Baby Products Reviews of Miracle Blanket -Baby Swaddling Blanket -Beige

Customer Review: The. Best. Baby. Product. EVER.
Summary: 5 Stars

Every parent has that "one thing" that they would kiss the ground the inventors' feet walked on. This, my friends, was our "one thing."
I saw this on babysteals .com and looked up Amazon reviews to see if it was any good. Some people were horrified at the price, others swore by it. Since it was on sale (turns out, the pattern was printed on the wrong side, which is why it was probably discounted), I decided to go for it.
I cannot shut up about how amazing they are ever since.
Our baby was born at 8 lb., 5 oz. and she was big enough for it. I've been giving these as baby shower gifts, and have heard from a couple friends whose newborns were tiny and were a little enveloped by it. But our little girl fit it just fine from the beginning. We tried all the blankets from the get-go: the Halo, which had Velcro that crept up on her face and I found myself pinning it all over the place to make sure it didn't ride up. Of course, this left me with a baby who was swaddled covered in safety pins. Seeing as I wasn't going for a rock-goth look, I ditched that blanket. The receiving blankets are great, and I can swaddle with the best of them, but she would always wiggle her way out of them. My husband was the one who tried the Miracle Blanket on her and came rushing in afterward to show me how great it fit: it was so snug and comfy she had stopped fussing. We soon learned to put her in a tee-shirt onesie (this was winter, even), and just swaddle her up. Eventually she learned that this meant it was nap/bed time, and would obligingly be nursed to sleep every time!
The trick is really making sure you put their shoulders ABOVE the blanket, so when you finish wrapping it, it doesn't get close to creeping toward their face. This was especially important for us as our baby had problems digesting and so we had her sleep in her little vibrating chair, which kept her kind of upright but also would have her sort of slide down it a bit in the night. Thus, it was crucial the blanket fit tight and snug and wouldn't budge. With this blanket, it wasn't a problem. We had three and used them in constant rotation. Finally, at about three months and a week or so (when she was in her crib lying flat at this point), she "kicked out" of the bottom portion. The next night I zipped her up in one of the long, conventional Halo sleepsacks, full of trepidation that she wouldn't sleep without the swaddle, but she adjusted just fine, maybe woke up one extra time.
So for all those new parents out there: worth the money!

Customer Review: 10 stars!!
Summary: 5 Stars

I would give this blanket 10 stars if I could! My daughter would only sleep in 2 hour chunks. When she turned 9 weeks old, I went in search of a larger swaddling blanket. My friend recommended the Miracle Blanket and since that day, it has been sweet dreams in my house! I documented her progress over the first week of using the miracle blanket. Here are my findings:

Night 1: 6 hours 41 minutes
Night 2: 8 hours
Night 3: 7 hours 45 minutes
Night 4: 2, 4 hour blocks (but this is because I knocked over some bottles in the recycling bin and woke her up at 4am....don't ask...... she was re-swaddled and passed out in no time)
Night 5: 9 hours!
Night 6: 8 hours, 31 minutes
Night 7: 8 hours, 41 minutes

My daughter is very tall. She was 20 1/2 inches at birth. When she started to outgrow the MB, I adjusted the blanket so that her shoulders would poke out of the top in order to provide more room for her feet at the bottom. The blanket also proved to be a success for naps! I was afraid that she would become to dependant on the MB, but I decided to press my luck and I continued to use the MB for as long as she would allow it. If you are reading this, you are probably sleep deprived and will understand! She started to wiggle out of the blanket and inch around her crib at night when she was 3 1/2 months old. This was her sign that she was ready to move on. I was completely amazed that she was able to maintain her awesome sleeping habit without the MB! She is now 4 1/2 months old, and she still sleeps an average of 9 hours a night. Her naps aren't as lengthy, but I can handle anything with a good night's sleep.

I feel that the Miracle Blanket helped to establish excellent sleep habits for my daughter. However, it does not work for all babies. This blanket is not an easy fix for everyone. If you are unsure if this blanket is for you, you should watch this swaddling video on y*u t*be. [...] It is identical to the way the MB works. However, the fabric of the MB is very stretchy. I think it makes a difference because it is so comfortable.

I hope that this blanket works for you! Sweet dreams!

Customer Review: Good but not a Miracle! Still short for long babies!
Summary: 3 Stars

I purchased this product for my 5-week old very active baby. He is an active kicker at night and, despite being normal height/weight (11 lbs, 23") has quickly outgrown his newborn Halo & Kiddopotomous/Summer Infant swaddlers. I purchased this based on the great recommendations and have been fairly disappointed...especially with the lofty price tag.

Pros:
1) It does keep your baby snuggly swaddled with very little chance of their arms breaking free. Highly resembles a straight-jacket but I know my baby isn't crazy! :-)
2) The design (no velcro) is great b/c it doesn't get tangled up on clothes, baby skin, laundry etc. Huge advantage over the Halo & Summer Infant brands
3) Material is light weight & cool enough to be used year round

Cons:
1) The dimensions of this aren't any longer than the Newborn Halo or Small Summer Infant sack!! Therefore, my 5-week old is already able to kick his legs and work his legs out the bottom. Within a few short weeks I doubt if he'll be able to put his legs straight!! This could cause problems as he gets stronger bc he could work the material up over his face.
2) The wrap mechanism (although a pro bc of the lack of velcro & using their weight to keep secure) can be tedious at first, especially for a newborn. You have to tuck the arms & wrap the material around the baby, so you're either tipping the baby up on its neck to tuck & wrap or lifting it up & balancing on one hand
3) Lack of upper-body movement. Because you have the arms so tightly bound but the legs can wiggle free, I feel like it might be confusing for the baby.

Well...my problem continues! I am going to try to Woombie big-baby design & see if that is better for my little man.

Customer Review: Use something easier to swaddle your baby
Summary: 2 Stars

Our baby won't sleep without being swaddled. She is now 5 months old. We have used everything out there, and this was our least favorite. After spending so much on it, I was disappointed that we only used it when every other swaddler we had was dirty.
Here's what I don't like:
1. It takes so long to get on. With a squirmy baby, she'll be out of it before you get done wrapping. It's really hard to wrap under the baby, and tuck here and there.
2. I don't like having her arms straight down where she can't move them at all. In the womb, she could move her arms.
3. The way the pouch is made, one side is lower than the other. She gets her leg out of the lower side consistently.

Our favorite swaddler by far is the Woombie. All you do is zip it up and snap the top, and you're done! And the baby can still move her arms and put them by her chest or whereever she wants, but it is tight enough that her hands can't bother her, and it is escape-proof. She can even suck on her fingers a bit through the fabric of the Woombie, which allows her to calm herself. This swaddler didn't even come close to the convenience and functionality of the Woombie. Unfortunately, the Woombie is almost as expensive as this. You could try the Swaddlepod first, which is similar to a Woombie but cheaper. I don't like it quite as much as the Woombie, but since it is only $10, it is worth a try.

Customer Review: Almost perfect
Summary: 4 Stars

I bought this after reading all the reviews and giving up on the other swaddling blankets I have been using for my 2 1/2 month baby. I had tried the Halo brand and DO NOT like the velcro because it is too noisy and catches on things when the baby moves around or when transferring him from and to bed. I also tried regular blankets, but they don't stay. So, I decided to try the Miracle Blanket since my baby sleeps better swaddled.

It probably would have worked great when he was younger, but he is a pretty strong little fellow and already at this age he can wiggle out of the blanket, no matter what I do and there's nothing to hold it secure. Also, one night I went in to feed him and the long piece that was wrapped tightly around his arms (over the other two little flaps that hold each of his arms), below his head, had moved up over his face as he had wiggled around and since nothing holds the long piece down it didn't stay down when he pushed up with his arms. This scared me pretty good, so I haven't dared to use it since.

Thus, I gave it four stars because I think it would work great up to two months old, but after that if your baby is strong enough to wiggle around it isn't safe. I think it needs some place on the front where you could tie it or tuck it in so that the large flap will stay put even if the baby does end up getting his arms out.
