Baby Products Reviews of Lily Padz Reuseable Nursing Pads

Customer Review: not a miracle
Summary: 3 Stars

I am breastfeeding my 3rd baby and this was one of the products that I vowed to use if there was ever a 3rd baby. Honestly, I think it works, but it wasn't what I hoped for. I waited until my milk supply had stabilized before using, so about 6 weeks in. My nipples were healed enough from the initial trauma that I could stick the pads on and unstick them... but after a couple of days I just stopped using the Lily Padz. It is annoying to wash them, and then leave them out to air dry. I have a newborn, and I am supposed to hand wash and hover over them while they air dry? I can't help but wince every time I peel them off-- it is a lot like peeling a band-aid off. Does it actually hurt? No. Does it sort of hurt? A little bit. But if it didn't stick it wouldn't work. After the initial month, I really only leak during a letdown when I am nursing the other breast-- it ends up being much more useful to me to press on that nipple with my fingers and this achieves the same effect as Lily Padz, and is a whole lot easier than sticking and unsticking when I am nursing in bed. (A pad on the floor next to the crib to save my sleep, for those who are worried about SIDS.) AND if I did love the product, it really is only supposed to last 1 month according to the instructions because the adhesive will not renew itself indefinitely. Seems like an awfully expensive month.

Customer Review: Pleasantly surprised!
Summary: 5 Stars

I had read all the reviews on this product and decided to try them anyway. I was concerned with leaking and the fact that the general consensus was that they worked best on small breasted women. Well, I am a DD and these are fantastic! I purchased them to use at night so I could stop wearing a bra 24/7. I thought they would fall off but they didn't! I don't breastfeed at night because the baby eats faster from a bottle (and sleep is precious!) so sometimes it can be 8-10 hours before I pump/nurse again. The pads don't leak! My breasts do a little if I push it to that 8-10 hours but the milk just pools in the front of the pad near the nipple until I take it off. And since you can see through the pads, you can check to see if there is any milk there before you take them off. (I take them off over a sink - the first time I was shocked when milk came pouring off the pad when I removed it.) The other night my husband and I went on a date and I wore these. So much better than regular nursing pads since they stick to your skin rather than to your bra. With regular pads I have the problem of my breast shifting and suddenly I am no longer protected by the pad. For me, the $20 is so worth it. I hope these last longer than the 2 months that the product description specifies, but if not, I will happily buy another pair.

Customer Review: good idea

I was so excited when I read about this product, I immediately went online to find and buy the product. There are 2 reason that I can think of why they didn't work the best for me. 1st off one of my nipples is mildly inverted/flat and 2nd I have large breast "D" If I pushed really hard on the inverted nipple breast to get the air bubbles out it would last for a little bit before it would eventually make a pool of milk in it which would eventually leak out from underneath and then the lily pad would fall off. Also if I wore this product in a loose bra or non at all when I would lay down or go to bed they would un stick and come off. The only time this product worked for me is if I had on a very supportive bra and I was not laying down. I eventually stopped using them all together, because I was afraid I would be out in public and they would start to leak. My problem was mainly with the flat nipple though. It did work okay for the most part on the normal nipple as long as it did not get any moisture at all underneath and your breast don't move a lot (like when you are in bed or laying on the couch.) I also have very over productive breast too and I could engorge within 4 hours so nothing I have used has stopped my leaking problem yet. I use the lansinoh breast pads now they have had the least amount of leaking for me.

Customer Review: Excellent - mostly
Summary: 4 Stars

As a breastfeeding mother, it's important to me that I keep my bras dry and leak-free (not to mention my clothes). I've been using my Lily Padz since my daughter (now nearly 4 weeks old) was a few days old. (We had latch-on problems initially, so I used washable pads until my nipples healed.) I really like this product. It's smooth under clothing, and it clings pretty reliably. It isn't perfect, but it doesn't claim to be. When I have a gushing let-down, nothing will contain it, not Lily Padz nor cloth breast pads. That's a little disappointing, but I suppose it's to be expected. I only wish that the tackiness held up a little better. I have tended lovingly to my Lily Padz, following instructions on washing and drying and what not. In fact, I only wear them during the day. At night, I wash them before I go to bed, and leave them on the domes to dry over night (using the washables at night). Despite following the instructions on Lily Padz maintenance very carefully, I feel they've lost their tackiness, and I worry about their effectiveness. So far, no big problems, but I'd feel more secure if they did not appear to have started to wear out already. Still - they're totally worth the investment, and I may just buy another pair, so I can alternate and keep wear to a minimum.

Customer Review: Best kept secret for breastfeeding moms
Summary: 5 Stars

I've been using Lily Padz for about 6 months (I'm on my third set now) and I love them! I started using them because I try to avoid disposable products in the interest of saving our planet. However, I discovered that they're so much more comfortable than traditional nursing pads and I like that they're 'invisible' under form-fitting tops. Another bonus is that I can sleep without a bra. I thought it would be a pain to clean them but it's not. I only wash them once a day (although I think the instructions say to wash/rinse them at each feeding). I bring them in the shower with me and it only takes a minute to clean them with a little bit of dish soap.

I've leaked on a couple of occasions but only during the first 2 months of breastfeeding (when supply maybe wasn't as stable as it is now?) and when I went an extra long time between feedings (i.e. when my son suddenly slept 7 hours at night instead of his usual 4). I recommend holding off on using these until supply and demand are steady and feedings are routine. I didn't wear these at night for several months because I never knew when my son would suddenly sleep the whole night.

I recommend these to all of my pregnant friends and even bought a set as a baby gift for one of my friends.
