Baby Products Reviews of Medela Pump in Style Advanced Breast PumpCustomer Review: This pump saved me! Summary: 5 Stars
I'm a first time mom, and in the hospital we had some latch problems. Despite repeated efforts, by the time we left the hospital 4 days later (after a c-section), we had not successfully latched on and my baby was HUNGRY! I ordered this pump, and was able to pump enough, even before my milk came in, to feed my baby by bottle. My baby is now 11 weeks old, and I've continued to bottle feed him breast milk. There are those who say that you can't establish and maintain milk production with a pump, but I disagree. This pump helped me accomplish that very thing. I've gone back to work now, and I find it easy to use and carry (I have the advanced model in the backpack, which is not currently carried on this site). It is quick, efficient, and painless. I highly, highly recommend this pump. It is well worth the money (and the warranty is longer than on a lot of cheaper pumps). I've not had any problems at all, but I read a lot of reviews about this pump and cheaper pumps, and it appears that when it comes to customer serivce, Medela is at the top of the list. Fortunately, I've never had to use them. I can't say enough good things about this pump!
Customer Review: Couldn't live without it Summary: 5 Stars
I have the Pump In Style Advanced Backpack, and I truly couldn't live without it. Or at least, my baby couldn't! In less than 10 minutes, I can pump out 10 or more ounces. It doesn't hurt, and it's easy to use. I pump directly in to the Dr. Brown's bottles with it, they screw on and fit just as well as the ones Medella includes, and my baby prefers them. Other brands of bottles also screw in. I don't find it to be too heavy, probably because the backpack is well padded and has good support. There are ample pockets to put bottles in, and everything else you need.
One odd thing-I find the settings work better for me in reverse of the way they're intended-I use the letdown button right away and put it on the faster mode later.
Another tip-hospitals will often give you a set of Medella breast shields and tubes(for free after your labor) that fit on this machine. Ask the nurse for the set, even if you already have all the accessories that comes with this, because it's nice to have extras if one set is drying. I use the Avent microwave bottle sterilizer at home and the Medella steam bags at work and both work great!
Customer Review: All the difference! A must have! Summary: 5 Stars
The advanced is worth the money! Make a difference in your life and your baby's - purchase this equipment. After 2 wonderful months at home with my daughter, heading back to work was, to say the least, difficult. Continuing to nurse with the help of the advanced pump-in-style, made me feel like I was still close to her even though I was at work. Each day I take her to the sitter, with her ample supply of breast milk, I am comforted knowing she is getting the best nutrition I can provide her.The system is easy to use and very comfortable while pumping. The stylish carrier works well to camouflage the fact you are carrying a breast pump into work. The pump is a little loud so I recommend, once you have the tubs and electrical outlet hooked up and the pump on, you zip the opening up as much as possible. It significantly decreases the noise output. Go ahead and buy the vechile adapter if you are going to do any traveling (with baby or for work). I didn't and now I see that I need it. I strongly recommend getting the hands-free system as well. Using this at work allows me to continue to work at the computer while pumping.
Customer Review: Working Mom MUST Summary: 5 Stars
This is the best pump ever. I heard that pumps aren't really worth it and that a lot of people don't get their money's worth with a pump. However, I had no choice as I was going back to work and formula was not an option. I had heard about this pump before, but now that I have it I have to say- I don't know how working moms do without this. I can see why they may stop b-feeding without this easy, handy, extremely efficient pump when away from baby! I first used this when baby was about 1 week old (pumped whenever I was full and baby was not hungry), and I am still using it every day 1-2 times a day (Baby almost 6 mos. old). I can pump a full 7-11 oz in 8 MINUTES!! Set up, pumping, and cleanup takes me 15 total! From what I understand regular P-N-S takes 15 pumping time, which isn't much diff. But when I have a mtg. in 15, I can always make time to pump. Medela customer service is great, too. I had a problem w/the faceplate and called their service line. W/no hassle/proof of purchase or anything, she quickly sent me a replacement face plate that came w/specific easy instructions.
Customer Review: worth the money Summary: 5 Stars
With all the money you'll save on breatfeeding vs. formula feeding, this pump is worth every penny. Double or single, it pumps quickly and is easy to use and travel with. My only complaint is the hand pump that comes with it - it's difficult to use, but the electric is all most people will need. (I tried to use the hand pump on a car trip - next time I'll get the vehilce adapter!) The electric pump is easy to travel with and the bag has lots of space and is lightweight. I also got two extra pump attachments at the hospital and having 4 is great (less cleaning), so it's worth checking to get a couple extra (you can always buy them as well). This pump allowed me to feed my son only breastmilk for the past 4 months and store lots of frozen milk. Going one year will be no problem at all. It fits all standard size bottles, so there's no need to buy the expensive bottles (they don't do anything better than the regular bottles). It's money well spent. (If you're military, the AAFES website has this item and will save you $$)
