Baby Products Reviews of Leachco Safer Bather Infant Bath Pad, Blue Fish

Customer Review: Perfect for Newborns!
Summary: 5 Stars

Just like any new mother, I was petrified by the thought of bathing my newborn on my own. Due to the softness of a baby's skull, I knew I didn't want my baby's first tub to be a hard plastic tub, but rather one made of sponge. The Safer Bather was wonderful mainly because I didn't have to worry about my baby hitting her head on a hard surface. I placed it on our bathroom counter and bathed her with a mug using the water from the sink. The Safer Bather absorbed most of the water, and any remaining water drained from the counter into the sink. There wasn't much of a mess and clean up was easy. I made sure to wash it in the washing machine once every two weeks with baby detergent so that it would not develop mold. After washing it, I hung it to dry, which helped in not altering its original shape. When I have my next child, I will probably buy another Safer Bather because I'm not comfortable using one that has been sitting around for so long, even after washing it. Nevertheless, I think it's a worthwhile investment for my baby's first few months. I used this tub until she was sitting up by herself, which is when I transitioned her to a hard plastic tub in which she could sit and play with her toys.

Customer Review: forget about plastic tubs!
Summary: 5 Stars

this thing rocks... when I was pregnant with my second son the one thing I dreaded was bathing a squirmy, slippery infant, my first had hated being bathed until he was about three months old and I always wound up almost as wet as the baby because of him squirming and how awckward using a tub was. Well, I found out about this on the BRU website and read all the reviews and decided this was for me. I don't regret getting it one bit and am looking forward to many years of use. It was SO easy to bathe my newborn in it, I can't imagine ever wanting to use one of those horrible plastic tubs again. You get to use both arms to bathe and rinse your baby while the comfy warm pillow holds him in place for you. It's just great! And I don't wind up soaking wet after bathing my baby anymore, which is another big plus. Just make sure you squeeze out all the water every time you're done using it, so you don't have to worry about mildew. If for some reason you do get some mildew in it, soak it in hot water and one cup white vinegar for an hour, then wash in your washing machine and it should be good as new.

Enjoy bath-time with your baby, it's one of the fondest memories you'll have!

Customer Review: Hands-Free bathing!!
Summary: 5 Stars

I just used this bather for the first time last night and I must say that I love it!! My now 4 month old daughter has just outgrown her infant tub, and since she doesn't have her own bathroom yet, I wanted to get something that was easy to store. This was our answer! I just fill the tub of with warm water and let it lay in it, in order for it to absorb the water, while I undress her. I lay her in it and wala, she doesn't move!!! She can still splash her feet which is great! After bathtime, just wring and hang on the shower rod. How easy is that?! Of course, since I've only used it once I haven't had any problems with mold, but I plan on washing it everyweek, so I hope that helps. If it becomes a problem, I will update this review!

Update:

Well I have been using this product for about two months now and it DOES have mildew! EW!! It is not stink however, but the mildew is very obvious! I have washed it weekly and dried it after every bath but still mildew! I do think that it was fine for the transitional period, but my now 6.5 month old daughter will be using an inflatable tub and this will be tossed!

Customer Review: More than just an awesome tub - love it!!!
Summary: 5 Stars

This is my first time writing a review since I am a new mommy of a one week old. I used to be a nanny for 2 young boys and the family actually got this tub as a recommendation from the baby's pediatrician. He was about 3 months old and having a lot of trouble with acid reflux especially at night. Doctor said to support his head higher than his heart and tah-dah the tub worked great for sleeping and bathing too later on. When their kids out grew it they gave it to me since we were trying to conceive for years. Recently we adopted our son and got all of our things together that we collected over the years. This tub has been invaluable. We bought one of those playard type bassinets so that it would be something he wouldn't out grow in less than 6 months. So far I do like it but we could tell he just seemed uncomfortable and lost in the big playard. I remembered it was okay to let him sleep on the tub and covered it in a crib sheet and he slept through the night at only 3 days old!!! I've also given him a couple of sponge baths (umbilical cord still in place right now) and it was terrific! If you don't have one of these go out and get one!!!

Customer Review: HORRIBLE BACK RASH!!
Summary: 1 Stars

We got this bath pad for our 3 month old and initially loved it, as he sat there so comfortably while we washed him, but within even the first month he started getting a horrible rash on his back due to contact with the bath pad. We have always cleaned and hung to dry, but we live in a warm climate and clearly the mildew grows inside of the mat unless you have professional drying equipment. To avoid buying another pad we have attempted to use wet towels over the pad so that his skin does not come in direct contact with the infected pad, but unfortunately this does not appear to be enough. Our baby is now six months and has an ongoing and painful looking rash on his back where it has been touching the bath pad.

BOTTOM LINE: If you plan to buy 10 pads (for $250??) and treat them like disposable items - polluting the landfills and throwing your money away in the process - then this pad is wonderful, but for all of the sane people out there, please do not make the same mistake we did. There are better bath options out there that do not jeopardize the skin health of your baby. We are so sorry we bought this pad.
