Baby Products Reviews of Lily Padz Reuseable Nursing PadsCustomer Review: No Wet, Stinky Breast Pads Here Summary: 5 Stars
I absolutely love this product. I have been nursing for over 8 months now and have been using THE SAME BREAST PADS. No; not just the same brand but the very same two breast pads I brought to the hospital when I gave birth. These things are the coolest things. As long as you keep them clean, they will adhere to the breasts and stop leakage just as the description promises.
Furthermore, these are also great if you are planning on returning to work while pumping/ continuing to nurse. They are very thin and the profiles are smooth so you won't have to worry about that bulky/ obviously-nursing look which ruins many a beautiful blouse.
At first I had a little problem getting them absolutely clean but I then I used my body glove to scrub them while I was in the shower and voila! I have not been tempted to write another review of any other products I have but I just can't believe more women have not discovered the wonder of these things.
Another possible drawback is that the pads by nature don't allow for air circulation. I suggest removing them for as long as you can for a few hours a day so the skin around your nipples can breathe... Removing each pad after a feeding works well for me but you will know what works best for you. In any case; take a look at the price. That's all I have spent on pads in 8 months. What a bargain and an even bigger convenience. Kudos to the makers of Lily-Padz. A great shower gift too if you know someone who is expecting to breastfteed.
Customer Review: I wouldn't be without them! Summary: 5 Stars
These are the best new product I've found since I was last pregnant 13 years ago.
I've read the reviews about leakage, and many people speculating about the cause. I think it may be an issue of breast shape rather than breast size. I'm a DD, and while they look hysterically like a tiny pasty on me, I've found them to be wonderfully leak-proof. That's my biggest point of favor for them. I'm a heavy milk producer, and I've not found a disposable pad that doesn't fill up and leak if I have an unexpected let-down. I had some leakage the first week I used them, and I found that the problem for me was that I hadn't stuck them down properly. You really have to push your nipple pretty much inside your breast, then make sure the pad is stuck all around the areola before pressing the sides to the rest of your breast. Again, I do this by just pushing inward to get them stuck. I use two pairs at a time so that I can wash them between applications, and I'm getting 3-4 weeks of use out of them. I should also mention that I'm wearing them when swimming, so it's possible they might last longer without the chlorine. I love that they aren't bulky, so I don't end up with lumpy-looking breasts in my clothes, and of course they're the only thing I've found for swimming. Nothing's quite as embarrassing as leaving a milky trail behind you. They're definitely worth giving a try, and if they don't work for you the first time, I'd try sticking them down differently, just in case!
Customer Review: extremely disappointed Summary: 1 Stars
I was extremely disappointed with this product in every way. First of all, I bought it so I wouldn't have to spend a lot on disposable breast pads. However, the description doesn't make it clear that they only last two months. If you're going to spend $20 every two months, you might as well buy disposable. Second, they're not dependable against leaks (I'm a DD cup which probably contributes as the problem as the Lilypadz are small so they hardly cover anything). Maybe they would work better on smaller breasts, but my biggest concern is how unhygienic they are. I'm convinced they are a breeding ground for yeast and bacteria, which then makes your baby susceptible, and sets you up for infections. Even though I was very careful and followed all the instructions on cleaning them, at the end of the day they just didn't seem clean enough. I think this is mainly because your nipples get no air, and after nursing, if you don't have time to dry out, they can get milk trapped under the pad. They were also awkward when nursing because I didn't really know where to put it, and I had to fully expose my breast to reapply the pad. And finally, the vacuum created by the pad pulled my breast into a wierd shape that you could see under my clothes.
I bought the product as I thought the concept was really good but in every way it is a waste of money and I'm extremely concerned about the hygiene issue and the problems that could result.
Customer Review: Good product with a few negative aspects Summary: 4 Stars
I have to admit that I really like this product, but you should be aware of some negatives before you buy:
1. Moisture/milk gets trapped around your nipple often (never had it leak, tho!). Makes nipples smell like stale milk. Reports of some people getting thrush (yeast infection). Made my nipples peal. Peeling skin sticks to pad and difficult to get off.
2. Speaking of difficult to get off - EVERYTHING gets stuck to the pads when they are new - hair, pet hair, lint, etc. You are instructed to wash once a day. Air dry or dry with hair dryer - DON'T use a towel, as you will have lint stuck everywhere!!
3. Box says they last 2 months - I have had mine about a month and they are already losing their stickiness. Is it worth the price for one month? Not sure yet!! They may be better off as an occasional use thing like nights, swimming, under tight fitting shirts, etc.
4. More difficult to use in public. Much easier to just shove a pad back in your bra than have to reseal one of these without exposing yourself to the world!!
5. I think they are a little larger than need be (at least for my small C breasts). The petal part is visible outside of some of my bras and when I wear a low cut shirt, you can see the silicone sticking out. May try trimming a pair.
Overall, it is a quality product, but does have some annoying quirks (what product doesn't!!!)
Customer Review: Think they're fantastic - but wish they lasted longer. Summary: 4 Stars
I discovered these with my 2nd child. I used Lasinoh disposable with my first and while they worked fine, there is expense with buying & throwing away. I hated wearing a bra to bed, and if you don't get the disposable pad put back just right, they wrinkle where they attach to the bra and then show through your shirt. Very awkward. Then I found Lilypadz and thought they looked a little weird but gave them a shot - I was SOOOO glad. They seemed to last 6-8 weeks, so that made the purchase cost worth it. They adhere great - sometimes there'a little pooling of milk around the nipple that you have to watch for when you take them off (so it doesn't spill everywhere) but you figure that our pretty quickly. Some reviews say it doesn't stop let down - well, neither does a disposable pad - a disposable just absorbs it all. I think the Lilypadz results is less waste of milk.
However, my 3rd child is now 5 1/2 months old and I've already gone through 4-5 pairs. They are only lasting 3-4 weeks now. I don't know if they changed their adhesive formula, but I'm disappointed with the cost vs how long they last. I still think they're worth it though.
I've never had a problem with my skin not breathing or having any ill-effects from wearing them and I wear them everyday, nearly all day. And if you have "show through" issues while breastfeeding, these help!
