Baby Products Reviews of Leachco Back 'N Belly Contoured Body Pillow, IvoryCustomer Review: HORRIBLE for sleeping! Summary: 2 Stars
Now-my opinion may be slightly...not the norm... Because I'm not pregnant. Just a super duper bed snob who enjoys a comfy bed :) I have a Select Comfort Sleep Number Bed, several Talalay Latex Foam pillows, a Water Filled Chiro Flow pillow, and a TempurPedic pillow. I like to sleep shrouded in pillow softness, lol... And I don't hesitate to spend $$ to get the level of comfort I'm accustomed to!
I bought this pillow to replace my Comfort U Total Body Pillow that I'd had since 2006. I thought the Back & Belly would be an awesome alternative because it looked so much more substantial. Boy, was I (mostly!) wrong! For lounging-this pillow is perfect! It folds into so many cool positions that are great for reading or watching TV in bed. But if you fall asleep on it... When I drape my legs over the ends, I wake up with sharp, shooting knee pain. (The weight of my legs pulls on my knee ligaments-and since the pillow IS so substantial-there's no give. I've been forced to use Bio Freeze for the last 2 weeks to ease the pain-it's that bad. ) My neck and shoulders are tight and crampy when I wake up. I can literally hear a gravelly sound when I roll my shoulders after waking. Not to mention the numbness and tingling in my hands and fingers-which after a Google search, I found out is a harbinger of impending cervical spine injury. And don't even try to turn it upside down and sleep w/the "U" side down (as one of the illustrations provided suggests)! I wake up twisted and tangled and SO uncomfortable!
The only way I can sleep with this pillow comfortably is to toss one half of it out of bed completely! Negating the point of having a "Back and Belly" pillow. All in all-a total waste. A physically painful and injurious waste at that! I give it 2 stars only for it's lounging benefits. I'll be trashing this-or maybe giving it to my dog-within the week as soon as my new Comfort U arrives. HATE it. And MAD that I wasted part of a perfectly good gift card on buying it! Ugh. :(
Customer Review: Excellent product! Summary: 4 Stars
I bought this pillow in November 2006 when I was only 22 weeks pregnant. I like the fact that it supports both the back and belly. This one appealed to me more than the Snoogle because of its shape. The Snoogle is a "C" shaped pillow, and looks smaller, which may work for small framed women and in a smaller bed. I have been using the Back 'N Belly pillow for approximately 8 weeks now and it's great! My back doesn't hurt anymore in the morning from sleeping and I don't have to worry about having five or six pillows stuffed around me everywhere and moving them with me every single time I want to change positions to sleep in.
The cover is machine washable which is great. I haven't had any issues with allergies or reaction to the fabric whatsoever like others with the BnB or Snoogle pillows have. However, it does take a little work to get the cover back on the pillow (ladies, have your partner help you).
I was concerned at first that the pillow would go flat, but it has not gone flat and I fluff it before getting into bed, so that may help. I do think it takes up quite a bit of space in the bed, but if you and your partner have plenty of space in the bed normally, then it'll be just fine. We have a queen-size bed where we had plenty of room around us in the bed before we got the pillow. The pillow doesn't seem to bother my husband at all. My one and only complaint is that its bulkiness keeps my husband and I from snuggling as much as I usually like, but I'm pregnant, so I know it won't last forever. ;)
This expense for an expecting mom is definitely worth the money. If there are any partners out there reading this review, I want to tell you that this pillow is a great gift you can give your honey for her to pamper herself with. And she'll love that you were thinking of her comfort. :)
Customer Review: The BEST maternity pillow!!!!!!!! So glad I have it!!!!! Summary: 5 Stars
I bought this pillow when I was 8 weeks pregnant with twins. I'm now 20 weeks pregnant and MUCH bigger :)
I have scoliosis so my back started hurting from very early on in the pregnancy, which is why I bought the pillow so early. The first night I slept with this pillow was the first night my back did NOT hurt. It was the answer to my back pain and still is. B/C it's U-shaped, I rest my legs on it, I prop my belly against it, and it supports my back wonderfully and helps me stay on my side and not fall to my back (I'm a strict back sleeper so the side sleeping is a challenge!)
I tested different ways to sleep in it and the best way for me is to have the open end head-up. That way I can sleep with my own down pillow and my head is very comfy. I have the support of the pillow back and front, and what's great is when I'm not feeling too great or having ligament pain and my feet need to be elevated, I prop them on the U part on the bottom and it keeps my feet up. So it's pretty much perfect.
Also, during this pregnancy I have very sore breasts and leaning them on the pillow also helps!!!
My hubby has taken advantage also. He leans on the other side of my pillow and loves it. So we all get something out of it.
I have a King size bed. We both fit great. My hubby is a big guy at 6'4" and 240 lbs and we have no problems fitting on the bed. He still pretty much gets his half :)
Also, I wear the heck out of this pillow. It's so durable yet flexible at the same time. I can get it to stay any way I want depending if I'm sitting, lounging to watch TV or sleeping. I love it's versatility.
I honestly don't know how I would manage sleep without this pillow!!! I can't even imagine having a body pillow with only one side like most I see out there. This is really the best!!
Customer Review: Not bad once you find a comfortable position Summary: 4 Stars
I do like this pillow, but not in the way everyone else does. I do not copy any of the positions as shown in the pictures that come with this product, because they are all too uncomfortable for me.
I purchased this when I was 3 months pregnant (barely showing). I am a 100% back-sleeper and could not continue that while pregnant, so I needed something to force me into sleeping sideways. I slept in it the first night as shown in the picture and slept horribly; I kept waking up throughout the night in uncomfortable, awkward positions and woke up in the morning with back pain. I threw the pillow on the side and did not touch it for several weeks.
I picked it up again as my belly got bigger and decided to give it a second chance. Actually I was determined to find some use for it after all the money I spent on it. Over a period of a few days, I slept on it different ways to see what I liked best. I turned it upside down, folded the arms into each other, all kinds of things, I was very creative.
Finally I found a position I REALLY like. It is hard to describe but basically if you think of the pillow as two legs, my head rests on the feet, and my behind sits in the crotch area, with my legs curled in. What I hated is how the legs would spread out really wide overnight and hang off the bed so I used a long piece of thin cloth to tie it closed, which worked wonderfully. Throughout the night I am constantly in this little trench in a sideways position. My husband calls it my "nest."
I think I would be more able to use it the regular way if the lining in the bend was not so stiff, hurting my neck. Also the design of the pillow just does not match the contours of my body. However, I MADE it work for me, so I am overall happy with the purchase.
Customer Review: It's great to be able to sleep well again! Summary: 5 Stars
It's been said before, but it bears repeating: this pillow is fantastic and does exactly what it's been made for. Is it perfect? No. Has it improved the quality of my sleep? Yes - immensely.
I received this pillow a week ago, I'm 21 weeks pregnant, and I'm 5'3" (almost).
Pros:
* Cradles you in sort of a "nest" so you can sleep on your side and be totally supported, front and back.
* I have arthritis in my back between L1 and L2. Sleeping anywhere but on my back usually kills me. With this, I wake up just as refreshed as if I'd gotten a regular, non-pregnant night's sleep.
* Doesn't take up the whole bed (we have a king-sized bed)
* When I wake up to go to the bathroom, I can snuggle right back down and not have to rearrange for 10 minutes like I was doing with my pile o'regular bed pillows.
* Now I don't disturb my husband by thrashing about, trying to find a comfy position.
Cons:
* Yes, the cover is not the smoothest, however, it's not like sleeping on burlap, either.
* It's slightly difficult to get in and out of, but I've found I can just push one pillow leg off the side of the bed and slide out without too much difficulty.
* If you are very tall, the pillow legs may not be long enough.
* The seam on the inside of the "U" part gets kind of taut and can dig into the inside your shoulder. I got used to this in about 15 minutes.
Bottom line:
After seven nights of great sleep (finally!), I would definitely recommend this pillow to someone who's not very tall. The support is great. The proportions are correct. If it squishes down to the extent that others have experienced, I'll gladly buy another one. Totally, totally worth it to get a great night's sleep!
