Baby Products Reviews of Medela Pump & Save Breastmilk Bags - 50 packCustomer Review: Sturdy, high quality bags Summary: 4 Stars
I think these bags are great. I've been using them for 3 months and have only had one leak, which happened because I dropped the bag (full of frozen milk) on the kitchen floor. I agree with other reviewers that it's silly the perforations that allow you to detach the bag from the pump shield doesn't continue all the way along the bag. Simple fix: instead of detaching the bag using the perforation, simply break the yellow tape that loops around the neck of the shield. Seal the zip-top. Then rip off the top using the perforations - you'll find it's extremely easy to do now and rips off in one clean, straight line. I've never had a spill, leak, or rip doing it this way.
Customer Review: Better than bottles but not by much Summary: 2 Stars
I bought this product to limit the number of bottles I would need to purchase. The bags aren't as easy to use as I hoped. I have to press the 'seal' a handful of times to make sure it's completely closed. When the bag is reopened, it's cumbersome to get milk out without tearing the bag completely or spilling the contents. The measuring on the bags is an approximate measurement (as stated on the bags) and that's the last thing you want to think about during the middle of the night when you're either filling the bags or trying to reopen them. Overall, the product is better and cheaper than using bottles but still needs vastly improved in price and functionality.
Customer Review: Love these bags! Summary: 5 Stars
I started out pumping and thought I would store all of my milk in Medela's bottles. When I realized how much milk I would need to store, I quickly realized that would cost me an arm and a leg (the bottles run about 20 bucks for 4!) and came upon these little wonders. They are made of a thick polyethylene plastic (safe for long-term storage) and you can't beat the zip-loc style closure compared with other tie bags...those scared me, every drop truly is precious. Granted, they are a bit awkward at first because you are dealing with a container that is much less sturdy than the plastic bottles most women pump into but it works well once you get used to it.
Customer Review: Not as good as I had hoped for Summary: 3 Stars
I found these bags to be hard to tear straight on the perforation. Also, they have a very small area to write on. They do stand up and seal well and are pretty easy to attach to the breast shields. I was using the Medela bottles to pump in and then putting it into the Gerber storage bags. I thought it would be easier to pump straight into the bag while at work, but later realized that pumping straight into the bag does not allow you to get an accurate measurement of how much milk you have pumped. So, I am back to pumping into the bottles and then using these bags for storage. I think I will just buy the cheaper Gerber bags when these are gone.
Customer Review: I would recommend... Summary: 4 Stars
I'm not sure how people are measuring their milk, but these bags are dead on. I put a bag on a liquid food scale and filled it to the 4 oz mark and it weighed exactly 4 oz.
My only issues with this bag are that the area to write on is small (you can only write well with a Sharpie or other permanent marker (ball point and roller ball pens don't write well)) and I have had to strap break on me a few times, which was inconvenient, but did not cause any spills as I was holding the neck of the shield at the time. I will continue to purchase and recommend these bags while advising about those two (what I consider) minor issues. :)
