Baby Products Reviews of Lansinoh® HPA® Lanolin

Customer Review: The best gift you can give any breastfeeding mommy!
Summary: 5 Stars

I could not have survived breastfeeding without this stuff!

The fact is that even when I was breastfeeding over a year, and there was not a real need for it by then, I was still glad to know it was there.

Pros
It works like nothing else for irritated or inflamed skin, even diaper rash goes away with this stuff, if not a yeast diaper rash!

It works quickly.

It is very thick and helps protect the skin and does not harm baby if ingested!

It is 100% natural yellow waxy substance secreted by the sebaceous glands of wool-bearing animals and is a wax and not a fat.

You can find so many uses for the stuff beyond the main-designed purpose of breastfeeding.

Cons

Even at the store it is not cheap, and finding coupons and sales are not easy.

It is very hard to get out of tube but cut it open and it is perfect.

It can take a little getting used to if you are using it for breastfeeding, but it is not that bad.

Customer Review: Best thing I've tried for dry skin!!
Summary: 5 Stars

Concerned with possible health risks associated with certain ingredients in lotions, I was looking for an alternative to use on my baby's dry, eczema-prone skin. I tried a vegetable oil-based skin care product, and avocado oil, without effect. Lansinoh lanolin, however, has worked wonderfully on both my baby's skin and mine. His skin is soft, and the patches of eczema are gradually fading. I feel safe using it on him; when used for sore nipples, it does not need to be washed off prior to breastfeeding, so I don't worry if he mouths his skin after I have applied it.

When I use it on my own hands, lanolin persists even after a handwashing or two, much better than lotions. I use it on my lips, too! This is very thick stuff, so you may want to use it before bed.

I had some initial concerns regarding lanolin allergies, but we've had no problem. The back of this package reads, "Hypoallergenic," and, "Ultrapure medical grade, USP modified lanolin."

Customer Review: also the best for dry, chapped lips!
Summary: 5 Stars

I know that this product currently comes advertised as a product for breastfeeding mothers, but 20 years ago it was considered a much more versatile product, good for chapped lips, hands, and anything else that is very dry. I have chronic chapped lips, and Lanolin is the ONLY product that makes them heal correctly - without my becoming addicted to the cream (as they do with Blistex, Carmex, etc). But you should know that Lanolin feels icky and sticky when you put it on. You use it because it need it, not because you like the way it feels, smells, or tastes (though now, I've gotten used to it and even like it).

Customer Review: Start Using Before you Due Date
Summary: 5 Stars

I had an issue with very dry nipples and flaky in my fifth month of pregnancy. My doctor recommended Lansinoh to help with the dryness, so I used it from month five and continued while I nursed. I didn't have a lot of the soreness and chapping many women report and that was with a child who had an infection of his umbilical cord, making him want to nurse constantly both because he needed hydration and because he needed comfort. I truly believe that by condition my nipples with Lansinoh before I gave birth made them more pliant and supple and helped me be successful with nursing even with a bit of a rocky start.

Customer Review: Nursing Essential!
Summary: 5 Stars

With my first daughter, I experienced sore, bleeding, cracked nipples, which is horrible! I'd forgotten to bring this product to the hospital (as I got a tube at my baby shower). I started applying it after every feeding, and soon my nipples were healed. I recommend it for every mom as a proactive product. Use it when you begin breastfeeding, after feeding, and you may not experience much soreness. Now that I'm pregnant with my second baby, I plan to use it initially. I do recall that after using it for about 2-3 weeks, my nipples were strong enough to generally forgo using it.
