Baby Products Reviews of Leachco Back 'N Belly Contoured Body Pillow, IvoryCustomer Review: Saved my aching hips Summary: 4 Stars
A totally worthwhile investment!
About 12 weeks into my pregnancy, my hips were already aching so badly that I couldn't sleep. I went online and searched for pregnancy pillows and this was the only one I found that mentioned alleviating hip and shoulder pain.
It works. The first night I used it, I slept all through the night with no pain whatsoever.
I agree with other reviewers - the cover is poorly designed and the seam at the U-curve really cut into my shoulder. But I have since inverted the pillow and sleep with my regular pillow slung across the "legs." I like this better as it doesn't prop my head up so high.
The other way I have positioned this pillow is to wrap the "legs" around to create little circular nest to put my belly into so I can nap on my stomach. I can't say it's too comfortable for long-term sleeping, but the novelty of resting in something other than a side-lying position is pure bliss! It also makes my back readily available for massages...
I have a queen sized bed and my husband hasn't complained a bit about being crowded out. He snuggles right up to me in my "nest" and is still hogging most of the bed, as usual.
Overall, I would highly recommend this pillow - particularly to pregnant women suffering from hip and shoulder pain. Don't worry about the negative comments about the poor design. The cover could definitely be a improved upon, but it's not a deal-breaker. You just learn to compensate for it with different positions, etc. Hopefully the manufacturer will either fix the seam or offer different pillow covers, but even if they never do, you won't want to be without this wonderful pillow.
Customer Review: A "must have" for your pregnancy!! Summary: 5 Stars
WOW! is this an amazing product! I also purchased the "Just for Mom Body Pillow" (it's shaped just like the "Snoogle") but this was the winner by far!
PROS:
1- it has 2 'legs', so turning over does not require flipping it over in the middle of the night. All of these pillows are very heavy! And when you have a big belly, everything is difficult! With the Snoogle, you must flip the entire thing when you want to turn over. Ugh!
2- removable cover for washing - nice!
3- symmetrical, so you can sort of lean back without actually sleeping on your back without moving the whole thing around. It truly feels like a snuggley nest of comfort.
4- shaped so that you can keep your legs from touching entirely- from hip to ankle (not just between your thighs)
5-easier to get in and out of than the Snoogle-like body pillow (for late-night bathroom runs)
CONS:
1-it does take up a lot of room, but there is still plenty of room in a queen size bed - I use this and my husband uses the Snoogle I had planned on returning (well, he wasn't getting mine!)
In short, the Snoogle- like Body Pillow has curves at the top and bottom, so I found that no matter which way I positioned it, the curvy end kept making it's way up my butt! I didn't like that only my hips - not my lower legs - were supported. It also had a zipper for an attachment (so you can sit the baby in it later, or sit in it yourself) but it will scratch and jam into you unless you are mindful of it, and are always fully clothed.
this pillow was worth every penny, and i will be sure to continue using it after I have my little girl!
Customer Review: needs some improvement Summary: 3 Stars
Once I received this pillow I slept on it for three nights straight and then have been using my regular pillows ever since. There are some pros to the pillow. It really is comfortable to lay on and does support your entire body well. It really is great on your neck as your entire body is at the same level as your head, minimizing any neck discomfort. It also does minimize hip, butt, and back pain. When I used the pillow I didn't toss and turn as often.
There are also some cons with this pillow. It could be a bit longer. If you are tall and want to use it between your legs you will only be able to use it to keep your knees from rubbing together. Forget the lower half of your legs. It is also really big. I have a queen bed and my husband cannot sleep in bed with me. Everytime I move, the pillow seems to spread out further. My biggest complaint that caused me not to sleep with the pillow anymore is that there really is nowhere comfortable to place your arms. Whatever side I layed on, that arm would fall asleep or throb in pain. You can place your arm under the pillow and stretch it out on the bed, but you can only deal with the pain for so long. Also, like the picture shows above, you can put it around your waist in a sitting position and read or breastfeed. This is very uncomfortable and I can't get the ends to stay up to support my head. Also, I think it was meant for very thin women, because it doesn't fit well around my waist and I am only a little bit overweight.
To summarize, if you don't mind sleeping alone and you don't mind not having lower leg support or some arm pain, then this is the pillow for you.
Customer Review: MUST Have Pillow!!!!! Summary: 5 Stars
I got this pillow for Christmas and it is amazing. I slept with it for the 1st time and woke up without all the pains and aches I normally have. It is a BIG pillow but I put the back half of it on the very edge of the bed so it still only took up my half of the bed. If over time I find anything different out I will let you know but so far this is a must have!
UPDATE~ 2/12/11
I am still in love with this pillow. The seam in the neck area can hurt your neck/shoulder sometimes. However I have found several very comfortable ways around this. I have put a pillow on the head area of this pillow and it gives me a little more head support and then I'm not on the seam. Also I have the pillow slightly sideways so one side is a touch longer then the other and lay my head on the edge of the side of the pillow head area. I still really like this pillow and would not trade it for anything. We recently had to go to a hotel for the night and I was SO sorry I didn't have this pillow with me. I am planning to take it with me for my labor as well. Totally worth the money.
UPDATE~4/2/11
I am loving this pillow more and more everyday. I slept without it the other night and woke up so sore and kept waking up in the middle of the night. I am 27 weeks pregnant and most nights I only wake up once if at all. I can't believe I can sleep thought the night still. The seam in the neck area doesn't bother me at all anymore. I did have to take the cover off the other day to wash it and let me tell you it is NOT easy to put it back on. I was getting so frustrated but did finally get it back on.
Customer Review: Fantastic for my tired pregnant body!!! Summary: 5 Stars
I received this pillow yesterday. After a month of restless and broken sleep I was able to get a full night's sound rest with this pillow. I am so thrilled with it that I had to write a review.
I was initially concerned about buying it because so many had complained about the seam digging into your shoulder. It's true that there is a seam but it doesn't stick out any farther than a regular seam. However, it will do what any seam does when stretched...it gets taut. This problem is easily remedied in two ways: 1) You don't have to snug your shoulder right up against the seam, scoot down just a little and shoulder won't touch the seam but you still have plenty of head and neck support, 2) When you slide one of the ends of the pillow between your legs instead of clamping down immediately slide the end upwards about an inch and that will give the seam some slack, getting rid of the problem all together.
I was also a bit concerned because someone mentioned that the pillow was too short, this lady was 5'8". I am 5'7" and it's the perfect size. I can wrap myself around this pillow, legs and arms, and be completely comfortable and wonderfully snug.
This pillow, with the way the contours fit against your body will also help you stay in the pregnancy recommended side sleeping position. I went to sleep on my side and woke up there as well and that's a big deal for me because I move around a lot while I sleep.
I would recommend this pillow to any pregnant woman. I'm so glad I bought it and so happy to be sleeping soundly and in the correct position (on my side) again.
