Baby Products Reviews of Kidco PeaPod Plus Indoor/Outdoor Travel Bed, RedCustomer Review: Great product! Summary: 5 Stars
This thing is great! I have a big, sweet ten month old who I've been dragging around the country for the last two weeks, this thing saved our lives! My little one is not the world's easiest sleeper, especially when traveling, off his schedule, in new places, etc., so we're always looking for anything that will help. We have used the Pack and Play (several of them) numerous times but it is so heavy, cumbersome, and a pain to travel with, I needed a more practical alternative. I'm a small lady and have been traveling solo with kiddo, on and off planes, trains and automobiles, in small apartments, the beach, etc., and the PeaPod Plus was incredibly helpful getting my son to sleep comfortably and through the night. The dark color is super helpful keeping light out (absolutely key when traveling just about anywhere from the west coast), and the mesh screen can be zipped up so you know even a roller can't work their way out of bed, etc. Also, I think the enclosed space made my kid feel safe and not so freaked out when he'd wake up in a new place. Honestly, I'm so pleased with this purchase, worth it's weight in gold . . . more actually, it's very light weight. I debated about getting the smaller one, but this was definitely the right one to get, the smaller would have been way too small and it doesn't come with an air mattress (which is super comfy and worked well). As for the folks who seem to have had trouble putting this away, I think they must have had a defective tent, or didn't read the directions, it's so incredibly simple, and I did it numerous times by myself, you just need to read the directions once and you get it. As for the complaint that the tent gets hot, it does get warm in there, but certainly not uncomfortable, and I just adjusted by taking a layer off my kid. Honestly, I'm picky and hate products that are even remotely complicated to deal with and I really recommend this!
Customer Review: The perfect peapod for our sweetpea Summary: 5 Stars
We bought the Peapod Plus through Amazon in 2008 and it's been great. We purchased the bed for our daughter who was then 28 months for an overseas trip. She had reached the point where she could climb out of a pack-and-play, so we needed something different. Our daughter loves her tent bed and it helps give her a familiar surrounding when she's in an unfamiliar house or hotel room.
We made sure that we ordered the bed a few weeks before we traveled and we initially set up the bed on our daughter's bedroom floor. We gave her the option of sleeping in her bed or in the tent at nap time and night time. She chose to sleep in the tent for a few nap times and one night time before we traveled. We were careful to make sure that the tend bed was a positive experience for her before we first traveled with it. Then when we did travel, she was excited to see her tent bed with its sleeping bag come out of the suitcase. When we travel we set up the tent with our daughters pillow, one of two of her stuffed toy friends, an extra blanket, and her flashlight.
The Peapod Plus has been durable for us, and it has survived spilled milk, flooded diapers, and a sleepless night of throwing up in a hotel room. Despite all that, it's not torn and it's not stained.
Setting it up is a breeze. Folding it up does take some practice, and you may even need to read the relatively simple instructions ... but please don't tell anyone that I actually had to read the instructions! When folded up, it's not tiny, but it fits OK in our larger suitcases and is relatively light.
Having been used locally, interstate, and overseas ... at home, at both grandparents' homes, and in hotel rooms, I only have good things to say about the PeaPod Plus Travel Bed.
Customer Review: BEST BABY PRODUCT WE HAVE Summary: 5 Stars
My husband and I love the peapod plus. We have been using it for 4 months now since our son was born. We use it several times a week and both think it is the best baby product we have. I registered for it because a friend suggested I do; I had never even heard of it before. And when I received it, I thought, "Oh, that's nice. I guess we'll use it some." Boy was I wrong, this thing rocks! We use it all the time. We have done a lot of traveling in the last few months to visit the grandparents, vacation, out of town weddings, camping (we put the peapod up inside our tent) and the peapod is so easy to transport. It is lightweight and so easy to set up. I have a playyard, which maybe i will eventually use as a playpen for short spurts when I need him contained, but it is heavy and makes me feel weak and stupid when I try to fold it up. The most difficult part in setting up and packing up the peapod is the air mattress, which only really takes a few minutes even if you blow it up by mouth (a hand pump is included). So we use it as a travel bed and have also used it for going to the local pool or to the lake, where we all swim for a little bit and then the baby can play in the peapod's shade and then take a nap. I love that it keeps him in the shade and keeps the bugs out. My husband and I play soccer with friends once a week and we bring the peapod along, and put the BrightStarts Playplace in it (another great product), and the baby is entertained for quite a while so we can both play for longer chunks of time. We leave the peapod in the trunk so we have it handy; I can just pop it up at a friend's house if we will be there during his nap. I can't say enough great things about it.
Customer Review: LOVE this!! Would buy it again and pay more. Summary: 5 Stars
My two year old has a very difficult time going to sleep and staying asleep. To say that this has caused havoc in our lives would be an understatement. I bought this with some hope that just having a "cool" place to sleep might help him, even temporarily. I purchased the blue camo model because it has a self-inflating mattress. It was delivered one month ago. Since then we have take a long road trip and stayed at my parents' house for two weeks. We used the tent (as we call it) in the hotel and at my parents' house. We now use it on top of his toddler bed at home. This thing is a miracle for our family. My son goes to bed, stays in bed and sleeps all night most nights. It is SO easy to set up and take down. It folds into a size that my older children (ages 10 and 9) can carry easily. It folds like a sunshade and the mattress squishes down to fold and can be placed under the elastic strap with the tent. The bag allows enough room for his blanket, small stuffed animal and a couple of board books as well. I am back to buy two more for my other two young boys (ages 4 years and seven months). I plan to sell my Pack and Play as this is so much more space efficient and more portable. My only complaint is that I can't get any model other than the LIME or CAMO with a self-inflating mattress. I would gladly purchase the mattress separately but can't find that either.
If you have young children I HIGHLY recommend you get this as part of the essential baby gear!!
Customer Review: Love this for traveling!! Summary: 5 Stars
We recently took 2 trips (on airplanes) with my 20 month old daughter and she slept wonderfully in this bed/tent!! She has never slept in a pack 'n play, and usually has a tough time sleeping in other places, so I was really pleased that it worked so well. It's small enough and light enough to stick in our suitcase too which was great (it was a big suitcase though)! We used a crib sheet and put the mattress inside the tent, which worked fine. She can't get herself out yet, so that would be the only problem that I could forsee when she gets a little bigger and can unzip it, but by then hopefully she'll be in a big girl bed at home so it shouldn't be a problem. One of our trips was to Hawaii, which was very hot (no air conditioning at my Uncle's house), but it seemed to have fine ventilation and she was okay. We put a couple of towels under the crib sheet because she seemed more sweaty due to the air mattress being plastic, but that seemed to solve the problem just fine. I didn't ever have a problem folding it up...just make sure you read the instructions and it's really easy! My only wish is that it had the self inflating mattress that comes with a different pea pod, I like the feel of it better. But all in all we love this and I am hoping to get many more years of use out of it. I'm selling our big heavy pack 'n play now and will just be using this! I'm glad I found it!
