Baby Products Reviews of Medela Swing Breast Pump

Customer Review: Weak pump and gets milk in the tubing
Summary: 1 Stars

What a huge waste of money. I have a Pump in Style Advanced which I love. But I leave it at work and one day, I was staying home sick when I realized that my baby was at daycare and my pump was at work and I was in trouble. So, I went out and dropped $150 on the Medela Swing. I was pleased with my purchase since I liked my pump in style so much and I thought this would be fine for very occasional use. First of all, the swing has increadibly weak suction. It took me over 30 minutes on each side just to get my breasts down to a comfortable level, not even to empty them completely! I shudder to think what this one sick day of pumping will do to my supply for the next few days. Plus, the little white flange doesn't open and close with each pump like it's supposed to. As a result, your milk gets trapped in the little yellow flap and then flows up into the tubing! If you are buying a breast pump, please please please shell out the extra money for the Pump In Style.

Customer Review: A good buy

I am a stay at home mom who wanted a good electric pump that would last, but I didn't need the full on double pump like the pump in style or similar type things as I did not need to pump every day. Most of the electric pumps that were less expensive had many reviews claiming they broke quickly, and I did not want to waste money on something that would break. This pump doesn't cost much more, and also has excellent reviews. It has worked great for me, is easy to clean and easy to use. I have not had any trouble with the flap part falling out mid pumping, so perhaps they have upgraded the product since that was an issue. It is a great mid-grade pump and at an excellent price. It was definitely worth the money for me. I've had it five months now and I've never had any trouble with it and have always been able to pump adequate amounts of milk with it. I'd recommend it to anyone who plan on only pumping once a day or less, but still wants a good electric pump.

Customer Review: Dont waste your money - Very Dissappointing
Summary: 1 Stars

I purchased this pump a month and a half ago and it is barely working. When i first started pumping it worked really well and i would get at least 20 ounces a day. Now it takes at least two hours for 4 ounces to be pumped.I believe the problem is either with the suction (tubing to flimsy and narrow) or the small size of motor that cannot handle even average capacity of pumping. For the amount of money spent is certaintly is a dissappointment. I intended to breastfeed my baby exclusively using the pump as my backup when i return to work and now after spending all that money i also have to buy formula for my baby in these hard economic times. The manufacturers need to revisit this product or reduce the price and its false claims. This is a legitimate review. I am from Trinidad, West Indies. If you know of any other more reliable pump please contact i am desparately in need of one. Please dont make the same mistake i made. Save your hard earned money!

Physician and mother of a 5 year-old and 7 month-old. I used the double pump-in-style advanced for both kids (until 10 months for the 1st and so far 7 months for the second) and love it. We went on vacation without my pump a few months ago. My baby got hand-foot-mouth virus, with blisters in her mouth and stopped nursing for 2 days, and the store where we were only had this Swing pump, so I decided to try it. It works great, is lightweight and compact. It's a bit pricy, but cheaper than the double PIS advanced. For me, it's a nice back-up pump and great to bring on vacations. I've had it for about 3 months now and probably use it about once a week. I still use my PIS advanced for my everyday, at work, etc. Would still recommend the PIS advanced for any working mom who is serious about nursing for at least 6 months, but for the part-time worker or stay at home mom, or for a back-up to the PIS advanced, the Swing is perfect.

Customer Review: I know you are not supposed to love your pump...but I do!
Summary: 5 Stars

My baby was small (4 pounds 14 ounces) when born and was not able to nurse well. I established my supply on a rental Symphony from the hospital. When it came time to return the Symphony I debated whether to continue renting it or to purchase my own pump. The purchase price of pumps really scared me off, but I considered the Swing because it is intended for daily use, which is what I needed, but was not as pricey as the Pump In Style. I LOVE THE SWING. THe Swing is as efficient, if not more, as the SYmphony. THe fact that it is a single pump does not bother me at all because it is so efficient I am done pumping in 20 minutes - both sides. It is so lightweight and portable that you can go anywhere. After a month of being tied to the huge Symphony every three hours, it was a wonderful and welcome change to be able to go places with the pump. I am a full time working mom and currently use the Swing every day. I fully recommend this!
