Baby Products Reviews of Moby Wrap Original 100% Cotton Baby Carrier, Chocolate

Customer Review: Don't be intimidated!
Summary: 5 Stars

I was really afraid to purchase this product, even after reading all the positive reviews. I am not particularly great at following (what I perceived to be) complicated instructions and felt as though I was not going to be able to successfully master wrapping the baby.

However, I had a baby who would NOT allow me to put her down and also didn't like anyone else to hold her. Since I was also attempting to take care of a five year old, I was in desperate need for an extra pair of hands.

So we ended up going to a baby carrier store where I was able to try on the wrap and immediately fell in love. By the time I got home, I had already forgotten how to put the wrap on! Enter - YouTube. Yes, there are a ton of videos out there with step by step instructions. After the second time of putting the wrap on, I had it mastered and never again had to refer to a source. Trust me, if I could get it, so can you!

My daughter absolutey loved it, and it holds so tightly that I was able to do housework and cook dinner. In fact, I even bowled an entire three games in a youth adult league with my oldest daughter with the baby nestled int he wrap.

I noticed that a lot of people said they only used it for the very young ages, but I used mine up until about 8 months or so. There is a side hold position, but she is just too squirmy to be wrapped up that tight at this point!

All in all, I would highly recommend this wrap to any new mom. It creates a wonderful sense of closeness to the baby!

Customer Review: Hated it at first..
Summary: 3 Stars

I registered for this carrier just because it got high ratings. I really wish I would have READ the reviews. I didn't realize this was one really long piece of fabric. By really long, I mean about 5 yards (I haven't measured). Forget ever getting it back inside the pouch it comes in once you take it out, or putting it on anywhere except your house. There is no way to avoid dragging it on the ground when trying to get it on.

Nevertheless, I tried it out for the first time when my daughter was about 1 week old. I tried the cradle hold and the Newborn hug hold. She started crying immediately for the cradle hold, and tolerated the newborn hug hold for about 5 minutes before crying.

I thought maybe I just didn't have it wrapped correctly according to the instructional booklet, so I tried every few days, and every time I got the same result: almost instant tears.

At 5 weeks old, I was getting desperate to have two hands free. She wanted to be held, but hated this carrier and the Snugli carrier would only be tolerated for 20 minutes. So, one day I watched several YouTube videos, and found a couple wrapping styles that weren't in the manual. Turns out my daughter wants her legs to dangle, and once I tried these new styles, she likes it MUCH better! I can now wear her for over an hour!

It distributes her weight really well so it's pretty comfortable on my end. I hope she continues to like it once she gets bigger.

Customer Review: Great for colic; requires a lot of practice and isn't foolproof
Summary: 3 Stars

Our 5-week-old son, who has colic, sleeps more soundly in the Moby than when we're holding him in our arms (or when we put him down, of course). It's great for those middle-of-the-night wakefulness marathons, though he does need to be well-fed, burped, and bounced quite a bit before he's willing to be popped in the Moby. Even then, he hates having his head tucked in, and since he can't support his own head, it's often a struggle that results in my holding his head with one hand, leaving only one hand free.

Although this is a wonderful aid to bonding, and feels great when it's properly used, I've watched the videos and practiced for weeks and I still often tie it too tight or too loose and have to start over. With a newborn, the wrap has to be secured "just so" or he ends up sinking down into the fabric because it's too loose, or else he cries and squirms because it's too snug. In both cases, his ability to breathe comfortably is compromised. I've had a few incidents of being in a parking lot trying to tie the Moby repeatedly while the ends drag on the dirty ground. My husband can't manage it at all--he thinks it requires a degree in origami!

I have a feeling this product gets simpler to use once the child has better head control. For now, I'm switching to the Ergo. I'm just too exhausted by constantly tying and re-tying the Moby.

Customer Review: Consumerism at its best - great advertising, not so great product but convinced consumers
Summary: 1 Stars

This is a long piece of black cloth that people have figured out how to market really well. I am frustrated by companies trying to convince consumers that products like this are "absolutely essential".

Even after reading the instructions carefully, putting the baby is in difficult at best - with my wife helping me as well. That is when the baby is in a good mood. Imagine putting the baby into the folds when she is already screaming loudly - it only makes the colic worse. Aside from the difficulty of use - after I put the baby in, I did not like the way it stretches and thus bends the baby's back.

I can see if the baby is in a good mood and you have a lot of time to put this on - sure it can carry your baby. But I recommend purchasing a standard baby carrier over this any day. They are much easier to use and gives the baby good posture. Just because it seems "out of the box" to use a long cloth to carry the baby - does not automatically give the product merit.

This is an example of some intelligent marketing people saying "how can be make consumers believe a long black cloth is a must buy?". To start off you will see that the box that the moby wrap comes packaged in with is filled with "awards". The instruction booklet is very fancy with over smiling parents. Finally they have a high budget website with celebrity endorsements - based on all the 5 star reviews I see all these methods worked great.

Customer Review: Awesome!
Summary: 4 Stars

I decided to buy a Moby after the birth of my second little guy, who is now 6 weeks old. There are only 18 months between my two boys so taking them both grocery shopping and getting errands done was a much bigger chore than having an older child since the oldest still needs to sit in the shopping cart to prevent him from running off! The Moby has been really nice so that I have one in the cart and one on me while I can have my hands, and the cart empty to get stuff done. My youngest really likes it while he's in it. We've only been doing two of the different holds, since he can't hold his head up yet, but I'm looking forward to trying out some of the others. It's also been nice for taking walks while my oldest is in the stroller and eating out at a restaurant with the family.

There are two things that make me only give it 4 stars:
1. It's hot. You have your own shirt on, the Moby and a hot little infant. It's probably fabulous for the winter but I'm finding it gets really hot when the weather is warmer.
2. Even when you have the wrap perfected, once you take the baby out, you have to sort of readjust the wrap again before putting the baby back in, since it's all shifted and is looser. So that can be a pain sometimes when you need to nurse and then want to put the baby back in. They have a certain "hold" for nursing, but I haven't had the chance to try it yet.
