The Angle-Mount Wood Safeway Gate is an extension of the series rated number one for the top of a stairs by a leading independent consumer organization.This Wood Safeway has Angle-Mount hardware that allows the gate to be installed in any position, including angled banisters and walls.
Features include: one hand, adult operated walk though gate; Angle-Mount hardware system; Quick release hardware for easy gate removal; and furniture grade wood construction. It stands 31in high making it great for children and pets.
Basic gate fits openings 28˝in - 43in. Space between the bars range from approx. 2in to 2.25in.
Optional extension kits G32-9.

Customer Review: r/t Assembly and innitial operation only, not longevity.

It came, we saw, we conquered. My 15 y/o daughter and I had a whale of a good time putting this gate together. Some of the parts make sense, like the hinges, and others were just an enigma, like the parts that 'clamp' the two gate sections together. Mid assembly, I was called away and when I got back, she had the hinges assembled and the gate 'set' in place for a prelim look see. To be honest, she didn't quite have the multi-postional latch in the correct postion to allow for open/close operation in our configuration, but I know she would have once the gate had been installed. The hinges are not screwed into the door trim yet so I am not able to report on it's operation at this time. I will add comments on all the other pertenant aspects of the gate later. Given all the comments about poor directions and the relativley difficult assmebly I just had to write in about our experience.
The 'furniture grade' wood is straight as an arrow, (no warping), and the two sections fit closely together where they overlap. The wood of the gate proper is fairly well finished with a coat of something like clear urethane and the plastic parts are a warm dark tan color that do not seem to detract from the overall 'natural' look of the gate.
If you are not a DIY kind of person, I do not recommend this gate. On the otherhand, if you have a handy-person around, throw them a bone...they'll love the challenge, and the gate is really vey nicely made. Fitting some of the parts together may be complex but the synergy allows for a very attractive wood gate.
I'd be happy to answer addt'l questions in the comment section and I will be adding/editing this review as I progress toward final installation. I'll try and post pictures as well.

It's installed. I've tried to upload some pictures but I think the Amazon upload process is down or faulty. I'll try again later. So far, I am very pleased with the operation. Please Note! this gate does not have a spring loaded closure. Also, to open, you must grasp the closure, using your thumb you must retract and hold the sping loaded catch located on the top of the gate rail, then lift the entire gate, (about 5/8"), so that the pins on the open/close side clear the holes in the mounted brackets. Then push the gate open, past the pin brackets and let it back down the 5/8" all in one movement. Closing is slightly simpler; pull the gate to the pin brackets, grasp the rail, lift the gate, pull it shut, (thumb latch retracks automatically), and lower letting the pins engage in the brackets. My application does not require me to use an addt'l piece on the closure that prevents the gate from opening over a stairway, but this addt'l piece appears substantial and should work fine if necessary. Another safety measure is incorporated into the closure that prevents lifting the gate out of the pin brackets without having first retracted the spring loaded catch. It would be difficult to describe the operation but my guess is that it too should work for years if necessary. I think the lift/open/close operation works fine but my daughter doesn't like it. I suppose you could spend hundreds on a gate that swings shut by itself and closes with a definitive metalic 'click', (if you could find one), but we don't intend to keep this gate up forever and it should serve it's intended purpose for as often as we need it. And it looks nice too.
