Baby Products Reviews of Lilly Gold Sit 'n Stroll 5-in-1 Combination Car Seat/StrollerCustomer Review: great travel stroller Summary: 4 Stars
We bought this product back in 2005 and used it during an international trip through several airports. It worked as advertised in all the jumbo jets, and elicited generally positive reactions from other passengers and flight crew; however it could not pass through the aisles of an Embraer commuter plane that we had to take on a short leg of our journey. In order to secure it correctly on the airline seat, you may have to get a seatbelt extender from the flight attendant.
Having this car seat/stroller is great if you are travelling with small kids; they sleep comfortably in it and makes for more efficient transfer between gates. I share the observation that others made regarding its inability to take bumps... for that reason it is not a good choice beyond travel and maybe use within a shopping mall. As a car seat it was OK, it just takes some getting used to. We never used it in a rear-facing configuration, so I cannot rebut comments made by other users as regards their problems in that mode.
Customer Review: Good for getting around city/airports, but.... Summary: 2 Stars
The whole reason I bought this because I was travelling through O'Hare from Denver-Virginia by myself with my son who was 7 months at the time. I wanted easy one-handed operated stroller that would be no trouble in/out of security, gate-check, around airport, etc. And for this purpose, it was great! However, when it came time to install it in the car, my father almost had a heart attack trying to get it strapped in. It just never felt secure. I had read other reviewers complaining it didn't seem safe, but figured we could get it to fit securely. Nope. And he was still rear facing and completley squooshed up, and he was a small baby. So, we used it once for that trip and never again. Instead, we bought a back-pack that holds his regular car seats as well as other stuff, and that works great for getting around the airport with an umbrella stroller. This car seat is a great theory and maybe since a year and a half ago, they figured out a better way to strap it in the car more safely.
Customer Review: Very convenient for travel Summary: 4 Stars
We purchased this since we like to travel. Our first trip was a great success! This car seat was very easy to travel with, especially with all of the opening and closing of the stroller getting on/off the airplane, into & out of the Hertz courtesy shuttle, going through airport security, etc. It literally takes 3 seconds to push/pull the handle bar and the wheel open/close mechanism. The wheels stroll and turn very smoothly and the whole system is not very heavy & cumbersome.
The not-so-convenient steps with using this may apply to all strollers...such as finding the child-seat restraint hooks on the cars (especially the one behind the seat). Also, the belt that goes over our child's lap when she is in the seat needs to be loosened and moved each time we put her in and out of the seat. But this may apply to all child seat designs anyway.
Altogether, this is certainly a valuable purchase for those who like to travel. We HIGHLY recommend it.
Customer Review: Wonderful for the early baby years ... not for toddlers Summary: 3 Stars
We got this seat for our newborn. We loved it!!!! My husband had to go on a deployment when our daughter was 6 weeks old. I was able to catch a flight on board a C5 to the states with the military. Every time you got off the plane you had to take your luggage with you. So imagine the envy of other mothers when I effortlessly turned her car seat into a stroller and dragged our luggage behind me. Plus eating out was great as the carseat easily slides into booths and she used that instead of a highchair when we went out to eat. The downside of the seat is our precious little girl grew very quickly and her legs would dangle from the stroller. She also quickly outgrew the straps on the seat and it would rub against her legs. Very uncomfortable. My daughter was 9 lbs 6 oz at birth and by 18 months we could no longer use the seat. If you are a family that does alot of traveling you would benfit from this seat. Otherwise maybe look into getting something else.
Customer Review: Works on Small Planes Summary: 4 Stars
We've only used this on small commuter flights with two by two seat configurations (like CRJ-700) and it has worked well. It works easily rear facing with the seat belt or forward facing with a belt extension (which you have to ask the flight attendant for). I assume it would work well on big planes. It also fits through the X-Ray machines easily (face down) and the two mechanisms to retract the wheels and handle are intuitive and quick. The only thing to keep in mind is that its pretty big and when you carry it onto the plane (small plane) you have to hold it up over the seats. If you are first on the flight, that's easy...if the plane is full you have to be careful not to bonk passengers on the head. Its not very heavy so carrying it up the steps isn't hard (again, small planes). If you are traveling alone though and you have to carry your child, you will will to get some help from crew...which wasn't an issue for us.
