilet lid up. It's gotten to the point where they don't even bother with the toilet anymore.
I'm buying another for our entry way 1/2 bath so I don't have to keep locking the door from the outside. I wish I'd known months ago that I could spend less than $8 for a solution to this problem!
Customer Review: Not as effective as I'd hoped

I purchased this product after having tried other toilet baby-proofing products. We have an unusual toilet tank (old house) and most other products either didn't fit or broke quickly due to the unusual stresses that the shape of the tank puts on the plastic.
This one does work on our toilet and should be durable since it doesn't actually touch/attach to the tank. Unfortunately, it has several flaws. Part of the product attaches to the bowl, and as you can imagine, it gets dirty along with the rest of the bowl. Due to the square joins of the plastic parts, though, it is no where as easy to clean as the rounded bowl. The other problem has to do with the fact that it can easily slide around on the bowl. This issue is two-fold: my son likes to slide the product around to the back of the bowl (by the hinges), which makes it both more likely to get dirty and also makes it so that he can lift the lid at the front of the bowl enough to get his hand underneath. It isn't tight enough to hurt his hand, but often he can't get it out himself.
If we had another option, I'd go with it - this isn't worth the hassle if you can go with an alternative.
Customer Review: Great Non-Permanent Option

I looked into several toilet locks before ordering and I was disappointed that so many of the best-rated products involved more permanent installation. So I found this one and thought it was worth a try. Although I think my son will eventually figure this out (I've seen him try lifting one lever already- probably having seen us do it and he's a good imitator monkey), I'm hoping by then that he'll also understand not to play in the toilet. It takes some coordination to lift both levers at the same time. In fact, my husband and I have horribly enjoyed hearing our family go into the downstairs bathroom and have to call us to show them how to do it- all as they have to use the restroom. LOL! It is not permanent and doesn't seem to be leaving marks on the toilet or lid (of course, if you slammed it down really hard, you might get some marks under the toilet seat itself but we aren't the gentlest family and I don't see anything). If you are a larger person, you might feel the outer part of the arm against your thigh even when it is open, but it doesn't hurt and we've just pushed it towards the front more. I think this is a great option and works well.Customer Review: excellent product...

1. The plastic is very sturdy for its purpose. ( 5 stars).
2. Highly customizable to fit any toilet, it has adjustable plastic parts to fit width and depth required to secure ( 5 stars)
3. It can attach firmly to bottom part of toilet and the latch is used to lock in center lid and top cover (enough width even if you have additional rug cover) ..again (5 stars)
4. Best part and most intelligent of all is : easy to open for adults..and impossible to figure out for toddlers. two fingers simultaneous operation required to open. open with one hand. ( 5 stars)
Lastly I installed this on the side on toilet (insdead of front), this make sure kids cannot even look at this while I open this lid-lock so makes learning how to open impossible for kids.
Hats off who ever designed this..and I highly recommend this product..
