Baby Products Reviews of Kiddopotamus SwaddleMe 100% Cotton Knit, Small, Circle BearCustomer Review: Great for babies who like to be swaddled, but only works for a while Summary: 3 Stars
Kiddopotamus & Co SwaddlemeŽ Adjustable Infant Wrap 100% Cotton Knit Small, Circle Bear Print We used several of these with our daughter. They were really easy to get her in and out of and kept her all snug and secure. After it had been washed several times, though, the velcro stopped holding as well. It was partly due to her being more wiggly, though. I had some old ones and some new ones. The newer ones are better because they have flaps for the velcro to hold onto so that it doesn't stick to everything in the wash. There is a slit in the back so that you can use this in a car seat. That is COMPLETELY ridiculous. I can't imagine how that would work, besides, it would be a safety hazard unless you left the baby's arms out. They come in polyester and cotton. The cotton ones are much nicer.I would suggest trying one, because they really were nice for a while. If they work for you, you would probably want at least one more to put in the laundry rotation.
Customer Review: Pros and cons Summary: 4 Stars
I have 2 fleece ones. Got one as a gift and then I bought an extra one later because baby spits up sometimes.
Pros:
Baby sleeps peacefully in it
Can wrap the baby's arms tight so she doesn't squirm
Makes breastfeeding easier -- no hands in the way!
Cons:
The bottom part where her legs go is not long enough-- it starts her kick-reflex and it frustrates her sometimes. I have to shush her for a few seconds then she forgets about the problem.
My baby slides down into the bottom part sometimes (even though she is wrapped tightly) and the top part of the wrap starts to cover her mouth and eventually her nose. I have to re-wrap her when this happens (this happens mostly after I burp her after feedings). She does not like the process of being wrapped, so I have to calm her down.
I would still buy another one of these if needed and I do plan on getting the bigger size once she gets longer/bigger.
Customer Review: Too Stretchy! Summary: 2 Stars
My son lived in his Kiddopotamus fleece until he outgrew it/it got too hot. When we went up a size, I got the cotton knit, figuring it would be a similarly fantastic product. Unfortunately, I was mistaken.
The whole idea of swaddling is to keep baby nice and tightly snuggled in, and the fleece did a fantastic job because it didn't have much stretch. The cotton knit can be stretched to about two times its length. My (formerly blissfully quietly sleeping) three-month-old would wiggle out within 15 minutes and wail until I'd rescue him and repeat the process. I eventually threw it out.
The other drawback to all the Kiddo's is that they use velcro. So if you have an angel who will sleep through diaper changes (they do exist!) you will absolutely certainly wake him or her while unfastening the velcro. I found that the Amazing Miracle Blanket was a five-star product. Once I got that one, I even gave up on the fleece Kiddo!
Customer Review: We LOVE this blankie! Summary: 5 Stars
We love this blanket so much, we've given it a name! My baby only stayed swaddled until she was about 2 weeks, then could wiggle out of even the tightest wrap and cried almost all night. Then of course would sleep all day... then would be wide awake at night again! It was frustrating! When she was about 6 weeks, I remembered that I had bought this Kiddopotamus blanket (it was just sitting in the closet) and thought I'd try swaddling again. That night, she slept 9 hours straight! Every night since, she sleeps at least 7 hours, and some days as much as 10! Unlike other swaddle blankets I have, this blanket is soft and stretchy so she can move a little if she is uncomfortable (but arms stay in there) and you can open the bottom easily for diaper changes or when the temp is warmer. We think it's a lifesaver for those who like to sleep at night. I think it has magic powers. ;) And, it's cheap!
Customer Review: happy mommy Summary: 5 Stars
Even though my husband and I watched the "happiest baby on the block" DVD while still in the hospital, I never got the hang of swaddling (my husband, however, can swaddle our son super tight). I purchased this and the much more expensive Miracle Blanket at the same time. The swaddleme is so easy to use and the velcro makes it stay nicely. I will say that my son is particularly adept at wrangling one of his arms out through the course of the night, but he seems to still sleep as long as both of them aren't out waving in the air. I take the swaddleme in the diaper bag in case he gets to worked up and needs to calm down (sometimes swaddling is the only thing that will work for him). He is now 13 lbs and a happy baby.
