As a brand new parent, I was pretty nervous about baths--the nurses in the hospital said babies just cry during baths and it's okay, but it was pretty terrible to watch her wail through her first sponge bath (while still in the hospital.)
Once we got home, though, this pillow was absolutely wonderful! We had originally chosen the pillow because of major space constraints in the house (no room in bathroom for a plastic tub, and no kitchen counter space.)
For her first baths, we laid her on her pillow in the tub, and gave her a sponge bath as in the hospital, except she didn't cry! Once her umbilical stump fell off, we began filling the tub with about 2" of water, just enough to warm her bottom while lying in the pillow. She's probably happier during a bath than any other time of day!
Other positive features: the pillow comes with a sturdy hook for storage. We bought a heavy duty suction cup "robe hanger" at Target, and store it on the back wall of the bathtub where it can drip dry, and it takes up almost no space. Finally, this pillow is the ultimate bath pillow for grown-ups as well! I spent several hours in our bathtub at home during early labor, and was perfectly comfortable with this pillow supporting my head and shoulders. I would go so far as to recommend this pillow to friends without children.)
I highly recommend this pillow over a traditional plastic baby tub.

We bought this for our (first) baby before his birth, and it was, without doubt, the best choice we could've made for bathing him.
It was perfect for the early sponge baths on a counter or bathroom floor, and just as great in the tub (other reviewers have stated that it floats and it may; we simply used a detatchable showerhead and "showered" him in it, which made me less nervous).
In our one-bath apartment, with no window or other ventilation, we hung it up in the shower after use and it drained immediately. Having no other place to put it, it hung there the next day through my husband's and my showers and was still dry and mold-free by our boy's bath in the early evening. As someone who's painfully allergic to mold, I was delighted. Once a week or so, I'd pop it in the wash and dry it on the air setting and, other than some pilling (a small price to pay) it was fresh as new.
The plastic tubs never appealed to me (would've taken up far too much space, probably been more maintenance, and seemed less comfortable). Not to mention that, when an infant relieves him/herself while bathing - and they will - they're then laying in filthy water.
Since he began rolling over, our son has no need for it, but it's one of the few things from his early infancy I packed and moved into the new (and much-larger) house. When and if he has a sibling, it'll be one of the first things we unpack.

I originally received the Safer Bather as a shower gift and used it while my son was still very tiny and only weeks old. I was still too nervous to advance to the large tub and having him on the soft cushion put me more at ease. After awhile, we used the Safer Bather in conjunction with the EuroBath by Primo because we felt that the EuroBath tub was too big for our preemie baby and we liked the idea of having something soft for him to sit in that kept him from slipping while in the plastic tub. We simply place the EuroBath in the regular bathtub and place the Safer Bather in the EuroBath while our son sits there and enjoys the bath. There are a few things that make this a superior product. First, when we bathe our son, we can douse it in warm water so he is not shivering on a cold pad or slipping around on a hard plastic tub while he is being bathed. We love that this is portable and can be packed for vacations away from home. The dry and hang feature is fantastic. After we bathe the baby, I hang the safer bather on the plastic hook up by the shower head and it dries in no time. I have turned 3 other new mothers onto this product and they have all come back to me and raved about it. Our son is nearly 6 months old and we will be using it for quite a while to come. I love this product and highly recommend its use either in conjuction with the EuroBath by Primo as we have done, or on its own.Customer Review: I don't know how I bathed my other 4 without it!

What a fantastic product! My little Luca is 10 months old and I still use it! From the day I took him home from the hospital I have used this wonderful product!
The outer fabric is cheerful and bright! It is durable fabric and is nice and soft for your baby. Before baby can sit up, you actually use this tub "upside down." Baby lays on it! Enough of your tub water fills up the little well baby's little body makes so he/she stays nice and warm. Washing hair on this is great! This is 100% NOT slippery! No more having to hold baby with one arm and wash with the other arm! You WILL finally enjoy giving your baby a bath!
When baby can sit up, turn this around and it is like well, my 7 year old calls it a "tubby, boaty, floaty thing." It offers a fantastic barrier or cushion all around your baby. It even gets you passed the stage where your baby can't really sit up but wants to. I found that my little guy was happy to recline even on the "boat" side!
Clean up is a snap but you MUST maintain this to keep it fresh. After baby's bath, just shake it out and hang it up. I keep mine on the shower head or shampoo rack! This product just drips dry.
I have been using mine daily for the past 11 months and mine does not smell or have mold. I am a freak about baby's things being clean and fresh and am thrilled with this product!

I registered for this after reading all of the great reviews and let me tell you, it is truly WONDERFUL! I use this along with my Infant to Toddler bathtub by evenflo and it fits perfectly. My daughter was rather small at birth (5lbs 3oz.) and she loves it. The first time I used the blue back support that came with the tub, but she seemed to feel so insecure. She spent the entire time grasping at air, looking for something to hold onto and sliding around. Since then I've always used this pillow and she sits there like a big girl! I no longer have to use one hand to hold her and one to bath her. Both hands are free. The pillow actually does stay warm (you'd think it would get cold when wet), and it does not mildew as mentioned before. All you have to do is hang it up high (shortly after using it) where it can drain properly with the hanger provided. The evenflo tub I have is a pretty big one and the safer bather sometimes sinks, but I've discoverd that I can use the little hanger that came with the pillow to keep the pillow from moving while in use. All you have to do is attach the hanger to the pillow and then put the hanger under the lip(edge) on the back of the tub. Now the safer bather will not move AT ALL! This is my second child and I have never found anything like it. I would absolutely recommend it, ESPECIALLY for little ones and newborns.
