Baby Products Reviews of Kiddopotamus SwaddleMe Organic 100% Cotton Knit, Large, Natural

Customer Review: Is your baby long, but lean?
Summary: 4 Stars

We've used a SwaddleMe (size S/M) since my son was just weeks old. At two months though, he was already 23 1/2 inches long. Although the S/M still fit around the chest, his legs were getting bunched up in it. I ordered this SwaddleMe (size L) even though he was almost 2 lbs lighter than the product recommends. The length is great, but as anticipated, he could get out of it easily since he's not yet 15 lbs. So..... I sewed on a couple of 4 inch strips of Velcro to extend the wrapping closure area. Now I can wrap him up tight enough so he can't wiggle out and his legs have plenty of room to grow.

I gave 4 stars because it would be nice if the transition from the S/M size to Large was more seamless. Ideally, by the time a baby outgrows one size (whether it be because of weight or length) they should be able to move into the next size.

Customer Review: awsome
Summary: 5 Stars

My son was wiggling out of blankets all the time, then he would get cold and fuss. This keeps him tucked in very well. I noticed you're supposed to be able to change a diaper with it, but if you use the inner velcro to hold him in better, you can't get to a diaper without pulling it apart first. I don't care about that though, so yeah, I love it and will definately be buying the next size up when he grows out of this one!

The organic cotton is very nice. I felt the regular cotton, organic cotton, and the fleece in a store. The fleece was itchy and scratchy (like most polyester fleece), the regular cotton was smoothe, and the organic was smoothe and soft.

And fyi: there is a little slit in the back to check a diaper without removing the swaddle. I have a good nose, so I won't be using it, but it's there if you care.

Customer Review: Baby hated it.
Summary: 2 Stars

I bought a bunch of these just before the baby was born. As I was getting ready to be discharged from the hospital after giving birth, the pediatrician told us to only swaddle the baby for two weeks. When we got home, my baby let us know that she didn't like being swaddled by squirming her way out of it and making noises that she was unhappy in it. So we never used these after the day we left the hospital.

If you buy these... only buy one or two. Just in case your baby hates swaddling plus the useful life of this product is short.

An alternate product to this one is the Halo SleepSack. I wish I would have bought these instead of the SwaddleMe blanket (straight jacket). The SleepSack has a much better design and the useful life is longer. My baby stays warm but not overly so. It is well designed.

Customer Review: great, easy swaddle
Summary: 5 Stars

This swaddle is very soft and enough layer if your house isn't too cold. We also put a blanket on our baby from the belly down over the swaddle when it was cold. This was really the only swaddle I could find that fit an older baby. We used the Miracle Blanket for months, and after he grew out of that, we switched to this one. My son wanted to be swaddled until he was 8 months. This swaddle was a good transition swaddle for him, because we could wrap it loosely and let him break his arms out as he got older. This helped him transition to no swaddle at all. I definitely recommend this product. It would be good for summer in warm climates too where you want to swaddle but are concerned about overheating.

Customer Review: good blanket but not houdini proof for us
Summary: 4 Stars

We ordered this one because our daughter outgrew the smaller size, at around 10 weeks. The bigger size is good, however she managed to get her arms out nightly. We're still dealing with newborn reflexes, so we've started encorporating this into a "double-swaddle" technique that we saw on youtube, via thebump.com. It works like a charm at this point, and she'll be 3 months tomorrow. The fabric is nice, and it's very easy care, so that's of course an added bonus. I also found this to be less cumbersome to wrap a sleeping baby, than the miracle blanket.
