Baby Products Reviews of Kidkusion Gummi Crib Rail

Customer Review: Works well for us
Summary: 4 Stars

We purchased this gummi rail because our daughter's crib does not have the typical straight-edge rail along the top but a curved rail so a regular hard-plastic teething rail would not work.

We didn't have any problem installing it - we made sure we gave it at least 8 hours to 'set' before letting my daughter get near it and we haven't had any problems with it coming loose (it's been on for a few weeks now).

My daughter seems to enjoy biting on the rail even more now that there's gummi softness on it and I feel better knowing she's not digging into the wood of the crib or ruining her teeth in the process.

I think it's imporant to follow the directions carefully and that's maybe the reason some other people have had problems - the directions are very specific about cleaning the rail with rubbing alcohol before applying the gummi rail, and to be careful about not stretching the gummi rail as you're applying it (this is emphasized in the instructions several times), and then to let it 'set' for 8-10 hours before letting baby in the crib. For removal the instructions suggest using the hair dryer to loosen the adhesive before pulling off.

I'm pleased with the purchase and will definitely recommend this to others.

Customer Review: Protection for baby and crib!
Summary: 4 Stars

With our first baby we had a traditional crib with one drop down side(Simplicity was the brand), and bought those plastic rail covers that "snap-on" to the crib rail. Those were horrible, they were too small and only covered the actual rail. My son, like most babies just chewed the short sides of the crib where there was no rail cover. With our newest addition we purchased a crib that did not have the typical railing (Bonavita brand crib). This crib was a lot pricier than our first crib and we were at a loss as to what to do when our baby began chewing on the rail. The crib is large and has many carved wood accents to it, it does not have a typical rail that the plastic snap on type rail guards would fit. I searched the internet and found this Gummi Rail guard. It is a rubbery material that claims to be non-toxic and medical grade. It comes as one long strip that has adhesive on its underside. You just clean your crib surface that you will attach it to and stick it on. DO let it set and don't disturb the rail for a few hours as suggested on the box. We didn't and a corner began lifting slightly. Other than that, I can not imagine a crib that this would not work for. Buy two so that you can protect all the surfaces of the crib baby can chew on.

Customer Review: Adhesive not perfect, but I have another suggestion
Summary: 4 Stars

So, the adhesive started peeling up for us after a few hours, and we tried the hairdryer reapplication. I don't know how that would have worked because we instead came up with the following solution:

This will only work if you have standard, not overly thick rails. We had the 4-piece Prince Lionheart crib rails before, but they were a joke because she could rip them right off. But then we discovered that we could put the Prince Lionheart ones OVER the Gummi Crib Rail, and they're wedged on tightly now. Now the adhesive problem of the Gummi Crib Rail is solved because the Prince Lionhearts are holding it down, and the too-easy-to-pull-off problem of the Prince Lionhearts are solved because the Gummi Crib Rail wedges them on.

Anyway, this will only work for you if the Prince Lionhearts fit your crib rail in the first place but are fairly easy to pull off. Great solution if it works on your crib though!

Customer Review: Bittersweet resolution
Summary: 4 Stars

I bought the Gummi Crib Rail *after* my son had already chewed up part of his crib rail. I applied it according to the directions to the letter. It has been about a week and the crib rail has come up at the same spot where my son (still) bites and where the damage was done before. So everything else is intact. Of course I can't be sure, but I think if I had applied the Gummi Crib Rail way before he ever started teething and before any damage had occurred that it might have adhered better and quite possibly have done the job 100%. So my advice is that you apply this product before your child ever starts teething. Also, this will help comply with part of the instructions in that the crib rail needs to be left alone for 6 to 8 hours after application because a small, super-young infant of course won't be tampering with it! I would try this again on a new crib if that should ever be the case for us.

Customer Review: Not for All Cribs
Summary: 2 Stars

I had to give this product a two-star rating because of the false claim that it fits all cribs. We purchased this for our convertible crib, which has a higher back than front and curved, sloping head and footboards connecting them. The problem I ran into is that the Gummi Crib Rail only had a thin line of adhesive on each side of the strip. So far, it works great on the smooth, flat inside of the head and footboards, but it was not able to adhere well to the outside, which had a small lip right where the adhesive is on the gummi strip. After a good half hour of pressing the gummi strip into the crevice with the edge of a pair of scissors, it seemed to be securely attached - for about four days. No amount of heat seems to be enough to reactivate the adhesive. That said, this product may be perfect for cribs with perfectly flat sides. For anything else, you might want to look elsewhere.
