Baby Products Reviews of Medela Freestyle Breast PumpCustomer Review: Wow! Summary: 5 Stars
This pump is amazing! I had an older Medela model that was working fine until it fell out of the vehicle and broke. I had had my eye on the Freestyle for quite some time (I have two children, 3 months and 2 years), but wasn't sure it would be worth the extra money. After my older one broke, I overnighted the freestyle. At first I wasn't sure I had made the right decision - I had a hard time getting used to the two-phase expression and just using a different pump. BUT, once I got the hang of it and started using it in my daily life, I was more than impressed! I express almost all of my milk, so this pump goes with me wherever I go. It literally fits in your purse! The lithium battery works great - I haven't ever run out of power while out and about. I think it can last up to 3 hours of pumping time, which is about 12 sessions for me. The suction is more than most women need, and I found replacement parts at my local Target. I haven't tried the hands-free kit yet, but I have a bra-type top that I use for hands-free. Overall, I would (and have) recommend this pump to any nursing, working mom. It is the only way to go!
Customer Review: Terrific with only one suggested improvement Summary: 4 Stars
I thought long and hard about purchasing this. The cost seemed so high and I really wasn't sure it was worth it. I caved and I am glad I did. The hands free option is fantastic. If you buy a Medela Nursing Bra and use the same one each time it really makes the set up much faster and easier. It comes with Nursing Bra attachments for all other bras so the Medela bra isn't necessary but I prefer it. I like the fact that I can work on the computer fix meals and walk around while pumping which is critical with a two year old and an 8 week old. One improvement I would like to see is for it to be spill proof. When you are finished pumping and taking off everything you have to be very careful to keep it upright and when setting it down the flanges seem to make it top heavy and it will easily tip over. Ok, so I wasn't really thinking but I bent over to check on baby and out came all of the milk I had pumped so it can be very frustrating to lose any precious milk let alone the clean up.
I really recommend this especially if you plan to pump at work or have an older child. It really helps with multitasking.
Customer Review: "Pumped Up" Summary: 5 Stars
I have used the Medela Pump in Style and an Ameda Hospital Grade pump with my first two children, when I found the Freestyle (halfway through feeding my 2nd child). I LOVED the convenience of size, that it isn't loud when pumping, but mainly for the hands-free design. No need to clock out for pumping sessions at work because I could continue to do office/managerial work in my office. I could even make phone calls while pumping! The suction worked very well, enough so that I was able to donate to a milk bank. So now with (surprise) baby #3, just started using it again. Used it maybe 6-7 times, when pump lost power/suction even with power cord. I just got off the phone with customer service, and even though I am past the one year warranty by about 6 months (but because it was in storage for a year of that time), they offered to replace it without me even asking. They are even overnighting it since I am traveling out of state tomorrow. While I was surprised that it had stopped working, customer service really came through... I would strongly recommend (and have recommended) this pump to all pumping moms out there!
Customer Review: Great Pump!!! Summary: 4 Stars
This pump is great!!! I was using the pump in style advanced and decided I would try the free style. It is very light weight and portable and comes with less parts than the pump in style, making it easier to clean. I love that it is rechargable because the pump in style was killing me with 8 AA batteries. It comes in a nice shoulder bag and all the parts fit, where as the PIS backpack always seemed to be packed full and was extremely heavy. The only thing is the hands free parts are a little complicated at first but after a few trys I had it down pat. I use the Bravado nursing bras and it attaches great to them. I dreaded pumping for those long 15 minutes but now that I am hands free I find myself looking at the timer and it is 20 minutes or more. It is so convienent, you can do so many things while pumping. Last night I washed dishes and put my 2 year old in the bath (IMAGINE THAT) You do look alittle crazy withall the attachments hooked up but it is well worth it. I got this great pump for $[...] and free shipping so look around the internet before you purchase it for the outstanding price of $[...].
Customer Review: Best "splurge" purchase I made! Summary: 5 Stars
There's a lot of things we "need" to purchase on the arrival of a baby so naturally we need to be sure what we are spending our dollars on. I wasn't sure what to do about a breast pump but in the end I made a splurge purchase and got this. Wow, was it ever the right decision!
This is a fabulous pump! I had trouble post-partum with getting my milk to come in and to get the supply up. Using this pump saved my milk, my sanity and satisfied my son's food requirements.
It extracts the milk well. It's small and light. It plugs in to the wall to recharge or you can use it directly off the mains. The parts are easy to assemble and clean (important when you're operating on a severe lack of sleep!). The time counter is very handy (even my lactation consultant was impressed).
I have non-Medela bras (Emma-Jane) and the hands free kit works just fine with them (in repsponse to another reviewer who said they only work with Medela bras). There are a couple of different attachment types included so that you can try it with different types of bra fasteners.
