Customer Review: Solid Product, But Unexpected Results
Summary: 3 Stars

First, let me say that this appears to be a well-designed product. It has worked as described. My concerns are with the way our children responded. We bought a pair of these for our kids (3yrs & 5yrs). We really wanted it for our 3-year-old because we've been fighting her to go to sleep at night. She has claimed that she's "scared of the dark." We got one for our son too because we wanted to be fair.

The problem is that these devices are bright enough that they light up a large area of the room and it just provided ongoing stimulation for our daughter so she wouldn't go to sleep. In fact, she ended up keeping our son from sleeping because of the extended playtime this device provided.

We try to have our children in bed with lights out by 7:30pm, but it is usually around 8pm. On New Years Eve they stayed up a little later. At 9pm it was lights out (or so we thought). Our daughter did not calm down until after I finally took the TykeLight out of the room. That was at 10:30pm and it involved 90 minutes of returning to the room every time we heard her out of bed.

Perhaps this product will provide some security for other children. In our case, it just enabled our daughter to stay up later.

Customer Review: Very Sad to Lose this Product
Summary: 3 Stars

I got these for my kids for Christmas and they were a huge hit especially for my son who is terrified of the dark. We hate him having a bedside light on all night so this was the perfect solution as the light is bright enough to offer comfort but not so bright as to disturb his sleep (and our sleep). I would have rated this ten stars if I could but it only lasted three days! Actually it was less than that because it died on the third day as soon as he turned it on. He was so upset to lose it and to make matters worse Amazon no longer carries it. I went to the manufacturer and they had no way to contact them about the problem and a big sign that said they no longer have these in stock on the website. Needless to say we are not impressed. Luckily my daughter's light is still working and it has been about 2 weeks now so we will keep our fingers crossed. She has been gracious enough to share the light. She keeps in on for about five minutes and when she falls asleep I move it to his room because he cannot sleep without a light.
I really hope that Mobi comes up with an improved version as I cannot get my son to agree to any other night light! We just hope the one we have will last long enough to see that happen.

Customer Review: Nice night-light
Summary: 3 Stars

In trying to calm my toddler at night, I was looking for a good bedtime buddy to help comfort him when he is resisting sleep. I read reviews on glo-worms and found that, unlike my old one from the 80's which was great, the new ones are loud and annoying. I came across the TykeLight - yay! It's really cute looking and from the product images of children cuddling with the glowing figure, you might think that the surface is soft; it's not. It is hard plastic. It is also much brighter than I was hoping. The colors cycled through as promised - we've never had a problem with that. I also love that it is rechargeable and doesn't take batteries (I'm so over batteries). One last little issue - the button to turn the light on is very tiny and when it's dark, can be confused with the charging plates or the timer signal. I didn't think my 20-month old would ever get the hang of it. He did, and can fiddle around and turn it on but, then it's too bright and he wants to hide it under the covers. The red light is the darkest so I tend to keep it on red when he has it in bed but, it looks a little creepy to me as opposed to the other colors. :) This has now become MY toy, to change diapers at night or find things in the dark.

Customer Review: Wonderful portable night light, but short working life
Summary: 3 Stars

I purchased the Mobi TykeLight Portable GloMate in July 2009. It worked as advertised with only a slight issue with the charging base - had to play around with the GloMate by jiggling it on the base to make sure it was charging properly. Once the green LED charge indicator came on and stayed on, it was fully charged.

I would take the Portable GloMate for short trips out of town with me or even on weekend camping trips. The GloMate would hold a charge long enough for several days as long as I used it sparingly or used the built-in 15-minute shutoff timer. I didn't even have to bring the charging base along for these trips away from home.

Unfortunately, my Portable GloMate quit working with no warning of impending failure just 13 months after purchase. It was fully charged, but the LED lamps all stopped working one evening, even after pushing the switch on the bottom to cycle through the lighting modes.

When it worked, I really liked this portable night light and would have ordered another one if not for its unacceptably short working life. At the price of the Portable GloMate, it needs to last at least 3 years to justify a replacement purchase.

Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?)
My kids love this light. I'm not sure how good of a nightlight it will be, but it's already been a great toy.

Since the lights are LED it's cool to the touch and as noted in the description it can be set into different color modes. You can set the "blue" mode to turn off after 15 minutes. My kids pretty much want it on "rainbow" where it switches colors. The charging base is great, but this is where the nightlight part breaks down for me: I've got two little boys and there is no way they aren't going to take that light off that stand and run off with it. Okay, if I really wanted to use it as a nightlight I could put it up high, but I'm having enough fun watching them use it as a toy. They have put it through the "can a toddler break it" test and it has come through with shining colors. Um, no pun intended there.

All in all a great little toy, or nightlight depending on what you want to use it for.
