Customer Review: I like my snoogle
Summary: 4 Stars

Initially, the upper curve was rather thick & firm, and too high for my neck - I'd wake up achy or with a stiff neck. But the rest of the pillow worked so well for me I stuck with it, and after maybe 3-4 weeks, the head part softened to where it is now comfortable most of the time.

As another reviewer mentioned also happens to her, I sometimes wake up on my back, very comfortably cradled by snoogle, the one curve under my head and the other behind my knees. But the thing is - pregnant women aren't supposed to sleep on their backs b/c it can restrict oxygen and nutrient flow to the fetus. I don't want to be comfortable on my back!! This isn't the pillow's fault, I do get that, but one reason I bought it was to keep me on my side, so I wanted to pass this along to anyone else who might be considering it for this reason. It helps, but it doesn't prevent back-sleeping.

Pros: (1) one pillow to maneuver; firm but soft enough to be comfortable; (2) it's a good size for me (now that the neck area has softened) @ 5'4" and 143 pre-preg weight; (3) while not percale, the pillowcase feels fine to me, tho I do also plan to make a second cover out of a softer knit jersey; (4) while my sleep is still broken up, I'm able to get longer stretches with snoogle than I was when using regular pillows; (5) there is less room in the bed, but I can still fit myself & snoogle onto my half of our queen-size mattress.

Con: (1) the price (it's just basic pillow filling, not down or gel or anything fancy; polyfil costs a couple bucks a bag so I really think they are making $30+ profit per pillow); (2) the cover is hard to take off and put on; velcro, buttons, or a zipper would have been a much better approach; (3) maneuvering it under the blankets in winter is tricksy - I have to throw back the blankets, lift up the pillow, move my body, then put the pillow back. Often I (inadvertently, I swear!) smack my husband in the head with the upper curve while trying to extricate the lower curve from the sheets. Gets old quick, esp as I'm up 4-8x/night; and (4) when it's in the middle of the bed, my husband tends to hug it as a body pillow, further complicating this extrication/flipping process. Again, not the pillow's fault, but amusing.

Customer Review: Woman with an aching back!

Before buying this pillow, check out the reviews on the "Pregnancy Pillow Deluxe". It also scored high and only costs $9.00! A friend of mine had suggested I buy a cheap body pillow at Wal-mart. I had never gotten around to doing this and hadn't really felt I needed a special pillow so much anyway. But in my 6th month I had started needing extra support under my belly. I was at BabiesRus one day and saw this Snoogle pillow, and wondered about it. I didn't see the price displayed and nearly choked when a clerk told me the price was $50. But I was told that a lot of women go to the store looking for this specific pillow. I was also told that it doubled as a nursing pillow and that if I didn't like it after I got it home, I could return it. I decided maybe it was a good thing. So for 3 nights I tried it. I used it behind my back so that it worked differently than a cheap body pillow that you just hug in front of you, to try and justify the extra cost. It was hard to get it pulled around well enough to support my big belly, and then it was kind of narrow and firm, not wide and cushy enough to really help my belly that much. The back support was not really that great either. I liked the part curved around my head, and I kind of liked feeling "cuddled" by the pillow - but none of the good points were worth $50 to me. Anyway, the first 3 nights I slept okay with it, but nothing to write home about. The reason for using it that many times in the first place was to try and figure out what everyone seems to like about this thing. Each day I debated returning it, but felt guilty for having used it. I decided to give it a 4th try. This time my back was hurting and I wanted it to really support my back. I fought with it and tried to make it comfortable to me, but I never could get it to work right. Finally I just wanted to go to sleep and quit dealing with this thing. I wound up putting this Snoogle to the side and using a couple of regular pillows in my bed with me. I fell asleep quickly after that. Even when I "lost" one of the regular pillows during the night, I was much more comfortable than I was in the Snoogle. I am going to return it now. I can't waste my money this way!

Customer Review: Couldn't stand to use it, even though it was a gift!

I'm so glad I'm not the one who paid $50 for this pillow! God bless my friend for thinking of me, but I wish her money could have been better spent. She said her daughter loved it, and maybe the Snoogle works well for some women, but after three attempts at using it, I stuffed it in a plastic bag, and there it sits on my bedroom floor to this day. Here are the reasons why:
1. It's way too firm. I could not get it to support my tummy from underneath at all; all I could do was try to sort of lean against it, but that didn't offer any support. Same thing with the back "support" -- the whole pillow is so firm, it was more of a leaning thing than a support thing.
2. Maybe this is more of the same firmness complaint, but I couldn't get used to using the pillow part. It wasn't soft enough to "mold" to my head and neck, and I ended up trying to push it far enough to the side that I could use a regular pillow instead.
3. The fabric is, as others have said, not very good quality and itches if your bare skin touches it. The farther I've gone in my pregnancy, the more sensitive my skin has gotten; I can't even imagine trying to use it now. Assuming I could stand the pillow itself, I'd have to buy one of the covers (though I don't have one, so I'm not sure of their quality, either) or make one myself.
4. The curve is too confining. I felt like I had to curl up all the time. I'm 5'6" tall, so you can use that as a measurement tool if you like. I just can't stand not being able to stretch out comfortably, and the Snoogle didn't allow me to do it.
5. It's H-U-G-E!!! God help you if you're trying to share a less-than-kingsized bed with your spouse or significant other AND this gargantuan thing. There won't be room for the three of you.
6. Don't even try to roll this thing over with you. Talk about a wrestling match!
Maybe I can recycle the Snoogle into a sort of TV-watching pillow; it's certainly firm enough for that. But it's not something I'd recommend or buy for a friend or family member. The Boppy Wedge is an INFINITELY better buy for the money (see my review of that item), not to mention being a better product overall.

Customer Review: Skeptical at first, but very impressed!!!
Summary: 5 Stars

Okay, I am very skeptical when it comes to things that are supposed to make me comfortable during pregnancy...I'm not one of these "glowing, cute little basketball belly" kind of pregnant ladies. I'm more of the "gigantic, lethargic, miserable" kind. :) But I must say, this pillow has done more for my overall comfort during this pregnancy than any other product I've ever used. I really wish I had it during my first pregnancy! I had severe hip and lower back pain and sciatica (sort of like a pinched nerve in your lower back that sends a shooting pain all the way down your leg) almost to the point where I couldn't walk in the mornings when I got out of bed. I am very surprised to tell you that this pillow has done wonders to relieve all of these aches and pains. It took me about 3 or 4 nights to really get used to it and figure out which way it works best for me...now, I couldn't imagine sleeping without it. I will definitely continue to use it after the pregnancy. This is by far the best $50 I ever spent. I haven't had the pillow long enough to comment on the problems other people have had with the filling shifting, but I love this pillow so much that if I had to replace it in 6 months because of the filling problems, I would not hesitate. I didn't see how it could really support your back that much, but it really does. The weight of your head on one end and your leg on the other end really holds the back support in place so it doesn't just gradually get out of place during the course of the night like a regular pillow behind your back would do. It is the perfect thickness for my head (I like a little thicker pillow, not a flat one), so my neck is quite comfortable. I just put a pillow case over the end where my head goes...I didn't purchase the extra cover, but I probably will. I use the pillow with the more curved end between my legs so that the tip of it comes around and goes right under the side of my belly to support it...which looks like it might be a little uncomfortable, but it's perfect! What a great invention. If I could give this pillow 6 stars I would. The best $50 I ever spent.

Customer Review: Best night's rest in a while!
Summary: 5 Stars

I bought this body pillow about 3 months ago when I was 2 months pregnant. Back then, I scorned it. Not having washed the pillowcase, I complained it was itchy. And far too big to fit the pillow, me, and my husband in our Queen size bed. I read a review somewhere about the seam that cuts along the bottom, that it hurt that person's shoulder. At that time I had to agree.

Fast forward to the past week. I'm now 5 months pregnant, starting to show, starting to get both lower and upper back pain, sciatic pain, and for some reason my arms keep falling asleep while I'm sleeping. I hardly got any sleep last week, I was so uncomfortable even though I was using 4 pillows. I begrudgingly decided it was time to bring the behemoth to bed with me. I washed the cover which became very, very soft after being laundered. I put the pillow on my bed, laughing about how big it was, worrying that my husband would not fit. But he did! I slept along the long side, hugging with my arms and legs. What a difference! Instantly, I could tell this was going to solve all the problems I had been having with getting a good night's rest as I floated off to sleep. Upon waking up, I have no back pain, my hips feel good, my baby feels like it had enough room to get a good night's sleep last night, and my arms did not fall asleep at all. My upper back feels much better, and the strong seam along the bottom of the pillow did not have any impact. I know I flipped over twice to the short end to visit my husband on the other side of the bed, but I really prefer the long end. I am so happy that I got my Snoogle. It is just what I need to get through the next 5 months!

Some Stats: I am 5'4". I can comfortably fit inside of the snoogle sideways, and the bottom curve of the snoogle meets between my knees and calves. If I lie on my back, my shoulders do not fit inside the snoogle and they roll forward. On my back, the snoogle is more like an adult boppy, so I can prop high up on it, as though I were sitting in an inner tube, but I will rarely choose to lie inside of it on my back.
