Baby Products Reviews of Leachco Safer Bather Infant Bath Pad, Blue FishCustomer Review: From 5 days old to 6mths +++ it's great! Summary: 5 Stars
This bather is safe for your baby, easy to clean and easy to store!!!
After attempting a bath for my newborn in the plastic tub we had bought, even with the tub sling, we quickly searched for another bathing option. Our son was just too little and it was so hard to keep ahold of him and bathe him at the same time.
With the safer bather, he simply lays on the cushion and we fill the bath to the level we desire. Initially, we didn't fill the tub much. Now that he is almost 6mths, he likes to splash & feel the water around him. We just are sure not to fill it higher that about the middle of the bather. Otherwise, he can turn his face sideways and get water in his ears, eyes, mouth, etc.
We have bought the Safety 1st seat as our son is now starting to sit up, assisted. However, I have found it extremely difficult to wash him well b/c he is seated and I cannot get underneath him. So, for now, we are sticking with the safter bather until he complains. I can see us using the safter bather to get him cleaned up, then putting him in the seat for some bath time fun. We'll see though.
So far, almost 6mths later, it is still the perfect bather. A recommendation: Be sure to lift it up and let the water come out of it, then hang over the shower head, or somewhere so that the water doesn't sit it in. It gets cold and then is in there for the next bath. Also, we have washed ours in the machine twice, with bleach. Once it was starting to smell, and the second time we did b/c our son decided to relieve himself in the tub! So, it is rather easy to clean up. And, it takes much less storage space then a plastic tub you can't hang.
Hope you enjoy it as much as we have!
Customer Review: Perfect bather for an infant Summary: 5 Stars
I can't say enough good things about this bather! We bought it for our first son 2+ years ago and just bought a new one for our new baby. It perfectly and gently cradles the baby in the bathtub so that they cannot squirm out and get submerged in the water or get water in their ears, mouth, etc. It is angled just enough so that his or her bottom half can be in a good amount of water (no one wants a cold, unhappy baby in the bath). The bather absorbs a lot of water, so if you dunk both sides into the warm water before putting the baby on it, his or her head and back is touching the warm water, which makes it nice. Also, when you have the baby sit up to wash his hair and back his bum stays in place and he doesn't slide around, which makes bathing such a challenge otherwise.
The only negative thing I would say about it (and I don't even really think it's negative) is that after about 1 1/2 years of use, including washing it periodically, it lost some of its shape and wasn't as "fluffy." That's why we ended up buying a second one, but honestly for the price and use we got out of it, I couldn't complain about it. Plus by 1-2 years old you don't need it anymore anyways. It is also important to hang it up in the shower up the hanger provided after use and squeeze the water out or it can become a little bit stinky from mildew. If you forget it's not a big deal to throw it in the washer. We washed it periodically anyways, just to keep it fresh.
I 100% recommend this product!
Customer Review: We've Never Used It In The Bathtub! Summary: 3 Stars
Being a new mom and having no experience whatsoever, I did some research online and read a lot of reviews and then chose the Safer Bather. My son is now 4 months old and I have never used this product in the bathtub! I used it when he was a newborn for giving him sponge baths which worked nicely because the contour kept him from wiggling and rolling over. And let me tell you my son is a squirmer!! Now that he is a little older my husband and I actually take a bath with him. We use the Safer Bather to rest him in before and after the bath with a towel draped over it so we can quickly wrap him up. We also use it around the house the same way - if I need to run to the bathroom or somewhere else in the house and need to take the baby, I just plop the Safer Bather on the floor where I am and put him in it.
My only complaint is that after the very first (and only) time in the washing machine the filling on the inside shifted so that now the area that supports his head isn't level. My son's head will lean to one side unless I position him juuuuust right. This kept me from bumping the rating up to 4 stars.
Overall, I'm sure this would be ok IN the bathtub as it was designed to be used, but I just haven't and still use this basically as a baby pillow around the house. I will purchase my next bathing product when my son is able to sit up on his own. If I had to do it over again I probably wouldn't get this product, although it has been useful everywhere else in the house!
Customer Review: Bathe Baby Easily in the Big Tub; Nurse Baby in Bath Summary: 5 Stars
Like many others, I found this bath pillow to be great for bathing my baby in the adult tub (in a few inches of water), though it was too big to fit into his little countertop tub.
I was worried about the mold factor that others have mentioned, but I've had it for two months and have had no mold or mildew problems so far, even though our shower curtain tends to get moldy quickly. The bather dries out right away if I hang it on the shampoo organizer in the tub.
I've also found the safer bather very useful for a shared bath (and a heck of a lot easier on my back than bending over the tub). I've seen nursing in a warm bath recommended for nursing strikes or helping baby calm down after some kind of trauma, but I like it just for bonding, and my 7-week-old loves it.
Either I use the safer bather as a bath pillow that I lean back on (perfect size and shape) and nurse in the cradle hold, or I lean forward and wedge it under my baby and nurse him in the football hold. He often falls asleep right away, his little feet waving in the warm water like pink seaweed.
Then I can wash him and nurse him at the same time as he's napping. (Talk about multitasking!)
Just don't expect to get a lot of washing of yourself done, as then there'll be harsh soap in the bath water, and anyway who has enough hands to hold the baby and wash, too? (I usually do a quick 60-second wash before I run the bath water and bring him in.)
Customer Review: Awesome!!! Summary: 5 Stars
My baby and I LOVE this item!! I bought it before he was born and did a lot of research into other bath products before doing so. All the typical hard plastic type tubs seemed so uncomfortable and clumsy to use. We have been using the Safer Bather since the day we brought him home from the hospital. We put it right in the big tub and fill the tub with about 2 inches of water. Then I push down on the cushion to help it soak up some of the water so it's nice and warm before putting baby in. He absolutely loves it!! It's firm for support yet soft enough to make for a comfy bath experience for my little guy. The way it is contoured helps keep his head elevated so I can easily wash his hair and when I need to sit him up to wash his back, his little bottom fits right into the contour so he's not slipping all over the place. I've read other reviews that say it is a pain to dry out every time and that it collects mold but I haven't experienced either. When we're done, we just hang it up in the shower and forget about it until next time. And after 3 months of use, I still see no mold whatsoever. No complaints here!! The price is also lower than a lot of other tubs so you can't beat it!! Highly recommended!!
EDIT: Just wanted to add that my baby is now almost 7 months old and still no sign of mold at all. We use it twice a week and he still loves it! We are going to transition to a seat soon since he sits on his own now, and I will miss the Safer Bather so much!!
