Baby Products Reviews of Lily Padz Reuseable Nursing PadsCustomer Review: Good, with a few conditions Summary: 3 Stars
I bought these before I had my son, thinking that one product that I could use over and over again sounded so much better than lame disposable nursing pads. Well, someone should have told me that it's not a good thing to keep milk sitting on your nipples all the time, because after the first couple of weeks I had a lot of nipple irritation from the constant moisture. They didn't usually leak outside of the Lily Padz itself, but it was just a little pool of milk in the middle. Granted, I was probably not using them perfectly as I was supposed to, but how many new moms have time to fuss with lots of trial and error with a product in the beginning? I found disposables were much more convenient for the early months, and for use during the day. I wanted to be sure that I wouldn't have any "wardrobe malfunctions" while at work, and I just didn't trust these little buggers to stay adhered for the entire day. However, now that my supply has regulated, I'm not leaking much and my son's not waking much for feedings these have been amazing for nighttime. I was going crazy wearing a bra 24-7, and these have allowed me some nighttime freedom that I was craving so much! So, happy to have them, not good for early weeks/months, but worth it for the evenings.
Customer Review: Bringing sexy back! Summary: 4 Stars
I really liked this product. I was skeptical at first but they worked like a champ. They worked really well for about three weeks and I used them everyday all day as I am a full-time working mom. I washed them once in the evening and once in the morning with a mild facial cleanser, as I didn't have the lily padz cleanser. I didn't have any problems with thrush or yeast infections although now that I read all these reviews I will probably not wear them all the time when I order my next set. I loved the way they looked on because I can finally be naked without leaking all over the place. That's not sexy! So getting intimate with the hubby is a lot better now. He loves the way they look especially since I don't have the big pads hanging out of my bra all the time now. That's not sexy etiher. These are also great because they don't show imprints when wearing a fitted shirt. So I can still feel sexy with or without clothes on which is a hard feeling to accomplish being a new mom, so every little bit helps. The one thing I didn't like is that they can get really smelly even with twice a day cleansing they still can get pretty funky smelling when you remove them. I will be reordering and recommending them.
Customer Review: These are amazing! Summary: 5 Stars
I purchased these toward the end of breasfeeding my son, so I didn't have a crazy amount of milk still coming in like I did early on. I wore these for the last couple months of breastfeeding and am so glad I did. It would have been too expensive to have worn them the whole 10 months. I agree with most of the previous reviews that pet hair and lint gets stuck to them and is kind of annoying, but they wash really well (just make sure you use a good quality soap). I also agree that you shouldn't wear them 24/7 as my nipple never got a chance to breath, so I wore them all but one or two days a week. But I'd have to say that the most spectacular thing about them is that they are impossible to see under everything I have worn! It's great that after so many months of wearing shirts that are too big and have to have patterns on them (so you cannot see the big bulky regular nursing pads), it worth the $20 bucks just so I can wear all of my pre-pregnancy clothes again. And eventhough I was a few weeks out of breastfeeding, I still wore them under my strapless maid-of-honor dress, and they worked like a dream (better than purchasing a new and uncomfortable strapless bra)! Buy these, they are a lifesaver!
Customer Review: Okay for occasional use. Summary: 2 Stars
I was so excited when I got my Lilypadz in the mail. The one and only thing I hate about breastfeeding is the constant wearing of a bra. I used the Lilypadz constantly at first and it was so liberating! However, then I got a thrush infection. It is not caused by the Lilypadz but it is made worse by them. Milk leaks under the Lilypadz and because they are not absorbent, a little bubble of milk forms around your nipple. This milk stays in there until you take the pad off or it gets so big it "blows out," which is really a mess. When the nipple is exposed to this constant moisture, it is a prime target for a thrush infection. So, I still think they are worth the money, but use them only occasionally. Another tip I would offer would be to empty your milk before you wear them to bed (i.e., feed from both breasts or even better, pump them both). That way, you minimize leakage for the night. Also, if you are prone to leaking a lot, I recommend sleeping on a towel to save your sheets. I still wear them occasionally for the freedom, but I have been fighting thrush quite often since I got them and it was never a problem before.
Customer Review: Great Product - but careful of over-sensitivity Summary: 4 Stars
I just wanted to add a small but important note about using these Lily Padz. I think they're a great product and really do stay on and prevent leaks (without causing infections or nasty problems) BUT.. using them lead my nipples to be far more over-sensitive then when I use normal, absorbant breast pads.
Basically, the minor rub and movement of a bra, breast pads or regular clothing throughout the day causes your skin (and especially sensitive parts, like your nipples) to be de-sensitized to touch and movement. By covering your nipples with these fairly thick silicone pads, you remove all sensation and cause the nipples to be over-sensitized to whatever they come in contact with after the pads are removed - in this case, the baby's sucking. In a nutshell - it makes painful over-sensitive breast and nipples even worse, so be careful.
Still.. they are a great product and when I need to feel confident of no leaks or am in a situation where I can't use absorbant breast pads, then these are perfect. I just tend to avoid using them to many days/hours in a row.
Hope this helps.
