Baby Products Reviews of Medela Swing Breast PumpCustomer Review: swing pump Summary: 1 StarsThis pump is absolutely horrible. I hate using it. This pump leaks, eats up batteries, and is an all out nuissance. I can't use the plug because it will not stay in the pump. It is definitely not worth the money. I wish I could return it. I had an avent pump and loved it. Wish i had bought another one.
Customer Review: Pump good for the price Summary: 4 StarsI think this pump does a nice job. It's comfortable and relatively quick. I wish the pump head was not opaque plastic, because it's hard to see when the milk is flowing. But I've been happy with it over all, especially for the price.
Customer Review: I prefer this over my pump in style! Summary: 4 StarsWhen i first started looking at pumps, I wanted to get the pump in style because of the good reviews and I figured i'd want to double pump since i would be working full time eventually. I ended up getting the swing instead to save some money, and LOVED IT. The first week it was hard to get much milk out, but that's normal. After that my milk would let down SUPER fast with the initial "rapid sucking" feature. It was small and lightweight, and portable enough to be carried in my normal purse! I went ahead and got the pump in style after i went back to work full time so I could cut down on the time i spent pumping.... and was soo disappointed! The suction doesn't feel as strong, it is much bulkier, it is harder to set up, and you dont have the battery powered option. Sometimes you just cannot get to an outlet! I've pumped with my swing in the ladies room at a movie theater before (date night doesn't mean a break from your breasts!) and you definitely can't do that with the huge pump in style. Love this product. Works wonders, I pump in 15 minutes flat, both sides.
Customer Review: Don't buy used!--you risk HIV and Hep-B Summary: 4 StarsI own the Medela Swing; it's review is below. But first, please read about used breast pumps.
I purchased the Pump in Style used. I opened up the pump to clean the diaphragm and found it covered in mold! Then I did my research; google "FDA breast pump" and you'll find the FDA's website. It turns out all consumer breast pumps are open systems. The milk actually aspirates and travels through the tubing to the pump. According to the FDA, HIV and Hepatitis can be transmitted from one breastpump user to the next! Thankfully, I found out about this before using my pump. However, you CAN buy used pumps if they are hospital grade (e.g., Medela Lactina or Symphony). They are closed systems and perfectly safe for multiple users. I bought a Lactina off Craig's List and I love it. Good luck, and don't give up on breastfeeding! It's worth it for your baby!
The Swing is a great little pump, but expression from it is slow for me. I love that I can take it on trips, in the car, etc. I used it exclusively for the first four months. Now that I have a Lactina, I really wish that I had bought the Lactina first (the expression is so much quicker: 3-4 ounces in 15 min as compared to 45 min to 1 hour with the Swing). However, I think I would have bought the Swing, too, because it is so portable.
Customer Review: Great! Love it. Low price for Medela quality. Summary: 4 StarsI rarely pump anymore, but I needed to for long road trips that my son slept through. This pump is incredible! It has the Medela gentleness and natural suction rythym. I highly recommend it.
