Baby Products Reviews of Kiddopotamus SwaddleMe Microfleece, Small, IvoryCustomer Review: Swaddle Me is a True Sanity Saver!!! Summary: 5 Stars
The swaddle me is an absolute must have for parents who choose to swaddle their baby. The swaddle me is very easy to use and best of all it keeps the baby swaddled and does not come undone. Most parents find that receiving blankets are difficult to get snug and don't work well as their baby gets bigger. The swaddle me is the perfect solution as it comes in size small up to 4 months and large up to 7 months. It is a good quality product and has withstood many washings. The velcro is just as strong as the day we bought it. They are a lot more affordable than other products at only $10 each compared to the miracle blanket that is $35 by the time you pay for shipping. Plus I like the swaddle me the best because it is much easier than receiving blankets and the miracle blanket to take on and off for middle of the night feedings and diaper changes. This is an excellent product and a must have for any baby shower registry. We use the swaddle me every night for our daughter while the receiving blankets and miracle blanket have been sitting in her closet gathering dust! One little note though... it works best for babies at least 9-10 pounds as I felt it was up in my baby's face too much before that weight and made me nervous about smothering.
Customer Review: Nice blanket, but... Summary: 3 Stars
When preparing to have our first child I bought one of each kind of swaddle, not knowing what we would like the best. We've also tried the standard 'receiving' blanket and some nice stretchy ones. This one we liked the least. My baby wiggles a lot when settling for sleep and every time she moved she would hear the velcro coming apart a little and it would bother her. She had a very hard time falling asleep in it. The Miracle blanket works best for her because it does a better job at keeping her arms down than others and doesn't have noisy velcro on it. I've also tried the sleep sacks. As she's getting more and more arm control I'm finding that she is slowly liking the "Halo Sleep Sack" better, but at night she still needs her arms confined. I also like the sleep sack idea because it is only one layer of blanket (where this SwaddleMe is two in the front when closed. The other thing I didn't like about the SwaddleMe or the Miracle Blanket is that with my baby's wiggling she invariably ends up with a gap between the feet sack and the top part and since we tend to use t-shirts rather than onsies her belly gets exposed and cold. So, I wouldn't recommend this for an active, noise sensitive baby.
Customer Review: Does Not Work for Exceptionally Squirmy Baby Summary: 3 Stars
If I could use one word to describe my baby in his first 4 months, and even in my last three months of pregnancy, I would say SQUIRMY! If your baby is exceptionally squirmy, he will just simply wiggle his way easily out of it. I would suggest mastering a traditional swaddle with a good-size blanket; small, cutesy ones don't work that great for swaddling. The concept of SwaddleMe is great, but there are two main things that I found problematic: the flap of the pouch that you put baby's feet in needs to come up a lot higher than an inch or two above the velcroed arm part, otherwise baby can get his hands out of it easily, and also if the material were a little less stretcy, baby wouldn't be able to wiggle so much inside the blanket.
I've found that the main benefit of swaddling is helping calm baby by getting himself under control, with warmth being a secondary perk. I rolled my eyes at my mother when she gave me some old cut-up king size sheets to swaddle my baby in, but they kept him from getting too hot in heavy swaddle layers, and they definitely weren't stretchy! Thanks mom! If you don't have any old sheets that you want to cut, fabric is generally low-priced.
Customer Review: Our Favorite & ONLY Swaddler Summary: 5 Stars
The SwaddleMe emerged as our favorite swaddler so quickly that we stopped using anything else the by the second week our baby was home. She started sleeping 6 hours at night by 6 weeks, and 8-9 hours by 7 weeks and I'm sure that this tight swaddle had a lot to do with it. The design is just the most efficient and effective of everything we tried (Miracle Blanket, Woombie, receiving blankets). I did notice that it could ride up and come close to covering baby's mouth when her chin was positioned more toward her neck. I solved this by positioning the blanket so that it started just at her shoulders.
Another reviewer mentioned that the velcro pulled when their baby moved and the sound woke her up. The velcro sound has woken my baby when putting her in, but not during sleep. I just bounce her back to sleep once she's all wrapped up and deal, because the velcro keeps her asleep where she would wiggle out of the miracle blanket.
We bought the organic cotton style for warmer weather, but for some reason the velcro on the fleece is much stronger.
All in all, a great product and an essential item in our household!
Customer Review: Buy the gingham instead! Summary: 4 Stars
I *LOVE* this product. It's a far better velcro swaddler than the other brands because it uses bigger patches of velcro. In comparison to a blanket, this is much easier to use and provides much more durable swaddles. I'm quite good with a blanket, but by six weeks of age, my son could wriggle out. On the other hand, at three months, he's never wriggled out of the cotton flannel Swaddleme.
However, even in cold weather, the microfleece is too hot. Several times I've felt under the blanket to find my son sweaty. It's even worse when we combine the swaddle with a sling. On the other hand, the cotton knit (solid colors) blankets are too stretchy - my son quickly converts his knit Swaddleme into a toga, leaving both arms flying free. The cotton flannel (gingham prints) has less stretch than the other two fabrics, and plenty enough cover to keep a baby warm at indoor temperatures. It is trickier to find, but worth the search.
The microfleece Swaddleme does, however, make a great non-swaddle blanket on cold days, particularly when the baby is in a front carrier. The velcro is quite versatile.
