Baby Products Reviews of Kidco PeaPod Plus Indoor/Outdoor Travel Bed - RedCustomer Review: Good at Home, Too. Summary: 4 Stars
I've had a PeaPod Plus for several months, and we use it nearly every weekend without major issues. My son, now 16 months, took to it immediately. He likes to sleep in it so much that we leave it up all the time in the living room... when he's tired, he just crawls in and takes a nap. He also has fun playing in it with his toys. Even the dog likes it: he hides in there during storms. Like some other reviewers, I just put a crib sheet over the air mattress and put it inside. (Although the sheet size is different, the flocked texture of the air mattress keeps it from sliding.) As many others mentioned, the air pump is basically useless, but inflating it without one isn't a problem. I think the sleeping bag is terrible. The fabric is soooo polyester and not very soft. It feels as if it would be uncomfortable, especially in warmer weather, so we don't use that either. The bag that comes with it is big enough that you don't have to squeeze every bit of air out to cram it in, which is nice. The biggest issue I've had is with the zippers. They seem like regular zippers by day, but then at night with a sleeping baby, they become the LOUDEST thing ever.
With a nicer sleeping bag, functional pump, and stealth zippers, this thing would be perfect.
Customer Review: Pure Genius Summary: 5 Stars
We bought this travel bed right before the holidays because all of the porta cribs were taken at the house we rented and we had no extra space for the pack-n-play in our car. I set it up at home and let my daughter (22 mos.) play in it a few times before we left for Christmas. I put a few of her crib comforts in the tent the first night and laid down with her (my head in the tent) for a few minutes. I didn't zip her up the first night as she seemed a little nervous. She played for awhile and then went right to bed. The next night she asked to be zipped in and every night since then. We've set it up in bathrooms and closets and she loves it. She's never really loved her pack-n-play, but she loves this tent. Her cousins do too (3 and 5). It's kind of like a little fort. And it takes up about 1/8 of the space that a pack-n-play requires. Not to mention it pops into place in a second and it takes 2 minutes to blow up the mattress the old fashioned way (the pump that comes with it sucks). folding it down is a breeze too, just fold it and jam it in. I've never written a review of any product before, but I felt compelled. My husband and I agree it's the best toddler gear purchase we've made in a long time - love it!
Customer Review: Love it !! Summary: 5 Stars
Just got the peapod plus this week. Opened it up and it was instantly ready for use. I was nervous about folding it back up after reading some of the reviews. So my husband and I read the instructions carefully and followed the pictures (they must have changed the instructions b/c mine had written instructions and pictures that weren't miniscule-- unlike some complaints from other reviews). After one try, we were able to fold it up in less than 30 seconds (and we're not handy types). We were impressed. I let my 5 year old and 9 month old play in the tent for 2 days. Then the big test..... I put my 9 month old to nap in it as we are going away this weekend and wanted him to be familiar with the tent as his bed, and he loved it. He slept in it just like he does in his crib. But to make it more comfortable for him, I put the air mattress inside the tent (as opposed to bottom pouch) and put the sleeping bag that came with the tent on top of the mattress, and covered it all up with a crib sheet. The crib sheet stayed in place. I am very happy with this product. I don't write many reviews but thought this one deserved it. If this product lasts, it will be well worth the price.
Customer Review: WARNING- Make sure both parents read the folding directions! Summary: 5 Stars
We bought this for our baby so we didn't have to lug a huge playpen around for her to sleep when we were visiting family. Also a good thing: with airlines charging $$ for an extra bag, this beauty will help out with weight! Compact and light. And, no, the pump does work- it continuously blows out air. I've only used the travel bed for a long weekend getaway, and so far, so good! I aired out the tent for a week first and turned the sleeping bag inside out to use as a mat for my 4 month old to sleep on top. She was fine and happy and had no problems adjusting to the new bed. Yes, read the directions as to how to fold the tent and you should be fine. **UPDATE: MAKE SURE YOUR HUSBAND OR PARTNER READS THE DIRECTIONS ON HOW TO FOLD TENT BACK!!! I showed my husband once on how to fold down the tent, and while I was busy with the baby, he tried to fold the tent back and ended up RUINING the tent's frame!! Needless to say, I went for a full proof solution and bought a baby bjorn portable crib, costing me alot more $$$ than I wanted to spend! I would now give it 4 out of 5 stars as long as both parents learn the folding technique.
Customer Review: LOVE OUR PODS! Summary: 5 Stars
We bought two Peapod Plus travel beds in June (one red and one pink). We LOVE them. We were so tired of carting around two packnplays for our 12-month old twins. I put these in the twins' cribs for one week prior to using them for travel in order to acclimate them to sleeping in a different environment. My son fussed for the first two times, and my daughter loved her pod right away. They slept great in them. They quickly adjusted to using them on the floor, too.
I removed the sleeping bag to save for when they are older because it is very bulky, and I believe it could be a suffocation hazard for babies/toddlers. Right now, I put a crib sheet on the mattress (fits perfectly) and stick the mattress inside the tent rather than in the zippered mattress pocket. I found these very easy to fold ( I had to look at the directions the first few times) so I don't understand all the complaints. Great product!
***NOTE*** the pink version is very cute and pretty, but I wish that I had ordered two red/blue ones. The red/blue peapod is much darker inside and better for encouraging sleeping! ; )
