Baby Products Reviews of Mobi TykeLight Portable GloMateCustomer Review: AM Summary: 1 Stars
We've gone through three of these lights and finally gave up. The first one worked for a few days, then flickered a little for a few hours and died completely. I called to exchange it and had a very difficult time trying to get it exchanged. When the replacement arrived three weeks later (and I had to pay return shipping for the original) the new light lasted almost 3 weeks. I was doing everything right. Not leaving it on the charging base constantly, allowing the battery to die completely once a week to prevent cell memory, allowing it to charge fully again before use. Then one of the colors stopped working. Okay, we can live without green, no big deal. Two days later blue stopped working. Within a week it would not come on at all anymore. I again paid return shipping and had it exchanged. The new light arrived and seemed to work fine. Until day 39. It would only work on one color that night and the following night would not come on at all. I was not able to exchage or return it since it held on until just after the 30 day mark. I will NEVER buy another Mobi product. I ended up out $30 bucks for the light, $25 bucks for all the return shipping, countless hours on the phone with the nonexistent customer service dept., and my child was left brokenhearted since he absolutely loved the light when it did work. Great idea, extremely poor execution.
Customer Review: Great Idea but doesn't last long Summary: 3 Stars
I saw this and thought it was so cute and a great idea to address the night light issues I think we all have as parents. I bought this for my 3 year old as a Christmas present and was so excited to get it all charged up for her. Everything seemed to work good for about 6 weeks. The light stopped working after using it and no matter what we did to try to recharge it, nothing worked. So, now I have a "cute" night light that doesn't work and we've had to resort back to using the old stand-by you get at your local hardware store. It's still sits on my daughter's dresser only because I haven't pitched it yet. I'm pretty disappointed in this product and never like to spend money on something that stops working soon after it's purchased. I suppose with all of the other reviews, it's 50-50 whether or not it will work for any given family. I would be very cautious before purchasing this again and if I did purchase it again, I would certainly keep all of the packaging and invoice that came with it for a speedy return should it stop working again. Unfortunately, all of that got thrown out with the rest of the Christmas wrapping paper and boxes. Too bad. I could certainly use that money on something more worthwhile. Bottom line: if you order this, keep the packaging and invoice handy - you may need it sooner than you think.
Customer Review: cute nightlight Summary: 5 Stars
Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?)
I'm giving this 5 stars because I think it's a really cute idea for a nightlight, and because ours has worked just fine for us so far. (I've seen lots of other reviews saying theirs didn't hold up; I'll change my review if ours breaks too easily, but for now I'm not taking that into account.) The color-changing mode is fun to watch, even for adults. I think it's neat to have a nightlight that older kids can have in the bed with them, and the option to dim after 15 minutes is a smart one.
Ours is for our 7-month-old, but I think Amazon really has it miscategorized as a "Baby" item. The package clearly states it's for 2 years and up. Our son is fascinated by his Tykelight and loves to hold it, but of course we only let him have it when he's closely supervised. However, his fascination with it has helped in a few situations where we really wanted to keep him content. There's no reason it couldn't be in a nursery as a nightlight, but I think most babies sleep better without a nightlight. It's really not enough light to change a middle-of-the-night diaper, either.
Customer Review: "Mobi" is a hit with my 5-year old! Summary: 5 Stars
"Mobi", as my daughter has named her new night-light, is a great tool for overcoming fear of the dark and associated "monsters". Each night at bedtime I simply lift Mobi off of her (ours is a girl, of course) charging base and then set it back down. This activates the 15-minute timer feature and sets off Mobi to shine a beautiful, restful blue glow. Over the next 15 minutes, Mobi slowly dims until it shuts off. It's easy for a child to get more light if they want by simply lifting Mobi up again and placing it back down, to activate another 15 minutes of blue light. If my daughter needs to get up during the night, she grabs Mobi and it gives off enough light so that she can find her way to the bathroom by herself. When I asked my daughter what would help her sleep during a recent overnight in a hotel, she said "Mobi!". Sure enough, Mobi did the trick. Although it isn't a soft product, it has a very pleasant feel to it and is completely child-friendly. We are very satisfied with this product. **Update 1/25/2010 - Poor Mobi bit the dust. After about 2 1/2 mos. Mobi simply stopped lighting up, just as other reviewers have reported. What a disappointment. Mobi is thankfully under the 90 day warranty so back she goes to the Corporate Headquarters. Hope the replacement lasts longer!
Customer Review: Excellent product! Summary: 5 Stars
We thought that we had baby proofed beyond belief, however, our toddler could not even have a regular $2.00 plug in nightlight in the bedroom because one day he felt the need to remove it from the outlet and unscrew the bulb and put it in his mouth!!! Yikes!!! Glad I caught that on the baby monitor!
Thankfully, Tykelight introduced this efficient, yet oddly appealing and comforting nightlight and all is well with the world ;-) I had first purchased the battery operated tykelight but the rechargeable is the way to go since I was only getting the approx. 24 hrs. of use on low instead of the stated 100 hour use out of the batteries, whether energizer or duracell.
Mobi is also an excellent company that stands behind their customers and their products. They were very accommodating when I let them know about the performance of the battery operated light. I'm buying another for our six year old and as gifts for friends!
Oh, we had a problem where he was pushing the button and unknowingly changing the setting to shut off in fifteen minutes which caused him to wake and cry when he discovered the room dark at midnight, so I placed it on top of a shelf in the room and it's works wonders.
