Sorry I'm not the type of person who has the time to go to the hardware store to get a piece of wood and cut it up. I have this for my banister and two other kits for my drywall. The biggest mistake I made was not buying when I purchased the gate. My son banged on the gate and ripped it right off causing a hole on are wall. Now it is much sturdier with this piece of wood, which you do end up buying longer drilling nails for it. That would probably be my only complaint about this kit.Customer Review: No holes in our wooden banister

We bought this to go along with our Kidco gate for the top of the stairs. We didn't want to make holes in the wood. While it is true that you could go to the store and purchase these items separately and figure out how to make them work, the convenience of this kit was more attractive to us. It worked very well and the gate is now installed and secure at the top of the stairs, while not ruining our wooden banister.Customer Review: Works great

I realize that this is just a piece of word and plastic ties but it does exactly what it says it does. We have a wrought iron railing and needed something that we could attach to the rail in order to mount our gate and this worked perfectly. It was really easy...I mounted it myself while my husband was at work. My husband and I got this thinking that we needed to mount our gate to the wall. after fiddling with it for some time, we gave up on mounting it and used the tension bars instead. the product is a little confusing to assemble and the gates, for the most part, do not need to be mounted to the wall to work well.Customer Review: Simple, but effective...

I used the installation kit so I wouldn't have to drill holes in my the post of my stair rail. You can buy everything that comes in the kit at your local hardware store, but if you don't feel like wasting the time to go shop for the different pieces, then the kit is an easy solution.
