Baby Products Reviews of Medela Swing Breast Pump

Customer Review: Great single pump
Summary: 4 Stars

I just got this pump last night and I love it. I have been using the mini electic pump by Medela up until now and in comparison this is heaven. My flow is quick so I do not feel the need to own a double pump. (I can get 6 oz. in about 15 minutes). If you only want a single pump and are debating between this and the mini electic, spend the extra money and get this one!

The Swing is nice and quiet (yes it still makes some noise, but not much). You will be able to watch TV, have a conversation with your husband all while using this. The mini electric sounds like you turned on a vacuum.

The extraction of milk feels much more natural with this than the mini electic.

Controls are easy to use, the mini electric has a dial, but you can't see it while pumping so its hard to know if you are turning the suction up or down until you feel the difference at your breast.

Overall I think this is an excellent single pump, I didn't give it five stars because I have not used it extensively so I don't know about the lasting power of the motor.

Customer Review: Just got my Swing!
Summary: 5 Stars

My Medela Swing was delivered yesterday. I've so far used it once, and it worked SO well! I had been using my $45 Evenflo pump and thought that worked "ok". Boy was I wrong! The Evenflo pump is like a Jet Engine compared to this pump, and there is hardly ANY suction with the Evenflo at all, despite the embarrassing noise. You get what you pay for...
This pump is easy to use and easy to clean. I like that it works with my Medela manual pump parts. There were a lot of "extras" in the box; a storage bag, several flappy things for the valve, a bottle, nipple, nipple cover, bottle storage cap, instruction manual, and breastfeeding/pumping assistance manual, and other things!
The only thing I'm a bit disappointed in is that this pump says it wont help me increase my low milk supply. I wish I had seen that before I purchased it, as that was the main reason for the purchase. HOWEVER, I am going to be using this more frequently because it is easier, more comfortable, and QUIETER! So we will see if it does help despite saying that it wont... All around a wonderful purchase!

Customer Review: Great Pump!
Summary: 5 Stars

I have used the pump in style with my first baby. I didn't like how big and noisy it was and how many parts I needed to wash. I realized that I prefer to pump one side at the time, because pumping both simultaneously caused leaking from the other breast when nursing my baby. So I got rid of it, and now for my 2nd baby I have bought the swing. I like that it is tiny, you can strap it on you pants and be completely free to move. I use batteries so I can pump anywhere, on the couch reading a book for example. It is super quite, the noise is kind of soothing actually. Very few parts. Quick pumping, I can do 4oz in 5 minutes or so, being able to adjust the suction is a great plus. The soft breast-shield included is great. I didn't find the charger attachment to be a problem at all, it stays in place just fine. If you want a great, portable pump at a reasonable price you should get this one. I am returning to work full time soon and I am not dreading the time I will spend using this pump at all. One more thing: if you want to pump in glass bottles, the evenflo ones fit the pump.

Customer Review: I prefer this over my pump in style!
Summary: 4 Stars

When i first started looking at pumps, I wanted to get the pump in style because of the good reviews and I figured i'd want to double pump since i would be working full time eventually. I ended up getting the swing instead to save some money, and LOVED IT. The first week it was hard to get much milk out, but that's normal. After that my milk would let down SUPER fast with the initial "rapid sucking" feature. It was small and lightweight, and portable enough to be carried in my normal purse! I went ahead and got the pump in style after i went back to work full time so I could cut down on the time i spent pumping.... and was soo disappointed! The suction doesn't feel as strong, it is much bulkier, it is harder to set up, and you dont have the battery powered option. Sometimes you just cannot get to an outlet! I've pumped with my swing in the ladies room at a movie theater before (date night doesn't mean a break from your breasts!) and you definitely can't do that with the huge pump in style. Love this product. Works wonders, I pump in 15 minutes flat, both sides.

Customer Review: Perfect Pump
Summary: 5 Stars

I am a stay-at-home-mom, but I pump several times a week for doctors appointments, trips away from home when breastfeeding is inconvenient, to have a drink, etc. I had an Avent Isis (hand pump) with my other two kids, but it took a long time to get enough milk to fill a 5oz bottle and my hand was always sore after pumping. This time I intended to rent a double hospital grade Medela since I'd used one for a couple of months with my first baby and loved it, but it was cheaper to buy the Swing. I honestly think this works just as well (if not better) than the hospital grade. I can get at least 5oz in about 10 minutes or less, about half the time it took with the Isis. My 3 week old took the Medela bottles easily, much more easily than my first two children took the Avent. There has been no nipple confusion. I also like that the plastic in Medela bottles is safer than Avent and most other brands. I think the Swing pump would work well for both moms who need to pump on occasion or those who must pump several times a day. It is also very compact.
