Baby Products Reviews of Kushies 5 Pack Reusable Ultra Diapers for InfantsCustomer Review: These are great... but the minimum weight wasn't quite right Summary: 5 Stars
I was excited to pull out my infant sized Kushies for my baby when she hit ten pounds... but to my dismay, they leaked all over the place. Also, my young breastfed baby was pooping constantly, so I was changing her entire outfit every hour b/c of leaks. Ugh. I was afraid the diapers weren't going to work out at all. But then when my baby got to be 13-14 pounds I brought out the Kushies for another chance, and now they work like a dream! Plus, my baby is pooping less often these days, so I'm not changing her as often. But we're really excited about these diapers...I even bought mine used, and even though they have some wear, they are still working great. So, my recommendation is that if the Kushies aren't working out for your baby, wait a few pounds and then give the diapers another chance. I'm really, really happy with them now. Oh, one more thing-- someone complained that the diapers were "wicking" moisture out. I had this problem too, but I wasn't quite fastening the diapers tightly enough around the leg-- play around with how you are fastening the velcro if you have wicking.
Customer Review: First time trying cloth 4 Stars
I have two boys under two years of age and wanted to try these diapers since they have sensitive skin. I have been using disposable up to this point so I'm used to the change and throw away convienance of disposable. I tried it on both of my boys and have to say I was pleasantly surprised by the absorbancy. When you use disposables anything else seems like work, but I have to say I like this product because of how well they come clean and they do they same job as the disposables. They are a little bulkie so my sons pants seem a little tighter but so far no leaks. I bought the 5 pack to try and I will be buying more since it's really not that much more work to clean them. I'm very happy with this product and after my mom saw them, she wished she had them when I was a baby. She was impressed that you didn't have to dunk the diaper in the toilet, just throw away the soiled bio sheet in the toilet. This is a great product, I will be buying more and I recommend it to anyone wanting to try cloth diapering. Kushies also has a great website with laundering information that was very helpful.
Customer Review: Easy to use, but I'm diasappointed with early wear-and-tear Summary: 3 Stars
I have just switched to using cloth diapers for my 9 month old, and started with about 20 Kushies brand diapers. Although I'm finding the diapers quite easy to use (especially with a disposable liner, which was the only way I could get my husband on board with the cloth diapering idea, and which makes dealing with a soiled diaper MUCH, much easier) I am surprised to find that the cover material is starting to fray and tear after just a few launderings. I've followed the manufacturer's instructions for washings, and am alternating between some line-drying and low-heat dryer drying. The material seems to tear easily near the stitching along the velcro tabs, and at the top of the waist. Also, my daughter has already figured out how to pull the velcro tabs open, so I think we'll soon be switching to the Blue Penguin SposoEasy brand, which have snaps and a sturdier material on the cover.
In general, cloth diapering is a lot easier than I thought. If you are thinking about trying it, give it a go-- but do read more product reviews that I did before you invest in the diapers.
Customer Review: Under-rated, great value AIO Summary: 4 Stars
I have used these diapers from months 4 through 10 (and counting) in a large rotation of other diapers (from prefolds to BumGenius Organics) and finally feel qualified to write a review. Overall, I have been very pleased.
Like all cloth diapers, your success wth a particular brand/style may depend on your baby's build and activity level. We have a small/avg baby and these definitely didn't fit him at 10 lbs, probably more like 12-14. He was EBF at that point still and these didn't have a problem handling the waste. Now at 10 months, these are DH's go to diaper for fast diaper changes on a squiggler. The fabric stays inside the waterproof, so there's no adjusting or checking to make sure it's all tucked in, and the easy one step velcro is fast. The only problem I am seeing is that as DS gets bigger around, the top can fold down a little bit, causing wicking. I also don't know that they will last for another baby's worth of use, the cotton is starting to pill and the PUL is getting stiff. But at $8/diaper opposed to the BG O at $25/diaper, defintely a fabulous value.
Customer Review: Best washable diapers I've found..and boy did I look! Summary: 5 Stars
I've tried all sorts of washable diapers and I was delighted when I found these. I didn't know I could be so happy about a diaper. They fit wonderfully around the waste and the legs. Leaks do happen but rarely...usually if you skip a change. They let just enough moisture through to let you know that the diaper is wet and it's time to change it but not enough to get clothes wet. They are so soft and comfortable. They're super easy to wash. The middle flap can be adjusted for all over additional absorbency or folded for extra absorbency in just the middle or back. When you use the flushable liners, poop is sooo easy to clean...just peel off the liner and flush it or throw it in the diaper pail with the disposables...a little messy without the liners though. No need for a cover in most cases...sometimes they come in handy at bed time though. They save you money in the long run, even if you only use them one day per week to give your baby's bum a break from disposables. So easy to put on even my husband could do it. :-)
