Baby Products Reviews of Medela Disposable Nursing Bra Pads - 60-pk.Customer Review: itchy and annoying early on, but improved with use Summary: 1 Stars
i started trying to use these even before i gave birth because i was leaking just a little bit. i quickly found that they are really uncomfortable and itched my skin badly. i thought maybe my breasts were just sensitive because of the pregnancy. but i used them again once i had my son and they remain very, very itchy! the outer edges of the pad are plastic and they rub against your skin--can't stand them! i'm still on the lookout for a brand that's considerably better, but so far the best disposable i've tried is avent (better than medela and lansinoh).
UPDATE: After trying many other brands, including the washable variety, I came back to these pads and found that they were actually the best out there. Many other brands are not cupped/pleated, so they just jut out to the sides, resulting in a bumpy appearance. These were the most discreet, it turned out, and over time, my breasts became less sensitive to the scratchiness of the plastic edges, to the point where I didn't even feel it anymore. I also used washable pads sometimes, which have the benefits of being environment-friendly and soft, although probably among the least discreet. If Amazon would let me, I would change the number of stars I gave this product to 3.
Customer Review: Would not buy again Summary: 2 Stars
Have tried 3 different brands now and I liek these the least. My breast leakinsane amounts throughout the day so no matter what pad I wear I have to change it every hour or so. I have to wear 2-3 pads on each breast regardless! Totally crazy I know!
These pads though when not soaked yet are like putting paper between my bra and breast so they're not comfortable at all and they crumple up a bit in places. The tape is pointless as they don't move around at all as did none of the others brands I tried. If you have a bra that fits a bra pad will stay in place. One other issue is and at the same time it's a positive I guess is that because these pads are kind of like a diaper in the sense of being absorbent and having that extra layer, you don't always know until you happen to touch one of the pads that it's completely soaked through for who knows how long! It's very obvious when one is soaked as it weight a whole lot more and feels like a dead jellyfish, but you only know this when you check it. I would not buy these again.
Customer Review: Keeps me dry, not bulky or itchy Summary: 5 Stars
It seems there are quite a mix of reviews about these nursing pads! I guess it's a very personal choice/preference when it comes to these kinds of products, but as for me, I like these nursing pads and in response to other comments I've seen:
- they don't make me itchy
- they don't show through my clothing and they aren't bulky
- they absorb really well (I leak a LOT) and don't feel wet, only heavy when they are full
- I change mine 2-3 times a day depending on how often baby nurses
- plastic back makes them waterproof; I've never had a leak through to my clothing
- they don't bunch and I don't even use the adhesive tab to stick them to my bra (or maybe that's why they don't bunch?)
- I do notice a smell kind of like B.O. when they've had milk in them for a few hours, but is that the pad or just the old milk? Not sure, as these are the only pads I've tried
A little about me: first-time mom, normally a C but with pregnancy and nursing I went up to a D
Customer Review: Super aggravating Summary: 1 Stars
The first problem I came across when using these pads was the packaging. There is printing on the wrapper that says "open" and on some of the packages, that printing correlates to a perforation. However, on most packages it doesn't. So, you end up ripping the plastic open and the yellow paint flakes off all over your hands. The next flaw with this product is the adhesive strip. There is only one and it is pretty small. So, when your nursing bra/tank is pressed up against you, the pad is in place no problem. However, every time you fold your bra/tank down to nurse the pad rolls up on itself so when you go to button up again you have to reach into your shirt and unroll the pad and put it back in place. This brings me to my third complaint. The more times you do this the cotton inside the plastic lining starts to get bunched up and gets lumpy under your shirt. Not well made. Would not recommend.
Customer Review: Could be designed much better Summary: 2 Stars
These pads are definitely due for some revamping. When women can buy nearly customized bras based on chest width and cup size, it's ridiculous to have a "one pad fits all" type of product. I have read other reviews and women complain about washable/reusable pads, but after trying everything out there, I would argue that washable pads:
*fit better
*look better from the outside (these look like you're stuffing with Kleenex)
*are a lot easier to put back in one-handed while holding a baby - no messing around with annoying adhesives and strange folds in the material
Disposable do tend to be better for women who leak a lot, but before settling on these pads, try both. I bought every kind out there, both reusable and disposable, and found some I swear by from Mimi Maternity. They fit well, aren't noticable, and won't leak.
