Baby Products Reviews of Miracle Blanket -Baby Swaddling Blanket -BeigeCustomer Review: Difficult to Use Summary: 1 Stars
To all future mommies, don't buy this product. You don't want to spend the few hours you do get to sleep trying to wrangle this thing on a newborn or young infant. Swaddling is great at night, when you're trying to get the baby to sleep on her own and you want to make it as easy as possible for you. I bought three swaddle blankets, the Kiddapotamus, the Miracle Blanket and the Halo Swaddleme Sack Micro Fleece. I have a Winter Baby, and the only one I used consistently that actually got my baby to sleep was the Halo, it's so easy to use, just zip and velcro that you can do it in the dark in your bedroom after night feedings. And the micro fleece fabric prevents him/her from wriggling out. I have an 8 week old and she is now sleeping 4-5 hour chunks at night. This helped me not disrupt her so that she could fall straight back to sleep after having her night feed. She actually only used the Swaddleme from week 3 - week 6, but it got her hooked to good sleeping habits that when she outgrew the thing, she continues to sleep well. My neighbor also used the Halo, and her 2 month old was sleeping 6 hours straight. Anyways just buy the Halo one, it's simpler and easier and won't drive you nuts.
Customer Review: Wonderful Swaddle Blanket Summary: 5 Stars
My newborn son is apparently Houdini in disguise, because he was able to wiggle out of every swaddle blanket we had used for my daughter (who is now 2.) I had heard about the Miracle Blanket and was desperate to try something that would work. It is wonderful! The interior flaps keep his arms inside the blanket but it does not seem to be super constrictive. You can swaddle as tightly as you want, although the instructions stress that you need to pull the blanket into a very tight swaddle--otherwise you will have loose fabric everywhere and that is extremely unsafe. But for the interior arm flaps, you can leave them a tiny bit looser if you want.
He doesn't much like the process of being swaddled in the blanket but goes to sleep immediately afterward and stays asleep for a big chunk of time.
I haven't been able to fold up the foot pocket for a tighter swaddle like the instructions recommend for the smaller, younger babies but that hasn't been much of a problem. Only twice has my son been able to kick his leg free and I'm sure that was my fault for not pulling the fabric tight enough. Overall it is a great product and I highly recommend it.
Customer Review: This works but try not to get too dependent on it Summary: 5 Stars
My husband and I watched The Happiest Baby on the Block DVD before our son was born and we started swaddling him on day 1. Every time he made a peep, we re-swaddled him. We had a couple of Kiddopotamus velcro swaddlers but we found that he was able to get his arms up. When I heard about this swaddle blanket I knew that he would never be able to get his arms up so we bought it. We only used this at night and we used it until he was about 5 months old. One night, we stopped swaddling cold turkey. It was easy for me and my son to give up the swaddling but not so easy for my husband - he was convinced that swaddling was the only reason our son was sleeping at night.
My opinion: this swaddle blanket really does what it's supposed to! No baby could ever wiggle out of it. The downside is that the parents may start to depend on it and be reluctant to give up the swaddling.
I bought one of these for a pregnant friend but she wasn't in to swaddling her baby and never used it. For that reason, I don't think it's a very good baby gift. Some parents and babies just never need to do the swaddling thing.
Customer Review: MIRACLE is exactly what it is! Summary: 5 Stars
From generations of mothers and Dr. Karp's recent book, I was told how swaddling would be a necessity for comforting and assisting my baby to sleep -- and how they were 100% right.
While any blanket would do the first week or so, after that -- all bets were off. This blanket successfully holds in the arms, stays at the appropriate level to not be moved over the nostrils or face, wraps around the baby with allowing some give in the material to accomodate normal wiggling of the baby without coming undone, grows with the child's size and length due to its design, and avoids the noise and discomfort of the velcro type wraps. We put our baby to sleep with one every night since he was just a week or so old --- he is now 10 weeks and gets a smile on his face every night and puts his arms at his side in preparation for the swaddle before bed time. I don't know what we would we have done without this blanket as we were not able to find any other substitute that works nearly as well. I fully intend on making this the gift of choice for any future baby showers I attend.
Customer Review: Not a Miracle, Seems Unsafe Summary: 1 Stars
Yes, yes, I read Karp's Happiest Baby on the Block, and yes, I believe that swaddling itself is the miracle-not this blanket. I had a few swaddlers from First YearsThe First Years Easy-Wrap Swaddler - Yellow (much cheaper and worked better), but my son outgrew them. So, I decided to try the Miracle Blanket. I wish I hadn't spent the money. First, the price is very high. Second, it's a long blanket that wraps--there are no closures (velcro, snaps, etc), so he tends to slip down into the blanket, and the arm flaps bunch up in his armpits (uncomfortable). What's worse, the blanket unravels and wraps around his neck. Scary! He gets very hot in this blanket (despite central A/C and ceiling fan--his back and neck are drenched!), and overheating is another risk factor for SIDS. Oh, and forget about "quick" middle-of-the-night diaper changes--it's nearly impossible to get his legs out of the bottom pouch, so wrestling him out of the blanket wakes him up. Overall, I would not recommend this blanket.
