Baby Products Reviews of Kidco PeaPod Plus Indoor/Outdoor Travel Bed - RedCustomer Review: I love this tent. If only my son did, too. Summary: 5 Stars
This little tent is genius, I wish I'd used this instead of a pack n' play when my son - now 2 - was younger and couldn't complain about where he was sleeping.
It's light and compact for travel, it sets up in a flash (literally, you just toss the thing on the floor and it sets itself up like something out of Looney Toons), it's safe, it's attractive, and keeps out light and bugs. Brilliant.
If I HAD to complain about something, I'd say that for light/fussy sleepers like my kid, even the sound of zipping the tent would startle him awake. PLus, as someone else has mentioned: he CAN get out of the tent on his own, so you have to be extra careful about child-proofing whatever area your child is sleeping in, just in case he gets out in the wee hours of the morning and goes exploring.
UNfortunately for me, my kid refuses to sleep in it. Ah well. Still, we'll keep it set up in his room in the hopes that as he ages, he'll become less finicky.
Customer Review: plastic smell, didn't last very long Summary: 1 Stars
I have to say this item smelled awful of plastic when I took it out of the package. Talk about toxic off-gassing. But I needed this for a trip, so I let it air out for a week. Even after a week, it smelled of plastic. I think the smell is gone now, and I'm more comfortable using it for my child in a pinch. She loves it, and she is very hard to please, when it comes to bedding! And the ease of taking it with us - travels very well! I wish there was a more organic type of product out there that we could use.
Update - this travel bed didn't last very long. Sharp metal is now poking out of the tent. Warranty is only one year. This seems more of a recall type incident, but I guess it doesn't matter after the one year mark. My daughter ended up using it only 2 times. We've learned that we really don't need things like this cluttering up our house. There are simpler options than all of this synthetic stuff.
Customer Review: Awesome product but don't let them play on it!! Summary: 4 Stars
This is a GREAT item for traveling with "big kids". We just took a trip with our very particular 2.5 year old daughter. We were able to get her excited about the tent by setting it up ahead of time and talking about it leading up to our trip. Once we were in our hotel she instantly wanted us to set it up so she could put her baby to bed there. We didn't need the air mattress or sleeping bag (she didn't understand how to get into it). We just tossed in a couple of small blankets and used a folded up hotel blanket as a mattress... It gets very warm in the tent so she didn't really need blankets at all.
My only word of caution is to not let your child climb on the tent or play rough with it. The interior bars can get twisted making it impossible to break down. On the peapod website they have a little video on how to untwist the bars (thank god) but it's never 100% the same. Otherwise this is a great product!
Customer Review: Light weight and quick to assemble Summary: 4 Stars
I purchased the PeaPod Plus for our 9 month old daughter when we were traveling for a month. It took her a few nights to not freak out at being zipped inside the tent or scared when she woke up, but now she is fine with it. We opted for this one over the infant version as we have a larger-than-average kid and hope to keep using it well into the future.
The only problem we have had with it was that our daughter was able to roll the PeaPod over onto its side while she was inside it by kneeling and pushing on one side wall. Because of the rigid frame and inflatable matress, it doesn't collapse, so she was safe, we just needed to roll it back again and settle her doen.
The PeaPod is very light-weight and extremely easy to assemble and dismantle - much easier than a playyard. We now use it when visiting friends in the evening, since it can be set up anywhere in just a few minutes.
Customer Review: Travel tents are the way to go Summary: 4 Stars
This is our second travel tent from PeaPod as we had the smaller one before. We love it and have used it extensively. It is easy to set up (although putting it away takes some practice) and our baby who is now a toddler has used it since the age of 5 months and has loved it. A suggestion before traveling with it for the first time would be to have your baby nap in it a few days in a row at your home. We did this and it made the tent a familiar place when we traveled. The only negative thing about this tent is the nylon fabric on the outside of the pad/sleeping bag - it rubs on the nylon of the tent and is quite loud, especially when coupled with the noise of the air mattress. It actually woke our light-sleeper baby up several times before I sewed some fleece to the bottom to cut down on the noise. This worked well. If your baby is a sound sleeper, this would not be a problem.
