Baby Products Reviews of Kushies 5 Pack Reusable Ultra Diapers for Infants

Customer Review: AWESOME, AWESOME, AWESOME
Summary: 4 Stars

Excellent diaper overall. I gave it only 4 stars because I feel there is always room for improvement. These diapers do exactly what they are intended to do, and they are very easy to use. How hard is to do a few extra loads of laundry a week anyway? Don't listen to the bad reviews saying they leak. They only leak if you don't put them on right; if there is a big space between your child's legs and the diaper, of course it's going to leak. One thing that I find a little annoying is that the fold back laundry tabs don't hold well in the washer and dryer which causes some of the diapers to stick together and not dry very efficiently. Buy or make fleece liners to use with cloth diapers. Fleece liners wick moisture away from your baby's bum and keep them dry. My daughter wakes up after sleeping 12 hours, and her bum is DRY even though the diaper is super soaked. Also, poop doesn't stick to fleece, and they wash great. I have both the Ultra and Classic, and they both work great.

Customer Review: Good, affordable, reliable diaper
Summary: 4 Stars

I used these diapers for my first child. They are extremely durable and very well made. I did not have any leaks with these diapers and do not have any stains or tears from having used them for over a year now. I found that if I thew in a dry towel with the diapers in the dryer, they would dry much quicker. I have a large deck and often times I would dry the diapers and inserts on my deck out in sun, then throw them in the dryer later to soften them up. With my second child I've switched to BumGenius diapers. The thing about Kushies diapers is that once the diaper is wet, it's wet. I wish the inner lining of Kushies was a fleece liner, to wick away the moisture (the way BumGenius diapers are). You can't beat Kushies' price. But if you want a diaper that will keep your baby's skin dry against the diaper, you don't want Kushies. BumGenius has been wonderful because it's keeps my baby's bottom nice and dry and it comes in a size that grows with your child (10lbs-35lbs)

Customer Review: Better than disposables!
Summary: 5 Stars

I have a small baby that I bought the Kooshies for. He came home at just over 6 pounds and 20 inches long (long and lanky), so the newborn size still seemed a little bulky (although he did not seem to care). I tried to use both preemie and newborn sized disposable for the short term and for visits and they both leaked so badly that I had to change his clothes almost every time! This is with three different people putting them on. As a result I bring the Kooshies with me even on the go! They are soft and absorbant and leak far less than the two disposables I tried. TRY KOOSHIES, YOU WILL NOT BE SORRY!!!

UPDATE:

Now that my baby is a little bigger (around 9.5 pounds, 23 inches), I am still using the newborn size with a folded liner in front. This significantly reduces leakage of urine on the overnight. Although the disposables are working better than they did, the Kooshies still work just as good, if not better. I still love the Kooshies.

Customer Review: great diapers!!
Summary: 5 Stars

These are great diapers. I've used them since baby was about 3 weeks old. I would put a liner in with the diaper and it hardly ever leaked. When baby got to be about 2 months the diaper fit well and snug and never leaked. They are very sturdy. I wash them in the machine and dry them in the dryer on medium. They are still in good shape and stay nice and white inside. I recommend getting from 15-20. I usually wash every day, but sometimes I wash every other day. When baby was 2 months and in daycare for a week full-time. I talked to the center about using these diapers and they accomdated. It was very easy. I would put a disposable liner in with the diaper. I brought my own diaper pail and would leave it there. I put a leak-proof and machine washable bag in the pail and I would grab that when I took baby home. A piece of cake. Threw the diapers in the wash when I got back home and had plenty of time to spend with baby. Good for the planet and good for baby.

Customer Review: Good transition from disposables
Summary: 5 Stars

No one else I know uses cloth diapers, and I had used disposables before, so this diaper has been a great transition for me. They work exactly like disposables, except you wash them instead of throwing them away. If you breastfeed exclusively, the diapers won't actually get "stained," at least until you start on solid foods (we haven't yet). I'll get maybe one stained diaper out of a washload of ten, and that disappears if you hang it up in sunlight for a few hours, and I don't even pre-soak or pre-treat them. I thought the diaper pail would be really stinky. It's not... we keep it in our bedroom.

Two caveats: The Ultras are superior to the Classic, and using a cloth liner with this diaper is a MUST if you don't want a leak or a blowout. I bought the Kushies cloth liners, but you can make your own if you have a sewing machine. All you do is sew a little rectangle of 2 pieces of absorbant fabric and finish the edges.
