Baby Products Reviews of Kushies 5 Pack Reusable Ultra Diapers for Infants

Customer Review: Finally available at Babies R Us!!!
Summary: 5 Stars

We just had our baby (now 3 months old) and these diapers were not available thru our registry so we bought them ourselves online. I'm so happy they are finally being made available through Babies R Us and hope that more parents will use these instead of disposables. I love these diapers! They as just as easy to use as disposables and much more economical and environmentally friendly. Also they do not have the horrible, toxic gel chemicals most disposables have and babies who use cloth diapers are much less likely to get diaper rash. My one complaint is that they tend to leak. It took us forever to realize it wasn't our new parenting/lack of diapering skills. It's just the diapers. But, once we figured out that a simple diaper cover would do the trick, we haven't had a leak since. More people should use these and give our children a chance to grow up in a world with less dumps filled with disposable diapers.

Customer Review: Very Leaky
Summary: 1 Stars

We got these at a recommendation from a couple in our birthing class. We only bought one pack. For the price, we wanted to see if we liked them before making a large investment. Our son was premature, so our newborn Kushies were too large for him until he reached about 6 and 1/2 pounds, despite the fact that they were sized 4 to 10 pounds. I found that though well made and wash friendly, they are very leaky. I much prefer the used velcro wraps and cloth diapers we got from a friend. They NEVER leak. At night, because we don't change our son as frequently, to keep away diaper rash we use disposables, which are also leaky. The covers we got from a friend, can be used around the disposables, which keeps our son's clothing and sheets dry all night. I have since found another cloth diapering system that is virtually leak proof. I recommend buying several types before investing heavily into one CD system.

Customer Review: A great diaper after the newborn stage!
Summary: 4 Stars

I ordered some of the size infant and started using them on my daughter at about 4 weeks (10lbs) and had the worst messy leaks Imaginable! I susequently went back to read more reviews here and stumbled across a review that mentioned DiaperSafari.com. I called them and was informed that there is a known leak-problem with the Kushies Diapers for babies with loose stools. DiaperSafari(fantastic cust. service and products) recommended to use the Fuzzi Bunz diaper instead and they worked perfectly. I went back to using the Kushies Ultra at about 5 months when my daughters stools became more solid. I found the Kushies Ultra to work great then. They were snug around the legs and offered sufficient absorbency during the day. They do not perform too well as a night time diaper, simply because there is not enough fabric for the amount of urine that accumulates over night. (...)

Customer Review: WE ADORE OUR KUSHIES!!!!
Summary: 5 Stars

I see some other reviews talk about them falling apart in the first wash?! HUH?? I have been using and washing mine every 3 days for 15 months and they are in GREAT shape. Now, if you leave poop in them to set for a few days, then try to wash them, the poops will eat through the diapers, of that you can be sure. You do have to rinse the poops. Also, you can't wash them in bleach. Bleach kills cloth diapers. As far as absorbancy, well, you do need to take care to get them adjusted right, and as with any diapers in general, not all dipes work for all babies.

Keep in mind that the sewn in inner liner is really not meant for extra absorbancy, it is more of a poop catcher so that you might get away with only rinsing the inner liner and not the whole diaper.

We adore our Kushies. And I REALLY give them a big big thumbs up!!!

Customer Review: Work better on larger babies
Summary: 3 Stars

Update: we've had more success as baby grows. I'd say these are best for about 15lbs.

I didn't look at the dates on these reviews, but wish I had. Kushies aren't bad, but they don't even compare to the latest diapering systems.

Pros:
All in one. No folding, stuffing, etc.
Relatively inexpensive for a cloth diaper.

Cons:
Poor fit. Very very narrow in the crotch, very long. (my 11 week old is about 11lbs & the crotch is barely big enough to cover her. The front comes up past her navel.)
Because of the fit, lots of leaks--straight out the sides.
Takes FOREVER to dry--in the dryer, over an hour & still damp in the center. 80deg sunny day outside longer than a bath towel on the line. Inside drying rack, don't bother--12 hrs still damp.
