Baby Products Reviews of Maxi-Cosi Mico Infant Car Seat - JuiceCustomer Review: I love how this car seat *looks* Summary: 3 Stars
I bought this car seat because of how stylish it looks, and because I also thought the Quinny was a lovely stroller. I liked that the car seat attached to both the Zapp and the Buzz, and that those stroller came with a lot of options that others charge extra for, like the rain cover, carrying case, adapters, etc.
There are several things I do not like about this car seat, and the echo what others have said here. It is too small. I have a very small baby, just 18 inches at birth, and we had the seat set on the smallest setting, which was surprisingly small when we left the hospital. We got it adjusted but at only 10 pounds, in the middle of winter, with a snow suit and extra warm padding, we had to set it on the largest setting. On warm days, when she isn't wearing a cloth diaper, the fit is OK, but she doesn't weigh 13 pounds at 5 months. It should be more expandable than this.
I do not like the way you have to hold to the two pieces of plastic together to get them into the clip between her legs. It has taken months to learn to do it quickly, and only my husband and I can do it (and really, just me) so no chance a grandparent or babysitter can get her in easily.
The sun shade is simply too small. It should really come almost all the way over! Again, it is winter, and the sun is low, and is always in her eyes. It vexes me daily.
The handle is a hassle to get up and down. There is no reason a person should have to use two hands, at the exact same moment, to move the carrying handle into and out of place. It is always awkward once she is in the car.
The base is not easy to use at all. There are two big plastic pulls handles on the front of the base. The bottom one has a mystery use and the top one releases the seat from the base. It has taken months to get the right wrist motion to get the seat in and out, and again, I am the only one who can do it. And now the mechanism is stuck in the open position so it is on my dining room table with WD-40, hoping customer service gets back to me about how to release it.
The car seat should really be compatible with more than a couple strollers, and should really, really be usable with a shopping cart. These are things that make it a true hassle to own.
I love how it looks and the padding is excellent - I trust it would handle very well in a crash, which are the reasons I bought it, but the dexterity it requires in the hands and wrist to use are truly a hardship, and the sun vision is a disappointment.
