Baby Products Reviews of Moby Wrap Original 100% Cotton Baby Carrier, Black

Customer Review: Love it!
Summary: 5 Stars

I love my moby wrap. I admit that the long piece of cloth was a bit daunting at first, but there are some good youtube videos that clearly demonstrate how to get your baby in the moby. It also takes a bit of practice - but let's face it, so do most things with babies.

I used the moby when I had to walk my dog - much easier to tote the newborn around in that and pick up poop than trying to coordinate a stroller and a leash! It was also wonderful for traveling. Plus, my little one was a preemie, so at 5 pounds he couldn't go in other carriers yet. I did the cradle hold with him for the first few weeks and we both loved it. After my son hit 8 lbs, I tried the Baby Bjorn a few times. It was terribly uncomfortable and I ended up returning it. We still use that moby and he is over 15 lbs now.

Oh - and for those people complaining about not wanting to wrap your child in the parking lot, here's a tip= wrap the moby at home before you get in the car and then once you get to the parking lot you can just slip the baby in! (Not to mention - if you ever do have to 'drag' the moby on the ground don't fret, the parts that drag on the ground just end up wrapping around your waist and tying into a knot. It's not the parts that touch the baby.)

Customer Review: Love the material
Summary: 5 Stars

I read most of the reviews before I purchased this product. After using the wrap several times for my 2 month old, I rate it 5 stars. I love the material, it is easy to use, comfortable, and my baby likes it. Before I bought it, I was using a Baby Bjorn - but it only offers 2 carry positions for my little one, and she is too small for one of them. I also had been using an Infantino sling (hated it, hated it, hated it). I was looking for something that gave me more body surface contact with my baby and offered more positions, and was comfortable to wear. The Moby wrap fulfills all of these needs for me. I think it is way more comfortable than my Baby Bjorn - although it does take slightly longer to assemble. I have to disagree with people who thought that it is hard to use - just read the first two pages of the instruction manual - the rest is pretty instinctual. Once you have the basic wrap pattern down, you can figure out tons of ways to use it for your baby. I haven't washed it yet, and I am a little nervous about how it will retain its color and shape when I do. I am very satisfied with my purchase and hope to be using this product for a long time to come!

Customer Review: TERRIBLE product
Summary: 1 Stars

This product was a huge dissapointment. I was so excited when I put it on my x-mas wishlist a month after my son was born. Tried to wear it all through x-mas dinner and unwrapping gifts, and it was terrible. The main problem is that the material is STRETCH cotton. My tiny 6lb son started out plastered to my body with the tons of fabric nearly smothering him, then slowly would slip down into a little ball and the fabric would be completely covering his head, which was obviously unsafe. It was also very warm - TOO warm. I tried just once walking outside with him in it in the middle of a Washington, D.C. winter and I was sweating.
If it were made of plain cotton it might work. Plain cotton would be more breathable, too. It's advertised as being made of "stretch cotton" but I'm sure it actually has some polyester or other substance that gives it the stretchiness, and also makes it suffocating for mom and baby. Anyway, if it were plain cotton you may as well just buy a bolt of plain cotton from the fabric store for a lot less.
I wouldn't recommend this product to an enemy. If it were possible, I'd give it 0 stars.

Customer Review: Difficult to put on
Summary: 3 Stars

I really wanted to like this wrap but it really is a pain to put on. It's not difficult or complicated, once you practice, it is just that the wrap is soooo long. Once you get it on, it is very secure for the baby and can hold babies of different sizes. My newborn fit in here as well as my 18 month old niece. The best part is that you can nurse your baby hands free! The only reason this doesn't get more stars is that it is a pain to put on, very heavy and bulky to put in a diaper bag, and hot in the summer months.

Pros:
- Handsfree baby wearing
- Very secure, you can even bend over without worrying about dropping the baby, I can't really do this with my bjorn carrier
- Many different positions
- Great for handsfree nursing

Cons:
- Hot in the summer months
- Difficult to put on (if you are going somewhere in the car, you need to put this on before you go or you will drag it all over the parking lot
- Too heavy and bulky to carry in a diaper bag

Bottom line, I would buy this again, but I also recommend a ring sling for quick secure carrying.

Customer Review: unwieldy and baby doesn't always love it.
Summary: 3 Stars

I bought this on the passionate recommendations I received from friends who are new moms and my doula. These are my problems with it:

- extremely unwieldy. it's been 7 weeks of my using it and i'm still just starting to get used to putting it on. every time i put it on, it's different, sometimes too loose, sometimes too tight. my baby fights me when i try to put her in and it's too tight. she fights me when i have her in and it's too loose. my point is, it's tricky to get it consistent, so it takes time for me to get it right often having to take the baby out to adjust. also, when you are outside, putting it on can be a challenge without dragging the fabric on a dirty sidewalk or floor.

- we overheat. my baby consistently overheats when she is in the moby. we have used it mostly in a cool indoor setting, and she still overheats. i have to make sure she is wearing minimal clothing before i put her in. but after she's fallen asleep and i want to put her down for the night, i have to put clothing back on her and that poses the danger of waking her up when i'm putting a shirt or sock on her.
