Baby Products Reviews of Medela Pump & Save Breastmilk Bags - 50 packCustomer Review: Photo is misleading. Summary: 1 Stars
This is my first Amazon review. I usually don't write reviews but I wanted to warn other mothers that they may not get what they are expecting. I expected to receive the medela bag represented in the photo with the yellow tape/strap that wraps around the pump. However, I got a different version of the bag which has "easy-connect adapters". To be fair, the description of the product does indicate this. So pay attention to details! Easy? Not really. These new bags are, in my opinion, more troublesome to use. It requires the use of a plastic connector between the pump & the bag which is yet another piece that needs to be washed & sterilized. Futhermore, it feels more precarious to me as the bag dangels on the connector hooks. Look, I don't know about you, but I have spilled milk while pumping a number of times. It's easy to do when you're zonked from little sleep. The last thing I want to do is feel nervous it'll spill while pumping AND have to do more dishwashing. It's also messier when you pull the pump out. Anyway, I hope some of you see this so you're not surprised like I was. The worst part is that I ordered 5 boxes! I've never returned anything on Amazon but I'm going to have to this time. So frustrating...
Customer Review: Don't Buy from Breakout Bras!!! Summary: 3 Stars
I purchased this through Amazon from the retailer Breakout Bras. Over a week later it never came in...even though the shipping date said it would be a few days. When I contacted Breakout Bras they were rude and kept telling me to ask the post office. All the post office told me was that I needed to file a missing mail report but this did not mean I would get my product. When I called back Breakout Bras they basicly told me too bad....and refused to send me a replacement. Their customer service rep was very rude and when I asked to speak to a supervisor she placed me on hold then hung up! I was very upset and felt I should not have to pay for their poor shipment policy. It is not my problem that they are too cheap to ship via UPS or Fedex where a signature is needed and less likely to lose mail. By this time my milk supply had decreased drasticly because I was not pumping enough due to limited storage. I ended up going to Target and buying the same product for $3 more. I wish I had known they sold them at Target before I placed the order. Then the product came the next day...too late...I had already opened the one from Target. Word of advice...forget the $3 savings and just buy from Target. Its not worth the hassle.
Customer Review: Great Storage & Great Thawing! Summary: 5 Stars
Since I was using a Medela Pump In Style, I just decided to stick with their bags. Unlike others, I have no major complaints about this product.
I find the plastic to be solid and strong enough to withstand the temperature of my deep freezer without issues. Yet it is pliable enough for me to adjust it to get a good reading of the ounce markings on the side. It also lends itself to thawing quickly quite well.
As for issues with closing the bags, I am not sure why so many women are having difficulties. Maybe it is because they are trying to complete it one-handed while holding their children. To me, if you can close a Ziploc bag, you can close the Medela bags. I've had no trouble opening them again after they have been thawed either.
The strap is just a piece of sticky paper with one side coated with a thin layer of some sort of plastic. If you are moving around while pumping, it isn't going to hold up under all that movement. However, if you're still and not overfilling the bag (past 5 ounces), the strap shouldn't break on you.
I will state this is one of the pricier bags out there, but if you can find a seller who offers it cheaper, go for it and buy in bulk.
Customer Review: Where are Medela bags manufactured? Summary: 3 Stars
I've been trying to get information from their customer service about where these bags are manufactured without much success. If you read the box carefully, it says only printed and packaged in the USA. IT DOES NOT READ MADE IN THE USA, but merely says manufactured exclusively for Medela. For all I know, this 'exclusive' manufacturer might be sitting in China (not that it neccesarily means sub-standard manufacturing practises)
The first time I called Medela's customer service, they could not provide me the location of the manufacturer. I was put on hold several times and finally asked to leave my phone # saying they will get back with the information... No one did. I called again after a couple of weeks asking what happened and this time was told that the packaging says made in the US. When I pointed out that the packaging only says printed and packaged in the USA, the customer service agent insisted they're made in the US. When asked if she can confirm this in writing, she refused to do so! I followed this with a letter to Medela asking for verifiable information about the place of manufacture such as a phone number of the plant and still haven't heard back... Something is very suspicious here...
Customer Review: Don't waste your money Summary: 1 Stars
I am really frustrated with this product. Let me specify my complaints:
1. Like other posters, I was drawn to the ease of pumping directly into a storage bag. However, I have now had my third bag leak- goodbye 4 ounces of milk and the lunch break I spent pumping it! I simply can't understand how these bags seal so badly. I am careful, and not an idiot, but nevertheless, they leak. Couldn't they at least put in a second seal, like the Lansinoh bags, as a backup?
2. The top part of the bag (the perforated area) tears too easily- there have been several occasions where the bag ripped as I was taking it off the pump flange and again, some milk spilled.
3. These bags incorrectly measure the amount of milk- by quite a bit. If the bag reads 4 ounces, you shouldn't count on more than 3.
4. These are no easier to assemble onto the pump than a bottle.
5. As others have noted, the bags do not hold as much milk as other brands.
6. Finally, these bags cost twice as much as competitors' products!
These bags irritate me so much that I have, for the first time ever, bothered to write a product review. Potential buyers beware!
